  1. SEPTEMBER 2019 CLIMATE SUMMIT TO BE HELD IN NEW YORK: UN CHIEF
i. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced to hold a climate summit in September 2019 in New York to review the commitments of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
ii. Guterres appointed former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg as his Special Envoy for Climate Action who was tasked to support the United Nations (UN) in its climate strategy and in organising the 2019 summit.

  1. THE USA WITHDRAWS FROM IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL
i. President Donald Trump announced US withdrawal from the 2015 landmark nuclear deal with Iran.
ii.Mr Trump signed a fresh set of sanctions against Iran and warned countries against any cooperation with Tehran on its controversial nuclear weapons programme.
iii. The historic nuclear deal was reached in Vienna in July 2015 between Iran and the P5 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council) along with Germany and the European Union.

  1. WORLD CARTOONIST’S DAY – MAY 5
i. World Cartoonist’s Day is celebrated every year on 5th May 5 to honor all cartoonists.
ii. On 5th May 1895, the first colour cartoon “The Yellow Kid” that was created by Richard F Outcault was published.


  1. BEIJING TO HOLD WORLD ROBOT CONFERENCE 2018
i. More than 12,000 teams and 50,000 participants from over 10 countries and regions will participate in the conference.
ii. A robot competition will be conducted during the conference.
iii. This conference will enhance passion and innovation in the robot industry and help to improve research and development.

  1. INDIA FASTEST GROWING ECONOMY AT 7.4 PER CENT IN 2018: IMF
i.Indian economy is recovering from after effects of demonetisation in November 2016 and roll out of Goods and Services Tax in July 2017.
ii. IMF reiterated that medium-term prospects for Indian economy remains positive and growth rate is expected to rise to 7.8 per cent in 2019.
iii. Consumer Price Indexinflation is projected to be five per cent in 2018 and 2019.
