1.      INDIA-RUSSIA AGRICULTURE BUSINESS SUMMIT HELD IN NEW DELHI
i. India-Russia Agriculture Business Summit 2018 was held in New Delhi. The two countries discussed trade relations in the agricultural sector. The summit was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
ii. Gajender Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Sergey Beletskiy, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, Russia addressed the India-Russia Agriculture Business Summit.

2.      GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MAKES AMENDMENTS IN SMALL SAVINGS ACT
i. In order to remove existing ambiguities due to multiple Acts and rules for Small Saving Schemes, the Government of India has proposed merger of Government Savings Certificates Act, 1959 and Public Provident Fund Act, 1968 with the Government Savings Banks Act, 1873.
ii. With a single act, relevant provisions of the Government Savings Certificates Act, 1959 and the Public Provident Fund Act, 1968 would stand subsumed in the new amended Act without compromising on any of the functional provision of the existing Act.

3.      ALL VILLAGES TO BE LINKED BY ROADS BY 2019 UNDER ‘PRADHAN MANTRI GRAM SADAK YOJNA’
i. Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Ram Kripal Yadav has stated that Central Government is working towards connecting all villages through a road network by next year as part of the ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna’. Plan to link all villages by roads by 2019:
ii. ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna’ is a centrally sponsored scheme launched in December 2000.
iii. Ultimate goal of this scheme is to provide all-weather road connectivity to unconnected villages all over India.

4.      RADIO UMANG: INDIA'S 1ST ONLINE RADIO STATION LAUNCHED
i. India's 1st Online Radio Station 'Radio Umang' was launched recently in India. Listeners can tune in to this online radio station through web streaming or download the app.
ii. With 24 hours programming, it has found listeners in Hindi speaking regions of India and in over 60 countries worldwide.

5.      WEST BENGAL BECOMES FIRST STATE TO OPT OUT OF ‘MODICARE’
i. Claiming that the Bengal government had already enrolled 50 lakh people under its own Swasthya Sathi programme, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced the decision to opt out of Centre’s ‘Modicare’ scheme.
ii. This makes West Bengal the first state to withdraw from the ambitious programme. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced the NHPS on February 1, making it the biggest global plan to provide quality health cover to a population larger than the combined citizenry of the US, UK, Germany and France.

6.      DAC APPROVES PROPOSALS WORTH RS. 15,935 CR
i. The defence ministry of India approved capital acquisition proposals worth Rs.15,935 cr which included the purchase of 7.40 lakh assault rifles, 5,719 sniper rifles and light machine guns to bolster the strength of the armed forces.
ii. The long-pending proposals were cleared at a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council, the defence ministry's highest decision-making body on procurement. The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
iii. For the Indian Navy, the DAC also approved the procurement of Advanced Torpedo Decoy Systems  at a cost of Rs. 850 cr.

7.      RBI ROLLS OUT NEW STRESSED ASSETS FRAMEWORK TO TACKLE BAD LOAN PROBLEM
i. The Reserve Bank of India scrapped numerous loan restructuring programmes, asking banks to immediately identify defaults and make disclosures every Friday to the RBI credit registry, starting from February 23.
ii. The apex bank has also warned banks of monetary penalties and higher provisions if they are found to have violated the stringent new norms.

8.      RBI RELAXES PRIORITY SECTOR LENDING RULE FOR BANKS
i. Reserve Bank of India has made banks' priority sector norms lenient by saying that all loans to micro small and medium enterprises will henceforth qualify as priority sector lending. This was a long time demand from banks.
ii. Till date, loans up to Rs 10 cr per MSME borrower was considered for priority sector calculation. The sub-target for bank lending to the micro enterprises has been 7.50 percent of adjusted net bank credit or credit equivalent amount of off-balance sheet exposure, whichever is higher. Foreign banks will also have to follow 8% sub-target for lending to the small and marginal farmers.

9.      BANK OF BARODA TO EXIT SOUTH AFRICA BY MARCH-END
i. State-owned Bank of Baroda has decided to exit by March-end its South Africa operations after 21 years amid a probe into alleged compliance lapses by the bank there.
ii. The bank stated that it is exiting operations in South Africa as part of its strategic plan for rationalisation of overseas branches.

10.  CHANDRASHEKHARA KAMBARA ELECTED NEW PRESIDENT OF SAHITYA AKADEMI
i. Kannada litterateur Chandrashekar Kambar has been elected as president of the Sahitya Akademi in the election held for the post. He has replaced Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari. Hindi poet Madhav Koushik has been elected as vice-president.
ii. This is the second time election was held in the history of Sahitya Akademi, after Ananthamurthy’s election to the post.

11.  WORLD RADIO DAY- 13 FEBRUARY
i. World Radio Day is observed annually on 13 February.
ii. The theme for WRD 2018 is "Radio and Sports". The Day is organised globally by the UNESCO.

1.      R.K. SINGH INAUGURATES INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ‘INDIAN POWER STATIONS 2018’ IN NEW DELHI
i. Union Minister of State (I/C) for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shri R.K. Singh inaugurated the ‘Indian Power Stations 2018’ in New Delhi. It is the 3-day International Conference on Operations and Maintenance.
ii. The Minister exhorted the NTPC to become India’s power sector multinational by setting up power plants in other Nations and become world’s largest power producer.

2.      FIRST INTERNATIONAL SOLAR ALLIANCE SUMMIT TO BE HELD IN NEW DELHI
i. India is to host the first International Solar Alliance Summit on 11th March 2018, in Delhi. French President Emanuel Macron will participate in the First International Solar Alliance Summit.
ii. Leaders of African countries, Presidents of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, leaders of South American countries and Pacific Islands are expected to attend the summit.
iii. Heads of World Bank, Asian Development Bank, BRICS Bank and European Investment Bank are also expected to participate in the summit. The International Solar Alliance is a treaty based inter-governmental alliance. It comprises of 121 solar energy abundant nations located between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn.
iv. The aim of ISA is to make solar energy affordable, develop solar grids and solar credit mechanism.

1.      NITIN GADKARI RELEASES INDIA’S 1ST EVER HIGHWAY CAPACITY MANUAL
i. The Minister of Road Transport & Highways Mr Nitin Gadkari released India’s first ever Highway Capacity Manual in New Delhi.
ii. The manual is also known as Indo-HCM and it has been developed by CSIR – CRRI on the basis of an extensive, country-wide study of the traffic characteristics on different categories of roads like a single lane, two-lane, multi-lane urban roads, and the associated intersections on these roads.

2.      RAJNATH SINGH INAUGURATES FIRST OF ITS KIND SPOKEN SANSKRIT CENTRE
i. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has launched the Centre for learning Sanskrit language in Gujarat University, Ahmedabad.
ii. The centre will offer a six-month course for people on how to speak the language. The coordinator of the course, Atul Unagar stated it was possibly the first such course launched in India.

1.      PM MODI 3 NATION VISIT- INDIA, OMAN SIGN 8 MOUS
i. India and Oman have signed eight MoUs in different areas during PM Narendra Modi’s maiden visit to the Gulf nation. The fields in which the agreements were inked include defence, health and tourism.
ii. An MoU on legal and judicial co-operation in civil and commercial matters was also signed. The agreements were inked after Mr Modi held delegation-level talks with the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said al Said in Muscat.

2.      GOVERNMENT APPROVES CONSTRUCTION OF OVER 1.86 LAKH MORE HOUSES UNDER PMAY-URBAN
i. Central Government announced that it has approved the construction of over 1.86 lakh more houses for urban poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) scheme. With this approval, total number of affordable houses sanctioned under this scheme has reached 39.25 lakhs.
ii. Construction of these 1.86 lakh affordable houses entails a total investment of Rs 11169 cr, in which, Rs 2797 cr will come as central assistance.
iii. In this latest round of approval, Haryana has been sanctioned the maximum number of houses (53290 houses). Haryana is followed by Tamil Nadu (40623 houses) and Karnataka (32656 houses).

1.      NATIONAL MEET ON GRASSROOT INFORMATICS- VIVID 2018
i. National Informatics Centre has organized a 3-day National Meet on Grassroot Informatics- VIVID 2018 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The Theme for VIVID 2018 is “Cyber Security and Innovation”.
ii. The 3-day event was inaugurated by Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice.

2.      NITI AAYOG RELEASES NATION-WIDE HEALTHY STATE REPORT
i. NITI Aayog has released the ‘Healthy States, Progressive India Report’. Kerala, Punjab and Tamil Nadu have ranked top among the larger states in terms of overall performance. The report was released by NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.
ii. Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh are at the top in the terms of annual incremental performance. States and Union territories have been ranked in three categories namely larger states, smaller states and Union territories.
iii. Among smaller states, Mizoram ranked first followed by Manipur and Goa in terms of annual incremental performance. Among Union territories, Lakshadweep showed best, overall performance as well as highest annual incremental performance.

1.      DEFENCE MINISTRY APPOINTS PANEL TO EXPEDITE CAPITAL ACQUISITION FOR ARMED FORCES MODERNISATION
i. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has constituted a 13-member advisory committee to monitor and expedite capital acquisition projects for the modernisation of the armed forces. The committee will be headed by Vinay Sheel Oberoi, former secretary in the government.
ii. Under the terms of reference of the committee, the Ministry has to undertake an independent review and check the status of ongoing critical projects worth more than Rs 500 cr.

2.      PM MODI 3 NATION VISIT- LEAVES FOR PALESTINE
i. PM Narendra Modi left for his 3-nation visit to Palestine, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
ii. This is the first ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Palestine, and PM Modi's second visit to UAE and first to Oman.
iii. PM would be addressing the 6th World Government Summit being held in Dubai, UAE at which India has been extended 'Guest of Honour' status.

3.      INDIA RANKS 44TH IN GLOBAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY INDEX, US TOPS
i. India has increased “substantially” its score in the International Intellectual Property Index, ranking 44th among 50 nations, according to the US Chambers of Commerce report. Last year, India ranked 43rd out of 45 countries in the Index.
ii. The top 3 countries on the list are- The USA, The United Kingdom and Sweden.
iii. India’s overall score has increased substantially from 25% in the 5th edition of the Index to 30% in the 6th edition, according to the annual report prepared by the Global Innovation Policy Centre of the US Chambers of Commerce.

8. Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2017 to replace the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Ordinance, 2017.
9. Implementation of ‘Prime Minister Research Fellows’.
10. Rationalization of Autonomous Bodies under Department of Health & Family Welfare.

1.      PRESIDENT RAM NATH KOVIND INAUGURATES MAHAMASTAKABHISHEKA UTSAV
i. The President of India Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the 88th Mahamastakabhisheka Utsav of Lord Gomateshwara in Hassan district of Karnataka.
ii. Mahamastakabhisheka of Gommateshwara, who is also known as Bahubali takes place once in 12 years. It is an important Jain pilgrimage centre and lakhs of tourists visit Shravanbelagola to see 57 feet tall monolithic stone statue.

2.      FIRST-EVER PELICAN FESTIVAL HELD AT ATAPAKA BIRD SANCTUARY IN ANDHRA PRADESH
i. The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to hold the first-of-its-kind, one-day Pelican Festival at the Atapaka Bird Sanctuary on Kolleru.
ii. Kolleru is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the country. Atapaka village is located on the borders of the Krishna and the West Godavari districts.

i. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has left for her first official visit to Saudi Arabia. During the three-day visit, Mrs Swaraj will meet with the Saudi leadership to discuss bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.
ii. She will also participate in the inauguration of the prestigious National Heritage and Culture Festival ‘Janadriyah’. India is the guest of honour country at the fest.
