1.      NATIONAL MEET ON GRASSROOT INFORMATICS- VIVID 2018
i. National Informatics Centre has organized a 3-day National Meet on Grassroot Informatics- VIVID 2018 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The Theme for VIVID 2018 is “Cyber Security and Innovation”.
ii. The 3-day event was inaugurated by Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice.

2.      NITI AAYOG RELEASES NATION-WIDE HEALTHY STATE REPORT
i. NITI Aayog has released the ‘Healthy States, Progressive India Report’. Kerala, Punjab and Tamil Nadu have ranked top among the larger states in terms of overall performance. The report was released by NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.
ii. Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh are at the top in the terms of annual incremental performance. States and Union territories have been ranked in three categories namely larger states, smaller states and Union territories.
iii. Among smaller states, Mizoram ranked first followed by Manipur and Goa in terms of annual incremental performance. Among Union territories, Lakshadweep showed best, overall performance as well as highest annual incremental performance.


3.      PM MODI 3 NATION VISIT- MODI CONFERRED 'GRAND COLLAR OF THE STATE OF PALESTINE'
i. PM Narendra Modi was conferred the 'Grand Collar of the State of Palestine' by President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, recognising his key contribution to promote relations between India and Palestine.
ii. President Abbas conferred the honour after the conclusion of the bilateral meeting between the two leaders. Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to make an official visit to Palestine.

4.      INDIA RETAINS TOP SPOT AS SOURCE MARKET FOR DUBAI IN 2017
i. Dubai witnessed 15% growth in tourist arrivals from India in 2017, hosting 2.1 million visitors, retaining top spot as the source market.
ii. It also became the first country to cross the 2 million mark in a single year, according to the latest data published by Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism).

5.      NPCI APPOINTS BISWAMOHAN MAHAPATRA AS NON-EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN
i. National Payments Corporation of India appointed Biswamohan Mahapatra as non-executive chairman for two years with immediate effect.
ii. He succeeds B Sambamurthy who was the interim chairman.

6.      PLASTINDIA 2018: INTERNATIONAL PLASTICS EXHIBITION HELD IN GANDHINAGAR
i. 10th edition of international plastics exhibition, started in Gandhinagar, Gujarat for 6 days from 7th February 2018 to 12th February 2018. It was inaugurated by Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani. It is organized by Plastindia Foundation.
ii. It has participation from buyers and sellers from nearly 28 countries. New products and technologies are displayed by national and international sellers.
iii. Plastindia 2018 hosts 3 special exhibitions: Proplast – for processed plastics products, Recycling Pavillion – for recycling products and Plasticulture – display of plasticulture. Also a conference will be conducted that will have participation from national and international speakers.

7.      WINTER OLYMPIC GAMES STARTS IN PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA
i. The 23rd Olympic Winter Games officially kicked off with a colourful ceremony at Pyeongchang in South Korea.
ii. Ninety-two countries are participating in the event. There will be 102 medals up for grabs in Pyeongchang, covering seven sports and 15 disciplines. The ceremony was directed by Song Seung-whan, a South Korean actor.

8.      PON. RADHAKRISHNAN INAUGURATES THIRD GLOBAL PROCUREMENT SUMMIT IN NEW DELHI
i. Union Minister of State for Finance & Shipping, Pon Radhakrishnan inaugurated the 2-day Third Global Procurement Summit in New Delhi.
ii. This Summit was organized by Government of India, All India Management Association and World Bank. Theme of Third Global Procurement Summit was ‘New Frontiers faced in the Transformation process of Procurement Today’.
iii. During the course of this 2-day Summit, various sessions focusing on key facets of strategic sourcing, application of digital technologies in procurement, prevention of contractual disputes and project delays and the latest global innovations in public procurement were conducted. The Summit was attended by more than 200 procurement officials from all over the world.

9.      NOTED LITTERATEUR CHANDRASEKHAR RATH PASSES AWAY
i. Eminent litterateur Chandrasekhar Rath passed away at the age of 89. He died of old age ailments. He was recently nominated for Padma Shri by the Union government this year for his contribution towards Odia literature.
ii. His three novels, Yantrarudha (The Instrumented) 1967, Asurya Upanivesh (The Sunless Colony) 1974 and Nav Jatak (Regenesis) 1981, have given him a special place in Odia literature. He has also received literary awards like Sahitya Akademi Award and Sarala Award.
