1. INDIA 4TH BIGGEST MILITARY SPENDER IN 2018: SIPRI REPORT
India was the world’s fourth biggest military spender in 2018 behind the United States, China, and Saudi Arabia, according to new data think tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. India was the fifth largest military spender in 2017.
According to the SIPRI data, China was the second-largest military spender in 2018. India accounts for 3.7% of the global defence spending.

1. DEFENCE MINISTRY SET TO HAVE THREE NEW TRI-SERVICE AGENCIES
Ministry of Defence is expecting to raise a Defence Cyber Agency by May to tackle non-civilian cyber issues arise from China and pakistan, including safeguarding critical infrastructure. Rear Admiral Mohit Gupta, Senior Navy officer will be the first head of this agency, headquartered in New Delhi.
As per the clearance given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi  in 2018, two more agencies are under construction namely, Defence Space Agency and Special Operations Division.
Aware of cyber power is a risky element of India’s comprehensive deterrence capability, the base has set up a task force headed by Lt. Gen. Davinder Kumar (Retired) to suggest a road map for cyber deterrence in the armed forces.

1. BAJRANG PUNIA BECAME FIRST INDIAN WRESTLER TO FIGHT AT NEW YORK’S ICONIC MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
25 year old Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia became the first Indian wrestler to fight at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden. He won the gold medal at the 65kg men’s freestyle wrestling at the recent Asian Championships.
He is the first Indian wrestler to be invited by the American governing body and will take part in the “Grapple at the Garden — Beat the Streets” fight night, which will be held on 6th May 2019.
He also won eight gold medals from his previous nine international tournaments including last year’s Commonwealth and Asian Games and presently holds World No.1 title in the 65-kg weight category.

2. GIA CONFERS GAGANJEET BHULLAR FOR ‘OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AS A PLAYER 2019’
Indian Professional Golfer, Gaganjeet Bhullar has been awarded outstanding achievement as a player award at the 4th Edition of the annual India Golf Industry Association award for the year 2019.

1. CHINA HOSTED 2ND BELT AND ROAD FORUM IN BEIJING
The second edition of Belt and Road Forum (BRF) was held in Beijing, China from April 25th to April 27th, 2019 in which 37 heads-of-state had participated along with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and International Monetary Chief (IMF) Christine Lagarde. The theme of this event was “Belt and Road Cooperation: Shaping a Brighter Shared Future”.
2nd Belt and Road Forumi.The Belt and Road Forum is a part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The idea of BRI was first proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013.

2. SC GAVE ULTIMATUM TO RBI TO DISCLOSE INFORMATION UNDER RTI ACT
Recently, Supreme Court bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao has directed the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to disclose information related to its annual inspection report of banks under the Right to Information (RTI) Act until and unless they are exempted under law. The bench has also directed the RBI to review its policy to disclose information relating to banks under RTI.
i. The bench was hearing a contempt petition filed by RTI activists Subhash Chandra Agarwal and Girish Mittal against the Reserve Bank of India.
ii. According to the petitioners, they had asked copies of RBI’s inspection reports of ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, and SBI between April 2011 and December 2015 but the central bank rejected to provide this information by stating that it is exempted under section 8(1)(e) of the RTI Act and section 45NB of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.
