1.INDIAN NAVY CONDUCTS PASSEX WITH UK NAVY

      Indian Navy (IN) participated in a Bilateral Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with United Kingdom’s (UK) Royal Navy in Bay of Bengal. 

      The Maritime Exercise aimed at sharpening the ability of two navies to operate together in the maritime domain.

 

2.SC QUASHES PROVISIONS OF 97TH AMENDMENT

      A 3-judge Supreme Court (SC) bench comprising Justices R F Nariman, K M Joseph and B R Gavai struck down certain parts of Part IXB of the Indian Constitution.

      Part IXB was inserted by the Constitution (97th Amendment) Act, 2011, it deals with incorporation, terms of members of board and its office bearers and effective management of cooperative societies.

      The SC Judgement however held that Part IXB of the Indian Constitution dealing with functioning and incorporation of multi-state co-operative societies will be operative.

      The 97th Constitutional Amendment required ratification by at least one-half of the state legislatures as per Article 368(2) of the Constitution, as it deals with an exclusive state subject (co-operative societies).

 

3.G20 ENVIRONMENT MINISTERIAL MEETING

      G20 (Group of Twenty) Environment Ministers’ Meeting 2021 was held in hybrid format which was hosted by Italy (2021 G20 Presidency) in Naples.

      In the meeting, India participated virtually and was represented by Union Minister, Bhupender Yadav, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).

 

4.‘AGRITECH CHALLENGE 2021’

      United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), under the Centre for Financial Health in partnership with Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, the Government of India); Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Rabo Foundation; International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Bayer launched Agritech Challenge 2021 to address the challenges faced by the smallholder farmers in Asia and Africa.

1.RFP FOR CONSTRUCTION OF 6 P-75 (I) SUBMARINES

      The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has issued a Request of Proposal (RFP) for construction of 6 AIP (Air Independent Propulsion) fitted Conventional Submarines named Project 75 (India) [P-75(I)] for the Indian Navy.

      The estimated cost of the project is over INR 40,000 Crore.

      The Foreign OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) will be the technology partner in the SP Model.

 

2.WORLD UNIVERSITIES SUMMIT 2021

      The Vice President Venkaiah Naidu virtually addressed the World Universities Summit 2021 (WUS 21) organised by O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana.

      Theme – “Universities of the Future: Building Institutional Resilience, Social Responsibility and Community Impact”.

 

3.NSE FOUNDATION LAUNCHES PROJECT CAVACH

      NSE Foundation in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and NITI Aayog launched a COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign – Project CAVACH (COVID-19 and Vaccination Assistance Campaign for Health) in 5 Aspirational districts of India.

      5-districts: ‘Nandurbar’, ‘Osmanabad’ in Maharashtra, ‘Karauli’ in Rajasthan, ‘Ramanathapuram’ in Tamil Nadu and ‘Kiphire’ in Nagaland.

      NSE Foundation is the subsidiary company of National Stock Exchange (NSE), and is responsible for conducting all its Corporate Social Responsible (CSR) activities.

 

4.UN 4TH GLOBAL SURVEY ON TRADE FACILITATION 2021

      India’s efforts in streamlining the assessment and clearance of shipments to ease and boost cross-border trade have fetched fruitful results as India’s Trade facilitation score has increased to 90.32% from 78.49% in 2019 in the United Nations (UN) 4th Global Survey on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation 2021.

 

5.MEKONG-GANGA COOPERATION (MGC) MEETING

      Union Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India and PrakSokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia virtually co-chaired the 11th Mekong-Ganga Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (11th MGC FMM) meeting.

      The MGC initiative comprising six countries India, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam was launched in 2000 to boost cooperation in four areas of connectivity, tourism, education and culture.

1.INDIA’S 1ST GREEN HYDROGEN PLANT

      Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is set to build India’s 1st ‘Green Hydrogen’ plant at Mathura refinery, Uttar Pradesh (UP).

      Through this, it aims to cater to the growing demand for cleaner forms of energy.

      It will be India’s 1st Green Hydrogen Unit.

      Previous projects have been announced to produce ‘green hydrogen’ using fossil fuels such as natural gas.

 

2.INDO-NEPAL TRIAL MOVEMENT OF 1ST TRAIN

      First rail section between India and Nepal i.e. Jaynagar – Kurtha Railway link saw the successful trial movement of high-speed train between India’s Jaynagar Madhubani district of Bihar and Nepal’s Kurtha in Mahottari district.

      It has been set up by IRCON (Indian Railway Construction Limited) under India – Nepal friendship rail project and is financed by the Indian government.

 

3.IMPLEMENTATION OF BLOCKCHAIN-POWERED EDUCATIONAL DOCUMENTS

      The government of Maharashtra, with the help of LegitDoc, a block chain startup, plans to implement the world’s largest block chain-powered educational credentialing system by issuing tamper-proof digital diploma certificates under the block chain system.

      Through such initiative, the Govt of Maharashtra became the 1st state in India to implement a block chain-based educational document registry, and around the globe, India (Maharashtra Government) became the 4th country to achieve such registry after Malta, Singapore, and Bahrain.

 

4.‘INDIAN INSTITUTE OF HERITAGE’

      The Central Government has decided to set up a world class Indian Institute of Heritage at Noida, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Uttar Pradesh) to focus on conservation and research in India’s tangible heritage.

      It was informed by Union Minister Gangapuram Kishan Reddy, Ministry of culture in a written reply in the LokSabha.

      This will be a standalone institution of its type in India.

 

5.1ST IN INDIA TO MAKE PAYMENTS FROM FD A/C

      Paytm enabled its Paytm Payments Bank‘s (PPB) customers to make instant payments across online platforms through its all-in-one payment gateway using balances available in their Fixed Deposit (FD) account, which is held with IndusInd Bank, the partner bank of Paytm.

      PPB enables its customers to open FD accounts with Indus Ind Bank and it also allows its customers to redeem the FD from Indus Ind Bank into a PPB account in real-time.

 

6.DRDO DEVELOPS INDIGENOUS TITANIUM ALLOY

      Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), a lab of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed an Indigenous High Strength Metastable Beta Titanium Alloy.

      It will be useful in manufacturing intricate components for aerospace applications.

      The beta titanium alloy has higher strength, ductility, fatigue, and fracture toughness – making them increasingly attractive for aircraft structural applications.

 

7.BANK NATIONALISATION DAY 2021 – JULY 19

      The Bank Nationalisation Day is annually observed across India on 19th July to commemorates the issuance of the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Ordinance, 1969 on 19th July 1969, that nationalised 14 major banks in India with a deposit of more than Rs 50 crores each.

      19th July 2021 marks the 52nd Anniversary of Bank Nationalisation.

      The government led by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi issued the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Ordinance, 1969 on 19th July 1969 to nationalise the 14 major banks which accounted for 85% of bank deposits in India, at that time.

 

8.NOMENCLATURE COMMON HIGH COURT OF J&K

      In accordance with the Department of Justice in the Ministry of Law and Justice (MoL&J), the nomenclature ‘Common High Court of UT of Jammu and Kashmir and UT of Ladakh’ substituted with ‘High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh’.

      The HC is located in Srinagar.

      This change has been done after the signing of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Removal of Difficulties) Order, 2021 by the President of India, Ram NathKovind.

 

9.1ST INDIAN COURT TO ALLOW PUBLIC VIEWING OF PROCEEDINGS

      The High Court (HC) of Gujarat became the first court of India to formally start live streaming of proceedings on its YouTube channel to ensure transparency and openness in the Indian judiciary.

      It was launched on the eve of the 101st birth anniversary of Late Former CJI (16th) Y.V. Chandrachud by the Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana.

      The CJI, who was the chief guest of online inaugural function, also released the Gujarat High Court (Live Streaming of Court Proceedings) Rules, 2021.

 

10.ARIEL HENRY APPOINTED AS THE PRIME MINISTER OF HAITI

      Ariel Henry a member of the political party Inite, was appointed as the new Prime Minister(PM) of Haiti.

      He took over the charge from the incumbent PM Claude Joseph.

      He was sworn in as the new PM at the ceremony held in the Port-Au-Prince, capital of Haiti.

 

11.RUSSIA SUCCESSFULLY TESTS S-500 AIR DEFENCE MISSILE SYSTEM

      Russia successfully test-fired its new S-500 Air Defence Missile Systems in a Kapustin Yar Training ground, Russia.

      The missile, considered as the most advanced anti-missile system, successfully hit a high-speed ballistic target.

      S-400 Triumf is a Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile Defence System.

      It is an interceptor-based missile system which can destroy incoming hostile aircraft, missiles, and drones at ranges of up to 600 kms.

      It is manufactured by Almaz-Antey (Russian State-owned company).

 

12.BDL FLAGS OFF 1ST MRSAM MISSILE FOR DELIVERY TO IAF

      Bharat Dynamic Ltd (BDL) officially started the delivery of the 1st Missile of the 1st Firing unit of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) for delivery to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

      It was flagged off by MSR Prasad, Director General (Missiles & Strategic Systems) of BDL.

      It has been jointly developed by Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) & Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

      MRSAM is manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL).

 

13.WORLD’S FASTEST GROUND VEHICLE

      China has unveiled a new Maglev transportation system, which is capable of achieving a maximum speed of 600 kph or 372 mph, in Qingdao, the coastal city in Shandong province of China.

      The Maglev train developed by China and manufactured in Qingdao is reported to be the world’s fastest ground vehicle available.

      This is China’s latest scientific and technological achievement in the field of rail transit.

 

14.‘NEW SHEPARD’ COMPLETES 1ST HUMAN PASSENGER FLIGHT

      ‘New Shepard’ Rocket System built by Blue Origin (a Company owned by Amazon’s Founder, Jeff Bezos) successfully completed its 1st human spaceflight with 4 people on board. 

      It was launched from a private launch site near Van Horn, Texas.

      The 4 members in the spaceflight were Jeff Bezos, Mark Bezos, Wally Funk (82 years, oldest to ever fly in space) & Oliver Daemen (18 years, youngest ever to fly in space).

      July 20 marks the 52nd anniversary of Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin’s moon landing (on Apollo 11).

 

15.SPACE EXPLORATION DAY 2021

      Space Exploration Day also known as Moon Day is annually observed across the globe on 20th July marks the anniversary of America’s Apollo 11, the first manned mission to land on the Moon.

      The day aims to encourage people to learn about space exploration and to inspire the youths to consider space science and space exploration as careers.

 

16.‘ONE BLOCK, ONE PRODUCT’ SCHEME OF HARYANA

      The State Government of Haryana is all set to launch the ‘One Block, One Product’ scheme to encourage and promote small industries in the rural areas.

      It was announced by the state’s Deputy Chief Minister (CM) Dushyant Chautala.

      It will be introduced in 137 blocks of the state under which every block will be connected with some industry.

      The arrangements for common services, lab testing, packaging, transportation, accountancy will be set up in the cluster itself.

1. INDIA’S FIRST POD TAXI

      India’s 1st Pod taxi service to be launched in Uttar Pradesh (UP) between the upcoming ‘Noida International Airport’(NIA) (Jewar airport) and the proposed ‘Film city’ in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

      ‘Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority’ (YEIDA) has reported about the final Detailed Project Report (DPR) about the Project.

      Zurich Airport International AG, the Swiss company, signed a shareholder agreement with Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) for the development of the NIA in Jewar, UP.

 

2. UTTARAKHAND CELEBRATES SHRAVANHARELAFESTIVAL

      Shravan Harela festival 202, an important folk festival celebrated across the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand on 16th July which marks the beginning of the monsoon.

      The word Harela means “Green Leaves”.

      The Harela festival also commemorates the wedding of Hindu Gods Shiva and Parvathi.

 

3. CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2021

      The 74th Cannes Film Festival 2021 was held from July 6-17, 2021 at Palais des Festivals et des Congrès Convention Center in Cannes, France.

      ‘Night of Knowing Nothing’ directed by India’s Payal Kapadia won the Oeild’or (Golden Eye) award for best documentary at the Film Festival.

      Former Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the virtual ‘India Pavilion’ during the 74th Cannes Film Festival.

 

4. RUSSIA TEST FIRES ZIRCON HYPERSONIC CRUISE MISSILE

      Russia successfully test-fired the Zircon (also known as Tsirkon) Hypersonic Cruise Missile from Russian Navy’s Admiral Gorshkov warship in White Sea.

      The missile successfully hit a target situated more than 350 Kms (217 miles) away.

      Zircon meaning ‘Invincible’ is a winged, anti-ship hypersonic cruise missile.

      During the testing, the missile reached speeds of up to Mach 7.

      The ‘monk fruit’ which is native to China was introduced for field trials in Himachal Pradesh (HP) by Palampur-based Council of Scientific Research and Industrial Technology-Institute of Himalayan Bio resource Technology (CSIR-IHBT) in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.

      It is the 1st ever monk fruit cultivation exercise in India.

      Monk Fruit is known for its properties as a non-caloric natural sweetener.

 

3. 23MN CHILDREN MISSED ROUTINE VACCINATIONS IN 2020

      In accordance with the official data published by WHO (World Health Organization) and UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) namely ‘WHO/UNICEF estimates of national immunization coverage (WUENIC)’ on comprehensive worldwide childhood immunization figures’ 23 million children missed out on basic vaccines through routine immunization services in 2020.

      India topped the countries with the greatest increase, missing diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis combined vaccine (DTP-1)

 

4. EU PROPOSES WORLD’S 1ST CARBON BORDER TAX

      European Commission (EC), the executive branch of European Union (EU) proposed plans to impose World’s 1st ‘Carbon Border Tax’ from 2026 on imports of carbon-intensive goods, including steel, cement, fertilisers and aluminium as part of a programme to meet its new climate target (Reducing emissions by 55% from 1990 levels by 2030).

 

5. QUAD GROUP FOR AFGHAN PEACE PROCESS

      In accordance with the United States (US) State Department notification, the US, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan are all set to create a new quadrilateral diplomatic group to promote the Afghan peace process, stability and trade in the region.

1.PM NARENDRA MODI’S VISIT TO VARANASI

      PM Narendra Modi paid a one-day visit to his constituency Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

      He laid Foundation stones for several projects and public works worth INR 839 crores.

      It includes Centre for Skill and Technical Support of Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology (CIPET), 143 rural projects under Jal Jeevan Mission and Mango and vegetable integrated pack house in Karkhiyaon.

      ‘Rudrakash’ – an International Cooperation and Convention Centre was also inaugurated by PM Modi.

      The centre has been built with financial assistance from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at a cost ~ INR 200 crores.

 

2.INDIA, SRI LANKA & MALDIVES CONDUCT TTX-2021

      Defence Officials from India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives participated in a virtual Trilateral Table top Exercise 2021 (TTX-2021) on Maritime Security. TTX-2021 was organized by Maritime Warfare Centre, Mumbai from July 14-15, 2021.

      India is holding discussions with countries in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) as per its ‘Neighbourhood First’ and ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)’ policies.

 

3.CAMPAIGN ‘COVID TEEKA SANG SURAKSHIT VAN, DHANAURUDDYAM’

      ArjunMunda, the Tribal Affairs Minister, virtually launched the nationwide campaign named ‘COVID Teeka Sang Surakshit Van, DhanaurUddyam’ to increase the speed of COVID-19 vaccination among the tribal people in India.

      The campaign would be implemented by the ‘Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India’ (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for 10.5 crore tribal community people across India.

 

4.‘SAMVEDAN 2021’

      IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation (IITM-PTF) in partnership with Sony India Software Centre Pvt. Ltd is set to conduct a National Hackathon called ‘SAMVEDAN 2021 – Sensing Solutions for Bharat’.

      It aims to inspire Indian citizens to solve India-specific problems of societal interest using the IoT Sensor Board.

      Haryana’s Minister for Food & Civil Supplies Department & Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala stated that India’s 1st Grain ATM called ‘Automated, Multi Commodity, Grain Dispensing Machine’ has been installed in Farrukhnagar, Gurugram district, Haryana.

 

2. ANNUAL ASHA BONALU FESTIVAL COMMENCED

      The state of Telangana commenced its annual month-long state festival ‘Asha Bonalu’ festival on July 11, 2021 at its Golconda Fort in Hyderabad.

 

3. RBI RESTRICTED MASTERCARD

      Reserve Bank of India (RBI) restricted Mastercard Asia/Pacific Pte. Ltd. (Mastercard), the payment system operators from on-boarding new domestic customers (debit, credit or prepaid) onto their card networks from July 22, 2021, due to the non-compliance with the directions on Storage of Payment System Data.

      The restriction was imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under Section 17 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (PSS Act)

 

4. RBI CANCELS LICENSE OF DR SHIVAJIRAO PATIL NILANGEKAR UCB

      RBI has cancelled the license of Dr Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar Urban Co-operative Bank Limited in Nilanga, Latur district of Maharashtra with effect from the close of business on 14th July 2021.

      Under Section 5(b) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, following the cancellation of the license, the bank is prohibited to conduct the business of ‘banking’ including the acceptance and repayment of deposits, with immediate effect.

 

5. ISRO CONDUCTS TEST OF VIKAS ENGINE

      ISRO successfully conducted the 3rd Long duration Hot test of the Liquid propellant Vikas Engine for the core L110 liquid stage of human rated GSLV MkIII vehicle, as part of the engine qualification requirement for the Gaganyaan Programme (India’s 1st Human Space flight programme).

      The INR 10, 000 Crore Gaganyaan Mission aims to send a 3-member crew to space for a period of 5-7 days by 2022-23 when India completes 75 years of Independence. 

      GSLV Mk III is set to be used for the mission.

 

6. HARYANA POSTPONES ‘2021-KHELO INDIA YOUTH GAMES’

      Haryana State government which is set to host the 4th edition of Khelo India Youth Games in November 2021, has postponed the event to February 2022.

      This comes after reviewing the situation of possible 3rd wave of COVID-19 in India, by the Organising-cum-Coordination Committee chaired by Haryana Chief Minister – Manohar Lal Khattar.

      The event is planned to be held in 5 cities – 3 in Haryana (Panchkula, Shahbad, Ambala) & 2 Union Territories (Delhi & Chandigarh).

      A total of 25 Sporting events, including 5 indigenous games (Yoga, Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Thang-Ta and Mallakhamb) will be conducted for Under18 age groupMascot for 2021 – ‘Dhakad’

1.INDIA’S SINGLE LARGEST SOLAR PARK

      NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL), a 100% subsidiary of NTPC (formerly known as National Thermal Power Corporation Limited), has received an approval from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to set up India’s single largest Solar Park, 4750 MW (megawatt) renewable energy park at Rann of Kutch in Khavada, Gujarat.

      This approval has been provided under Mode 8 (Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park) of Solar Park Scheme.

 

2. NCRTC IMPLEMENTS IDREAMS SYSTEM

      The National Capital Regional Transport Corporation (NCRTC) announced plans to implement “Integrated Real-time Enterprise Asset Management System (iDREAMS)” in Indian Railways to digitally manage all rail assets.

      iDREAMS provides digital solutions for cost effective measures in asset management.

      his will remove the shortcomings in data handling thereby providing hassle-free travel experience for customers.

 

3. BKS LITERARY AWARD FOR 2021

      Malayalam Journalist, playwright, novelist and poet Omchery N N Pillai have been honoured with the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS)’s Literary Award for 2021 for his contribution to the Malayalam language and literature.

      NN Pillai hails from Vaikom, Kottayam, Kerala.

      The award constitutes a cash prize of Rs 50000 and a citation.

 

4. SHER BAHADUR DEUBA SWORN IN AS NEPAL’S PM

      Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of Nepali Congress, sworn in as the Prime Minister(PM) of Nepal for the 5th time.

      He took over the office from the incumbent KP Sharma Oli.

      Bidya Devi Bhandari, President of Nepal administered the oath of office and secrecy during the swearing-in ceremony.

 

5. WORLD’S 1ST COMMERCIAL SMR: LINGLONG ONE

      The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has announced the official beginning of the construction of the world’s 1st commercial Small Modular Reactor (SMR) named ‘Linglong One’ at the Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant in China’s Hainan Province.

6. FASTEST CRICKETER TO SCORE 14 ODI CENTURIES

      Captain of Pakistan Cricket team, Babar Azam became the fastest batsman to score 14 centuries in the history of One Day International (ODI) cricket.

      He attained this feat on his 81st innings during the ongoing Pakistan vs England ODI series, thereby overtaking South Africa’s Hashim Amla (84 innings) who previously held the record.

      While Indian Captain Virat Kohli took 103 innings to reach his 14th century.

 

7. BOOK – ‘UNTOLD STORIES’ OF HARYANA POLICE

      Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister of Haryana unveiled a Coffee Table Book titled ‘UNTOLD stories’ of Haryana Police while inaugurating the newly-built state-of-the-art State Emergency Response Centre (SERC) in Panchkula, Haryana.

      The book also explains ‘Operation Samvedna’, a drive which was undertaken by Haryana Police Department for sending back the migrant workers and labourers during the lockdown to their home States.

 

8. LADAKH SIGNED MOU WITH SIKKIM

      Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh administration signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ‘Sikkim State Organic Certification Agency’ (SSOCA) regarding the implementation of ‘Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana’ (PKVY) and Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI) in the Ladakh region.
