1.       NEXO LAUNCHES WORLD’S 1ST CRYPTO-BACKED PAYMENT CARD

·         A partnership of London (United Kingdom)-based Nexo with Mastercard, and DiPocket launched the world’s first crypto-backed payment card namely ‘Nexo Card’ in selected European countries.

·         The card is linked to a Nexo-provided, crypto-backed credit line and can be used at 92 million merchants worldwide where Mastercard is accepted.

·         It allows investors to spend up to 90% of the fiat value of their crypto assets.

 

2.       PM'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

·         UDAN (UdeDeshkaAamNagrik), a flagship Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has been chosen for the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2020 in the category “Innovation (General) – Central”.

·          UdeDeshkaAamNaagrik – Let the Common Citizens of The Country Fly.

·         The Government of India established this award in 2006 to honour, recognise, and reward remarkable and innovative work done by Districts and Organizations of State/Government. 

·         The UDAN scheme, which was launched in 2016, intends to meet the expectations of the common man by enhancing aviation infrastructure and air connectivity in tier II and III cities, as per the vision of UdeDeshkaAamNagrik.

·         It is to be noted that the tableau of the Ministry of Civil Aviation that featured the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN (UdeDeshKaAamNagrik) as its central theme, was named as the best central ministry tableau for Republic Day 2022.\

 

3.       ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION CHAIRMAN GETS 1 YEAR EXTENSION

·         The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet(ACC) has approved the extension of service to Kamlesh Nilkanth Vyas, Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission(AEC), for a period of 1 year beyond 3rd May 2022, i.e., upto 3rd May 2023. 

·         AEC was first established in August 1948 in the Department of Scientific Research.

·         The Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Atomic Energy is ex-officio Chairman of the Commission.

·         Headquarters– Mumbai, Maharashtra

 

4.       TENNIS:  ROLEX MONTE-CARLO MASTERS 2022

·         StefanosTsitsipas, a Greek professional tennis player, has won the Men’s Singles title at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters 2022, held at Monte Carlo, Monaco

·         He defeated Alejandro DavidovichFokina of Spain

·         Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) is the governing body of the men’s professional tennis circuits – the ATP Tour, the ATP Challenger Tour and the ATP Champions Tour. 

 

5.       FIH JUNIOR WOMEN’S HOCKEY WORLD CUP 2021

·         The Netherlands has won International Hockey Federation (FIH – FédérationInternationale de Hockey) Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2021, held in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

·         Netherland won the title defeating Germany for 3 -1

·         England defeated India and won the bronze

 

6.       WORLD HEMOPHILIA DAY 2022 – APRIL 17 

·         World Hemophilia Day is annually observed across the globe on 17th April to create awareness about Hemophilia, a rare disorder in which the blood doesn’t clot since it does not have enough blood-clotting proteins (clotting factors).

·         The theme of World Hemophilia Day 2022 is “Access for All: Partnership. Policy.Progress. Engaging your government, integrating inherited bleeding disorders into national policy”.

 

7.        ‘SMART CITIES, SMART URBANIZATION’ CONFERENCE STARTED IN SURAT, GUJARAT

·         The 3-day “Smart Cities, Smart Urbanization” conference has a grand opening event at the Surat International Exhibition & Convention Centre (SIECC), Surat, Gujarat. 

·         Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs took part in the events as the chief guest. 

 

8.       RBI IMPOSES RS 17.63 LAKH PENALTY ON MANAPPURAM FINANCE

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 17.63 lakh on Manappuram Finance Limited for non-compliance with certain provisions of the Master Direction on Issuance and Operation of Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs)

·         The penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under Section 30 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

 

9.       INDIA’S RETAIL INFLATION SPIKES TO 6.95% IN MARCH 2022

·          The National Statistical Office (NSO) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released two key economic statistics, that revealed Retail inflation in India, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), increased to 6.95% in March 2022.

·         Manufacturing output of India, measured in terms of Index of Industrial Production (IIP), witnessed a growth of 1.7% in February 2022.

·         Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and fuel prices, increased to a 10-month high of 6.29% in March 2022, up from 5.96% in February 2022.

·         The Wholesale Price Index (WPI), which measures wholesale price-based inflation, reached a four-month high of 14.55% in March 2022.

·         CPI measures price fluctuations from the standpoint of a retail customer.

·         IIP keeps track of manufacturing activities across the economy.

·         WPI tracks wholesale inflation, which is inflation at the producer level.

 

10.    HURUN GLOBAL HEALTHCARE RICH LIST 2022

·         Dr Cyrus S. Poonawalla Chairman and Managing Director of Serum Institute of India(SII) has topped the Hurun Global Healthcare Rich List 2022 and became the richest billionaire in the healthcare sector 2022. 

·         He has topped the list with a new value of USD 26 billion (up 41%).

·         Dilip Shanghvi & Family, of the Sun Pharmaceuticals, is at the 5th position with a net worth of USD 18 billion.

·         China (34) has the most healthcare industry billionaires

 

11.    29TH CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF

·         Government of India has appointed Vice Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant (Lt) General Manoj Chandrashekhar Pande as 29th Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

·         He will succeed General Manoj Mukund Naravane on May 1, 2022.

·         The Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Pande will be the first officer from the Corps of Engineers to become the COAS.

·         The tenure of Chief of Army Staff is 62 years of age or three years whichever is earlier.

·         With the appointment of Lieutenant General Manoj Pande as Indian Army Chief, all three service chiefs of the Indian defence forces will be from the 61st batch of the National Defense Academy (NDA)

·          Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) is still vacant due to the untimely demise of the country’s first CDS Gen BipinRawat in a chopper crash in December 2021.

 

12.    WORLD LIVER DAY 2022 – 19TH APRIL 

·         World Liver Day is annually observed across the globe on 19th April to create awareness about various liver-related diseases and conditions and the importance of the liver which plays a vital role in the human digestive system.

·         According to the World Health Organisation(WHO) report (2018), Liver diseases are the 10th most common cause of death among Indians. 

 

13.    WORLD PARKINSON’S DAY 2022 – APRIL 11

·         World Parkinson’s Day is annually observed across the globe on 11th April to create awareness about Parkinson’s disease (PD), a neurodegenerative disorder that affects predominately dopamine-producing (“dopaminergic”) neurons in the substantianigra,a critical brain region. 

·         Symbol: The Parkinson Tulip, the red tulip, with a fringe of white is the official symbol of Parkinson’s disease.

·         Parkinson’s disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement.The symptoms of PD, mainly result from low or falling levels of dopamine, neurotransmitters.

1.       EXERCISE KRIPAN SHAKTI

·         Exercise KRIPAN SHAKTI, an Integrated Fire Power exercise was recently conducted by The Indian Army’s Trishakti Crops at the Teesta Field Firing Ranges (TFFR), near Siliguri, West Bengal.

·         The aim of the exercise is to showcase the jointmanship and synchronisation capabilities of Indian Army and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to fight in an integrated battle.

 

2.       COVID-19 PLUNGED 77 MILLION INTO POVERTY IN 2021: UN-DESA REPORT

·         In accordance with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) report, the COVID-19 plunged 77 million more people into extreme poverty in 2021

·         The report is on financing to achieve UN development goals for 2030, including ending poverty, ensuring quality education for all young people and achieving gender equality.

·         812 million people lived in extreme poverty i.e. on USD 1.90 a day or less  in 2019, and by 2021 this number had risen to 889 million.

·         GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita in 20% of developing countries will not return to pre-2019 levels by the end of 2023.

 

3.       MALCOLM ADISESHIAH AWARD 2022

·         An Indian Marxist economist and political commentator Dr.Prabhat Patnaik from Odisha has been selected for the 2022 Malcom Adiseshiah Award for his contributions to development studies for an outstanding economist.

·         This is a prestigious award instituted by Malcolm & Elizabeth AdiseshiahTrust.Both awards are open to Indian and foreign scholars ordinarily resident in India.

·         Malcolm Adiseshiah Award is given for Distinguished Contributions to Development Studies for an outstanding economist / social Scientist / historian.

 

4.       INDIGENOUSLY DEVELOPED SPECIALIST VEHICLES INDUCTED INTO ARMY 

·         India’s General MM Naravane, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) inducted the first set of indigenously developed specialist vehicles into the army during the event organised at the Bombay Engineer Group (BEG).

·         Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicle Medium (QRFV), Infantry Protected Mobility Vehicle (IPMV), Ultra Long Range Observation System developed by Tata Advanced System Limited (TASL).

·         Monocoque Hull Multi Role Mine Protected Armoured Vehicle developed by Bharat Forge.   

·         TASL became the first private sector company in India to produce and deliver wheeled armoured combat-ready vehicles for the Armed Forces.

 

5.       NATIONAL FIRE SERVICE DAY 2022 – APRIL 14 

·         National Fire Service (NFS) Day is annually observed across India on 14th April to highlight the importance of fire service and to pay homage to the firefighters who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. 

·         The theme of National Fire Service Day 2022 is “Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity”.

1.       PM MODI INAUGURATES ‘PRADHANMANTRI SANGRAHALAYA’

     Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated the PradhanmantriSangrahalaya, or Prime Ministers’ Museum, in New Delhi (Delhi), to honour the efforts of all 14 Indian Prime Ministers since independence, regardless of ideology or duration in office.

     It is constructed on the site of Teen Murti Estate, which served as the home of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, for 16 years until being converted into the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) following his death.

1.       INDIA’S BULLET TRAIN PROJECT: JAPAN TO SEND MODIFIED TRAINS

     Japan will send its improved high-speed ‘E5 Shinkansen series trains’ from Japan to India based upon the modifications to its conditions like temperature, dust and weight. Japan will initially send six trains according to Indian specifications.

     The E5 series Shinkansen high-speed trains are built by Hitachi and Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

     The high-speed trains are capable of running at a speed of 320 Kilometre per hour (kmph) and are 3.35 metre wide.

 

2.       PNB CELEBRATED 128TH FOUNDATION DAY

     Punjab National Bank (PNB), a public sector bank, has celebrated its 128th Foundation Day on April 12, 2022.

     Atul Kumar Goel, MD & CEO of PNB launched a cardless cash withdrawal service and a virtual debit card for its users.

     PNB was established by the great freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai, proudly known as Sher-e-Punjab (Lion of Punjab) in 1894 as the First Swadeshi Bank after being influenced by the swadeshi movement.

     This is a first of its kind museum in India.

     The Community Museum is a joint collaboration between National Museum Institute(NMI), New Delhi, Delhi and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council(LAHDC), Leh, Ladakh.

     The Museum aims to preserve and take forward the rich cultural heritage of the region.

     Gya, situated on the Leh-Manali National Highway, is the first village and oldest inhabitation in Upper Ladakh.

1.       NITI AAYOG’S 1ST SECI ROUND -I APRIL 2022

     NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog has launched the 1st State Energy & Climate Index (SECI)-Round I April 2022 at an event chaired by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog. It is based on 2019-20 data.

     SECI is the first index that aims to track the efforts made by States and Union Territories (UTs) in the climate and energy sector.

     The states of Gujarat, Kerala, and Punjab are the top 3 among larger states while Goa, Tripura, and Manipur are top 3 among smaller states.

     Among UTs, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.

1.       LEH TO SIGN TRIPARTITE AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP HANLE AS DARK SKY SANCTUARY

·         The Leh administration is set to sign a tripartite agreement to develop Hanle as Dark Sky Sanctuary. The Leh Hill Council, WildLife and Tourism departments will jointly develop the area for Astrotourism.

·         Ladakh’s administration in association with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics aims to promote Astro-tourism in the village of Hanle in the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh.

·         The village of Hanle, located in the Hanle river valley, which has been declared as a dark sky sanctuary, will offer an unequivocal dark sky experience to tourists.
