1.         COMMITTEE TO REVIEW MARKETING PRACTICES OF PHARMA COMPANIES

·           The Central Government has formed a 5-member high-level committee to review marketing practices of pharmaceutical companies in India.

·           It will be chaired by Vinod Kumar (VK) Paul member (health), NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog.

·           It will also review various other issues pertaining to the Uniform Code of Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP), and recommend legally enforceable measures against firms indulging in malpractices.

·           The Indian Medical Council Regulations, 2002, details professional misconduct by medical practitioners , including accepting gifts from drug companies and commissions from laboratories.

 

2.         INDIA WON UN AWARDS FOR ‘INDIA HYPERTENSION CONTROL INITIATIVE (IHCI)’

·           India won a 2022 United Nations (UN) Interagency Task Force, and WHO Special Programme on Primary Health Care Award’ for its ‘India Hypertension Control Initiative (IHCI)’, a Large-scale hypertension intervention under the National Health Mission (NHM) at the UN General Assembly.

·           IHCI is a collaborative initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), state governments and the World Health Organization(WHO)-India.

·           The Indian Government has adopted the “25 by 25” goal to reduce premature mortality due to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) by 25% by 2025.

 

3.         INDIAN COAST GUARD INDUCTS ICGS SAMARTH IN ITS FLEET

·           The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has inducted ‘Samarth’  to strengthen the coastal security mechanism.

·           The ship has been based at Kochi, Kerala from Goa under the operational command of Coast Guard District Headquarters-4 (Kerala &Mahe), Kochi.

·           Integrated Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Samarth is a 105 metre-long ship that is designed with a maximum speed of 23 knots (approximately 43 Kmph).

·           Recently, a new capital ship Saksham joined the Coast Guard fleet in Kerala.

·           Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) is the chief guest of the launching ceremony.

 

4.         INDIA WILL HOST THE MAIDEN MOTO GP RACE IN 2023

·           India will be hosting a maiden MotoGP (Grand Prix motorcycle racing) World Championships race, named the ‘Grand Prix of Bharat’ at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh in the following year (2023).

·           Riders from 19 countries will participate in the event.

 

5.         WORLD RHINO DAY 2022 – SEPTEMBER 22 

·           World Rhino Day is annually observed across the globe on September 22 to spread awareness about the different types of Rhinos and the existential risks they face.

·           The theme of World Rhino Day 2022 is Five Rhino Species Forever. 

·           The 5 species of Rhino are,2 African rhino species – black and white rhinos.

·           3 Asian rhino species – Greater One-Horned, Sumatran and Javan rhinos.

·           According to the list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), critically endangered species are Javan, Sumatran and Black rhinos; Near Threatened is white rhinos; Vulnerable is Greater One-Horned.

 

6.         WORLD CAR-FREE DAY 2022- SEPTEMBER 22 

·           The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), World Car-Free Day is annually observed across the globe on September 22 to encourage people to give up their cars for a day and adopt using non-motorized transport like riding a bicycle or walking.

·           The World Health Organization reported that environmental air pollution alone caused roughly 4.2 million deaths in 2016.

 

7.         INDIA, PAKISTAN, SRI LANKA, BANGLADESH AND NEPAL FORMED APOA

·           The 25th Globoil Summit 2022, organized by Tefla’s, was held in Agra, Uttar Pradesh (UP) which saw the participation of 1,500 attendees from 50 countries.  

·           During the summit,  the apex edible oil industry associations from five major palm oil importing countries from Asia viz. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal have formed an Asian Palm Oil Alliance (APOA).

·           APOA secretariat will be initially managed by The Solvent Extractors’ Association (SEA) of India.

·           Chairman– Atul Chaturvedi, Director of Adani Wilmar Ltd and the President of SEA, was elected as the first Chairman of the APOA

 

8.         REC LTD BECOMES 12TH COMPANY TO GET MAHARATNA CPSE STATUS

·           The Government of India (GoI) accorded the status of Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) to REC Limited (formerly Rural Electrification Corporation Limited), a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), specialised in financing for energy sectors.

·           REC Limited was a Navratna company under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power.

·           REC Limited can now make investments up to Rs 5,000 crore, or 15% of its web price, in a single mission after its Maharatna standing.

·           A company must be listed on an Indian inventory alternate and have an average annual turnover of over Rs25,000 crore throughout the earlier three years to be categorised as a Maharatna standing.

·           It must also have a mean annual web price throughout the earlier three years of greater than Rs 15,000 crore and a mean web revenue of over Rs 5,000 crore throughout the identical interval.

·           India has 13 Navratna and 74 Miniratna CPSEs.

 

9.         THE OVAL, LORD’S WILL HOST NEXT TWO ICC WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS IN 2023 & 2025

·           The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final will be hosted by The Oval, London, England  in June 2023 and the 2025 edition of WTC Final will be played at Lord’s, London.

·           The Lord’s  earlier hosted several high profile ICC matches, including the2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final.

1.              EXERCISE PARVAT PRAHAR IN LADAKH

·                General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) reviewed exercise Parvat Prahar, on his 2-day visit to Ladakh.

·                The exercise took place amid the  disengagement process of India and China Patrolling Point (PP) 15 in the Gogra-Hot Springs area on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

·                ParvatPrahar was held in the Ladakh plateau at an altitude of 14,000 feet, by the Mathura-based 1 strike Corps of the Indian Army.

 

2.              WORLD DAIRY SUMMIT 2022

·                Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit (IDF WDS) 2022 at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida.

·                Theme – Dairy for Nutrition and Livelihood.

·                The last such Summit was held in India in 1974.

3.              MULTINATIONAL NAVAL EX KAKADU 2022 IN AUSTRALIA

·                The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Satpura and a P8 I Maritime Patrol Aircraft of the Indian Navy reached Darwin in Australia to participate in the multinational Exercise Kakadu 2022 (KA22).

·                Theme:Partnership, Leadership, Friendship

·                Exercise Kakadu was Initiated in 1993, it is a joint-enabled, biennial exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Navy and supported by the Royal Australian Air Force.

 

4.              SBIF & WWF INDIA PARTNERS FOR RED PANDA TRANSBOUNDARY CONSERVATION

·                State Bank of India Foundation (SBIF) and World Wide Fund for Nature – India (WWF India) partnered to generate fine-scale information on the Red Panda species at a transboundary level and engage in safeguarding the habitats of the Red Panda in Khangchendzonga area of Sikkim and West Bengal.

·                An event was organised at the Himalayan Zoological Park in Gangtok, Sikkim to celebrate International Red Panda Day.

·                International Red Panda Day is celebrated every year on the 3rd Saturday of September (17th September in 2022) to support Red Panda conservation.

·                The Himalayan Zoological Park is the first of its kind, where animals are kept in their natural habitat.

 

23.           INS Ajay Decommissioned

·                The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Ajay (P34), the second Abhay class anti-submarine warfare ship of the Western Naval Command, was decommissioned at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, Maharashtra, after 32 years of outstanding service to the nation.

·                INS Ajay (P34) was commissioned on January 24, 1990 in Poti, Georgia, in the former Soviet Union.

·                INS Ajay (1960) was the first indigenously built ship in Independent India, delivered in 1961 by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, West Bengal.

·                It was gifted to Bangladesh in 1974, where it served as Bangladesh Naval Ship (BNS) Surma.

 

24.           2022 SAFF Women’s Championship

·                Bangladesh won the 2022 South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship.

·                The tournament was played at Dashrath Rangshala Stadium, Kathmandu, Nepal.

·                Bangladesh defeated Nepal by 3–1 goals in the final match.

·                Bangladesh skipper Sabina Khatun  was also named as the ‘Most Valuable Player’ of the tournament for her extraordinary game. Bangladesh team won the ‘Fair Play Award’ also.

·                Bangladesh goalkeeper Rupna Chakma was named the ‘Best Goalkeeper’ of the tournament

 

25.           ABHYAS-INDIA-USA COAST GUARD JOINT EXERCISE 

·                A joint exercise ‘Abhyas-01/22’ between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) was held off Chennai coast in Tamil Nadu (TN).

·                It promotes a ‘free and open’ Indo-Pacific.

·                It should be noted that the US Coast Guard cutter Midgett took part in the exercise who was on a 4-day goodwill visit for at-sea & in-port pro exchanges with the ICG. Over the course of this voyage, the Midgett interacted with counterparts in the Philippines, Singapore, and also taken part in bilateral exercises.

 

26.           AIBD’S 47TH ANNUAL GATHERING 2022

·                Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur inaugurated the 47th Annual Gathering and 20th Asia-pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development (AIBD) General Conference (GC) and Associated Meeting 2022 in New Delhi.

·                India’s Presidency of the prestigious AIBD has been extended for another year and the decision was unanimously taken by the AIBD member countries at this 2-day GC.

·                Theme of the event is ‘Building a stronger future for broadcasting in the post pandemic era’.

 

27.           NPCI INTRODUCES UPI PAYMENTS THROUGH RUPAY CREDIT CARDS

·                The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments via credit cards on the RuPay network, potentially expanding the credit market.

·                Shaktikanta Das, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), unveiled this at the 3rd edition of Global Fintech Fest 2022 (GFF 2022) along with “UPI Lite” for small-value UPI transactions via a wallet-like feature

·                To enable offline payments, RuPay credit cards will be linked to a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) or a UPI ID.

·                The first banks to launch UPI on RuPay credit cards using the BHIM app are Punjab National Bank (PNB), Union Bank of India (UBI), and Indian Bank. [BHIM stands for Bharat Interface for Money].

·                Theme for GFF 2022 – “Creating A Sustainable Financial World—Global | Inclusive | Green”

 

28.           ADB CUTS INDIA’S GDP GROWTH FORECAST FOR FY23 TO 7.0 %

·                The Asian Development Bank (ADB), in its September 2022 update of the report titled “Asian Development Outlook 2022: Entrepreneurship in the Digital Age”, reduced India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth forecast for fiscal year 2022-23 (FY23) to 7% from 7.2 % earlier

·                Every year, ADB releases the flagship ADO report in April month.

·                It had then projected the Indian economy to grow at 7.5 per cent in FY23 and 8 per cent in FY24.

·                According to the ADO, the Chinese economy would rise by 3.3 % in 2022, lower than the previously predicted 5.0 %.

 

29.           GATES FOUNDATION HONOURS 4 LEADERS WITH 2022 GOALKEEPERS GLOBAL GOALS AWARDS

·                Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation honoured 4 changemakers, Dr Radhika Batra (India), Zahra Joya (Afghanistan), Vanessa Nakate (Uganda), and Ursula von der Leyen (Germany), with the 2022 Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards as a part of its annual Goalkeepers campaign.

·                Dr Radhika Batra (India) is given 2022 Progress Award

·                The award recognises their efforts to advance progress towards the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their communities and around the world.

·                Dr Radhika Batra is the Co-founder of the nonprofit organization ‘Every Infant Matters’, which provides last-mile health solutions to disadvantaged children in India.

·                She is progressing SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.

·                In September 2022, UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) appointed Vanessa Nakate as its Goodwill Ambassador.

 

30.           RATAN TATA & 2 OTHERS APPOINTED AS TRUSTEES OF PM CARES FUND

·                Government has appointed Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus, Ratan Tata; retired Justice K.T. Thomas, former Supreme Court judge; and former deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha Kariya Munda as the trustees of the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund).

·                PM CARES Fund is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

·                The Trust has decided to nominate other eminent persons for the Constitution of Advisory Board of PM CARES Fund, they are:Rajiv Mehrishi, Former Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

·                Sudha Murthy, Former Chairperson, Infosys Foundation.Anand Shah, Co-founder of Teach for India and Former CEO of Indicorps and Piramal Foundation.

 

31.           NASA’S MOXIE INSTRUMENT SUCCESSFULLY MAKES OXYGEN ON MARS

·                NASA’s Experiment Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilisation Experiment (MOXIE), a lunchbox sized instrument has successfully generated oxygen (O2) by carrying out the work of a tiny tree on Mars.

·                Since February 2021, the MIT-led MOXIE, has been producing oxygen from the carbon-dioxide (CO2) rich atmosphere of Mars.

·                Moxie is capable of producing O2 at almost any time of the Mars Planet’s day and year but the current version of the instrument is small by design in order to fit aboard the Perseverance rover.

 

32.           INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE 2022- SEPTEMBER 21 

·                The United Nations (UN) International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day is annually observed across the globe on 21 September to strengthen the ideals of peace by following 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.

33.           WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY 2022- SEPTEMBER 21

·                World Alzheimer’s Day is annually celebrated across the globe on 21 September to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and the importance of a timely diagnosis, warning signs of dementia.

·                Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink (atrophy) and brain cells to die.

·                It is the most common type of dementia that affects around 50-60% of people with dementia.

·                The theme for World Alzheimer’s Month in September 2022 is ‘Know dementia, Know Alzheimer’s’, continues on from the 2021 campaign.

1.              MCA REVISES DEFINITION OF SMALL COMPANIES

·                The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has further revised the definition of “small companies” under the Companies Act, 2013 by raising the thresholds for paid-up capital from ‘not exceeding Rs. 2 crore’ to ‘not exceeding Rs. 4 crore’ and turnover from ‘not exceeding Rs. 20 crore’ to ‘not exceeding Rs. 40 crore’.

2.              IWA WORLD WATER CONGRESS IN COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

·                A Whitepaper on ‘Urban Wastewater Scenario in India’ was launched during International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress & Exhibition 2022 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

·                This whitepaper is an outcome of the Green Strategic Partnership between India and Denmark with a focus on green hydrogen, renewable energy and wastewater management.

·                It was prepared by an interdisciplinary team which was formed by the Government of India (GoI) with partners from Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, MoJS, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Innovation Centre Denmark (ICDK), and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB).

·                It points out the current status of wastewater treatment in India and potential pathways for future treatment structures, co-creation and collaborations.

 

3.              HUNGARY IS NO LONGER A FULL DEMOCRACY

·                The Members of the European Parliament (MEP) declared in a non-binding but highly symbolic report, that Hungary is no longer a fully functioning democracy.

·                The declaration states that Hungary will be considered a ‘hybrid regime of electoral autocracy’,  in which elections will be held regularly without following basic democratic norms.

·                Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union (EU) is a procedure in the treaties of the EU to suspend certain rights from a member state.

 

4.              SAUDI ARABIA BECOME INDIA’S SECOND-LARGEST OIL SUPPLIER IN AUGUST 2022

·                Saudi Arabia became the 2nd-biggest oil supplier to India overtaking Russia (first is Iraq).

·                India also became Russia’s second biggest oil purchaser after China.

·                India, the world’s 3rd biggest oil importer and consumer, shipped in 8,63,950 barrels per day (bpd) of crude from Saudi Arabia up from 4.8% from July 2022.

·                In August 2022, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was the 4th, while Kazakhstan replaced Kuwait to become 5th-largest oil supplier to India, followed by the United States (USA).

 

5.              DR SWATI PIRAMAL CONFERRED FRANCE’S  LEGION OF HONOUR AWARD

·                Indian Scientist-Industrialist and Padma Shri recipient Dr Swati Piramal, Vice-Chairperson of the Piramal Group was honoured with the ‘Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur’ (Knight of the Legion of Honour), France’s top civilian honour for her contribution to business, science, medicine, arts, culture, and Indo-French ties.

·                The award is in recognition of her outstanding achievements and contributions in the fields of business and industry, science, medicine, arts and culture, both nationally and internationally.

·                The Legion of Honour award is conferred by the French Republic for outstanding service to France, regardless of the nationality of the recipients, and the President of France is the Grand Master of the Order of the Legion of Honour.

 

6.              INSPIRE AWARDS – MANAK TO 60 STARTUPS

·                Union Minister of State (MoS) for Science & Technology, Jitendra Singh presented INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research)  awards – MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspirations and Knowledge) to 60 startups and financial support to 53,021 students.

·                The award is instituted by the Department of Science & Technology (DST).

·                According to Minister Jitendra Singh, in 2020-2021, the annual INSPIRE Awards–MANAK competition attracted 6.53 Lakh unique ideas and innovations from all States and Union Territories (UTs) of the country.

·                In India, out of 766 districts, 702 districts have represented the ideas and innovations in the INSPIRE Awards–MANAK scheme.

·                The INSPIRE Awards – MANAK,  a flagship scheme of the country is jointly implemented by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) with the National Innovation Foundation – India (NIF).

·                It aims to motivate students in the age group of 10-15 years and studying in classes 6 to 10.

 

7.              ROGER FEDERER ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM PROFESSIONAL TENNIS

·                A Professional Tennis Player from Switzerland, Roger Federer has announced his retirement from the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Tour and Grand Slams at the age of 41.

·                The 5th Laver Cup 2022 from September 23-25 that will be held at The O2 in London, United Kingdom (UK) will be his final appearance on the ATP circuit.

·                He played a total matches of 1,526, and won 1,251, 2nd in the Open Era behind United States’ (US) Jimmy Connors (1274)

·                He has won 20 Grand Slam victories, and finished 5 seasons ranked No.1.

·                His victories include- the Australian Open six times, the French Open once, the US Open five times, and Wimbledon, a record eight times (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2017).

·                His 20 Grand Slam titles are 3rd highest behind Spain’s Rafael Nadal (22), and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic (21).

·                He also won the most Grand Slams Men’s singles main matches (369) in the Open Era.

·                He holds the record of becoming the oldest ever world No. 1 at age 36 years, 320 days and remaining at the top of the rankings for a record 237 consecutive weeks.

·                He is also the oldest men’s player to win Wimbledon in 2017 at the age of 35 years, 342 days.

·                He is the only men’s player to win at least 10 titles on clay, grass, and hard courts.

 

8.              WORLD YOUTH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP IN ROMANIA

·                India’s Pranav Anand (Karnataka) won the Under-16 (Open) title 

·                A R Ilamparthi (Tamil Nadu)  won the Under 14 (Open) title at the World Youth Chess Championship 2022 held in Mamaia, Rom├ónia.

·                In the girls Under-18 event, S Kanishka secured 6th place and Rakshittaravi finished 8th.

 

9.              NATIONAL LOGISTICS POLICY LAUNCHE

·                The Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi launched the National Logistics Policy (NLP) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi (Delhi) that will act as single point of reference for all logistics and trade facilitation matters.

·                The NLP, in conjunction with the PM-Gati Shakti Programme, Sagarmala and Bharatmala (waterways and roadways) schemes, the Dedicated Freight Corridors, etc., can be transformational.

·                A new digital platform, Ease of logistics Services or E-Log has also been launched through which industry associations can take up any issues regarding operations and performance with the government.

 

10.           WORLD’S FIRST INTERCONTINENTAL CARNIVORE TRANSLOCATION: WILD CHEETAHS REINTRODUCED IN INDIA

·                Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reintroduced wild Cheetahs (Scientic Name- Acinonyx jubatus) in Kuno National Park, Sheopur and Morena districts ,Madhya Pradesh, as part of “Project Cheetah”, the world’s first inter-continental large wild carnivore translocation project.

·                Of the eight Cheetahs that were introduced in India, five are females and three are males.

·                Since Cheetahs were proclaimed extinct in Indian forests in 1952, these Cheetahs have been brought from Namibia (Africa) and are being introduced into India.

·                The very last cheetah was killed in India in 1947.

·                The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species classifies the Cheetah as ‘Vulnerable’ species.

·                Kuno River is Tributary of Chambal River. Kuno national park is situated in Vindhyan Hills of Central India

·                The translocated cheetahs are currently named -- Elton, Freddie, Oban, Siyaya, Aasha, Tbilisi, Sasha and Savannah

11.           KAZAKHSTAN RENAMES CAPITAL TO ASTANA

·                The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, signed constitutional amendments that extended the nation’s presidential term to 7 years from 5 years, and brought back the old name of the country’s capital to Astana from the current Nur-Sultan.

·                Astana became the capital of Kazakhstan in 1997. Then in 2019, its capital was named ‘Nur-Sultan’ in honour of outgoing President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who ruled the nation for 3 decades.

 

12.           VISIT OF PM NARENDRA MODI TO UZBEKISTAN FOR THE SCO SUMMIT 2022

·                Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Samarkand, Uzbekistan, to attend the 22nd Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) 2022.

·                The summit was chaired by the President of Uzbekistan, H.E. Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

·                At the 22nd Meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, India, was nominated as the first-ever SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital for the years 2022–2023.

·                During the 22nd Meeting India took over the rotating presidency of the SCO from Uzbekistan.

·                India will hold the presidency of the group for a year, till September 2023.

·                The next meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in 2023 will be held in India.

13.           UNEP LAUNCHED ‘GREEN FINS HUB’ TO ENCOURAGE SUSTAINABLE MARINE TOURISM

·                The United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), along with  Reef-World Foundation, the United Kingdom (UK) based charity, launched a global digital platform, ‘Green Fins Hub’. 

·                Green Fins Hub is the first ever global marine tourism industry platform.

·                It is a global digital platform which will help diving and snorkelling operators worldwide to make simple, cost efficient changes to their daily practices by utilizing tried and tested solutions.

14.           AMADOU BA APPOINTED AS SENEGAL’S PM

·                Macky Sall President of Senegal reinstated the post of Prime Minister(PM), appointing former Economy Minister Amadou Ba(61 years old) as the PM of Senegal.

·                The post of Prime Minister was abolished in April 2019.

15.           WORLD WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2022

·                17th edition of the World Wrestling Championships or World Wrestling Championships 2022 was held in Belgrade, Serbia.

·                United states of America lead the table with 15 medals followed by Japan and Turkey.

·                India is ranked 24th with 2 medals.

·                India’s Bajrang Punia (Haryana) has won the men’s 65 kg bronze medal by defeating  Sebastian Rivera of Puerto Rico in the World Wrestling Championships 2022.

·                Vinesh Phogat won the bronze medal in the 53kg category .

·                She defeated European champion Emma Malmgren of Sweden

 

16.           DURAND CUP FOOTBALL 2022

·                Sunil Chhetri-led Bengaluru FC (BFC) won their 1st ever Durand Cup 2022 by defeating Mumbai City FC (MCFC)

·                It is the 131st edition of Durand Cup, Asia’s oldest football tournament held at Salt Lake Stadium or Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan stadium, Kolkata in West Bengal.

 

17.           WORLD BAMBOO DAY 2022 – SEPTEMBER 18

·                World Bamboo Day (WBD) is annually observed across the globe on 18th September to create awareness about Bamboo, which is considered to be Green Gold.

·                The Indian Forest Act 1927, declared bamboo as a tree which prohibited it from cutting and transporting.

·                In 2017, after the amendment of section 2(7) of the Indian Forest Act 1927 , parliament declared that bamboo is not a tree and does not require permission for felling and transporting.

 

18.           SEPTEMBER 17: HYDERABAD LIBERATION DAY

·                On 17th September 2022 Union Home Minister Amit Shah started off Hyderabad Liberation Day (or National Integration Day) celebrations from the Parade ground in Telangana’s Secunderabad to commemorate 75 years of liberation of Hyderabad.

·                At the time of the Partition of India, in 1947, India was divided into British India and Princely states. The states were acceded to either Pakistan or India.Hyderabad was one of the large princely state.

·                Indian Home Minister Sardar Patel decided to annex Hyderabad, and that led to ‘Operation Polo’ (Police action against Hyderabad).

·                Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan, the 7th in the line of the AsafJahi dynasty, had surrendered Hyderabad during the Operation and the state was integrated into the territory of India on 17th September 1948, which is now celebrated as Hyderabad Liberation Day.
