1.AL-BASED HYDROGEN PRODUCTION

•      The Ministry of Coal(MoC) constituted a Task Force under the Chairmanship of Vinod Kumar Tiwari, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Coal and the Expert Committee under the Chairmanship of R.K Malhotra, Director General of the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry.

•      Objective– Contribution in Hydrogen Economy in a clean manner.

 

2.GOVT SETS UP THREE BARS TO HELP WITH TAX MATTERS

•      The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has set up three Boards for Advance Rulings (BAR) which will offer help on tax implications of transactions, which in turn will help avoid income tax disputes.

•      This will replace Authority for Advance Rulings (AAR), which was set up in 1993, w.e.f. September 1, 2021.

•      This decision to replace was taken to fast-track disposal of cases.

•      Out of the three BARs, two will be in Delhi and one in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

•      Each BAR will consist of two members not below the rank of a Chief Commissioner.

 

3.EL SALVADOR  ADOPTED BITCOIN AN OFFICIAL CURRENCY

•      A Central American country El Salvador becomes the first country to adopt bitcoin as a national currency.

•      The country has passed a resolution to make Bitcoin as a legal currency alongside the US dollar on last June 2021 and bill was the approved by President NayibBukele.

•      San Salvador is the capital of El Salvador.

•      The country launched the digital wallet called “Chivo” or “Cool” which offered $30 of free Bitcoin for the adaption.

 

4.NPCI PARTNERS WITH FISERV TO LAUNCH RUPAY API PLATFORM – “NFINI”

•      National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) partnered with fintech firm ‘Fiserv’ to launch “nFiNi”, a RuPay based Application Programming Interface (API) platform to boost Credit card-based products in India.

•      Services under nFiNi – Support for digital user experience in Mobile apps, SMS notifications, instant digital card provisions and other immediate transaction features.

 

5.1ST HURUN INDIA FUTURE UNICORN LIST 2021

•      In accordance with the first Hurun India Future unicorn List 2021′ released by Hurun Research Institute, India became the third largest Unicorn ecosystem in the world after the United States (US) and China as India have 51 Unicorns worth $168 billion, and 32 Gazelles and 54 Cheetahs.

•      This list is a ranking of India’s startups founded in the 2000s, having a value of US$200 million (Rs 1,500 crore), and have not yet been listed on the stock exchange.

•      Number of Unicorns in the US and China is at 396 and 277 respectively.

 

6.AICTE- VISVESVARAYA BEST TEACHER AWARD 2021

•      Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education(MoE) presented the AICTE-Visvesvaraya Best Teacher Awards 2021 to 17 faculty members of engineering and technical education and the AICTE-Dr.Pritam Singh Best Teacher Awards 2021 to 3 faculty members of management education, at the function held in New Delhi on the occasion of National Teachers Day 2021(September 5).

•      The winners of the awards were nominated by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the technical education regulator of India.

 

7.NEERAJ CHOPRA MADE BRAND PARTNERSHIP WITH TATA AIA INSURANCE

•      Tata AIA Life Insurance signed a multi-year brand partnership with Subedar Neeraj Chopra, an Indian athlete and Olympic gold medallist as its brand ambassador.

•      This marks the company made very first brand partnership with the Neeraj Chopra.

•      Neeraj Chopra who won the gold medal in Javelin Throw at recently concluded 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

 

8.HARSHA BANGARI TAKES CHARGE AS MD OF EXIM BANK

•      The government of India has appointed Harsha Bangari as the Managing Director(MD) of Export-Import Bank of India (India EXIM Bank) for a period of 3 years or until further orders. She took charge as the MD on 8th September 2021.

•      He was appointed as the MD of India Exim Bank following the recommendation of the Banks Board Bureau(BBB).

 

9.NIRLEP SINGH RAI APPOINTED AS A  NEW CMD OF NFL

•      Nirlep Singh Rai is appointed as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of National Fertilizer Limited (NFL).

•      The NFL is a Miniratna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Department of Fertilizer.

•      The appointment was approved by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for the tenure of two years.

 

10.ATUL BHATT APPOINTED AS THE NEW CMD OF RINL

•      The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Atul Bhatt as the new Chairman and Managing Director(CMD) of the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited(RINL)(also known as Visakhapatnam steel plant), the steel produced based in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

•      Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) recommended Atul Bhatt for the post of CMD of RINL following the retirement of incumbent Pradosh Kumar Rath (PK Rath) on 31st May 2021.

 

11.BYJU’S ACQUIRED GRADEUP; REBRANDED AS BYJU’S EXAM PREP

•      Ed-Tech Unicorn Byju’s has acquired the online exam preparation platform Gradeup to boost the ed tech’s presence in the online competitive exam preparation category.

•      Following the acquisition of Gradeup, it has been rebranded as Byju’s Exam Prep.

•      This marks the 8th acquisition by Byju’s in 2021.

•      Gradeup headquartered in Noida, Uttar Pradesh was established in 2015 .

 

12.BHUPENDERYADAV LAUNCHED PORTAL “PRANA”

•      Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister of  Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) launched “PRANA” – Portal for Regulation of Air-pollution in Non-Attainment Cities(NACs), a portal to monitor the implementation of India’s National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

•      The portal was launched during the event organised as a part of the United Nations(UN)’s 2nd International Day of Clean Air For Blue Skies.

 

13.ISRO RELEASES CHANDRAYAAN-2 DATA

•      In accordance with the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), the INSPIRESat-1 CubeSat, developed under the International Satellite Program in Research and Education (INSPIRE) is all set for launch through an upcoming Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) mission of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

•      Chairman of ISRO Kailasavadivoo Sivan inaugurated a 2-day Lunar Science Workshop 2021, to commemorate the completion of two years of operation of Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft around the lunar orbit.

 

14.INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY 2021 – SEPTEMBER 8

•      The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO)’s International Literacy Day(ILD) is annually observed across the globe on 8th September to highlight the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights.

•      The theme of UNESCO’s ILD 2021 is “Literacy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide”.

•      Winners of The UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize 2021:

•      National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), India.

•      Puku Children’s Literature Foundation, South Africa.

•      Limitless Horizons Ixil (LHI), Guatemala.

 

15.DELHI IMPLEMENTS “BUSINESS BLASTERS” PROGRAMME

•      Manish Sisodia, the deputy Chief Minister of Delhi launched the “Business Balsters” programme, which will be implemented in all the Government run schools across Delhi.

•      This program aims to inculcate entrepreneurship mindset at the school-level, it is an initiative under Delhi’s ambitious “Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum” (EMC).

•      Under the Business Blasters programme, Classes XI and XII of Delhi government schools will be provided with a Seed Money of Rs. 2,000 to start a business.

 

16.MEITY LAUNCHED PMGDISHA DRIVE

•      Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology(MeitY) launched Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) Drive under the PMGDISHA Scheme and announced a PMGDISHA Campaign for 100% digital literacy in digital villages under ‘AzadiKaAmritMahotsav’ celebrations.

 

17.AIR CHIEF MARSHAL BHADAURIA ATTENDED PACS 2021

•      Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria(RKS Bhadauria) attended the Pacific Air Chiefs Symposium(PACS) 2021 held at joint base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii from 30th August to 2nd September 2021.

•      The theme of PACS 2021 is “Enduring Cooperation Towards Regional Stability”.

•      PACS 2021 bought together Air Chief from Indo-Pacific countries (including the United States of America(USA) and 11 other countries) .

 

18.‘BOB WORLD’ A DIGITAL BANKING PLATFORM

•      Bank of Baroda(BoB), owned by the government of India has launched a digital banking platform “Bob World” to offer all banking services on a single platform.

•      Bob World, the revamped Mobile Banking application of BOB, was previously known as M-Connect Plus.

 

19.RBI REMOVES UCO BANK OUT OF PCA RESTRICTIONS

•      The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) delisted UCO Bank, a Public Sector Bank, from its Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework, as the bank’s earning in the last 1-year till 31st March 2021 has satisfied the necessary conditions for its removal.

•      Currently, the PCA framework monitors only 2 banks – Indian Overseas Bank & Central Bank of India.

•      PCA framework was introduced by RBI in 2002, as an early-intervention mechanism to save banks from closure due to undercapitalisation.

 

20.INDIA’S SHERPA FOR G20

•      Union Minister PiyushVedprakashGoyal, Ministry of Commerce and Industry was appointed as India’s Sherpa for the G20 (Group of Twenty) by replacing former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu.

 

21.GC MURMU ELECTED AS CHAIRMAN OF ASOSAI

•      The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, Girish Chandra(GC) Murmu has been elected as the chairman of the assembly of Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) for a period of three years from 2024 – 2027.

•      He was elected by the 56th governing board of ASOSAI and approved by the 15th assembly of ASOSAI.

•      India will host the 16th ASOSAI assembly meeting in 2024.

 

22.HIMALAYA DIWAS 2021 – SEPTEMBER 9

•      Himalaya Diwas, also known as the Himalayan day is annually observed across India especially in Uttarakhand on September 9th to create awareness about the importance and significance of the Himalayas.

•      The day also celebrates the unique biodiversity of the Himalayas.

1.‘SIMBEX’ 2021 HELD IN SOUTH CHINA SEA

•      28th Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise ‘SIMBEX-2021’ was held between the Indian Navy and Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) in the southern edge of the South China Sea.

•      It was hosted by RSN as ‘at sea only’ i.e. without any physical interactions due to COVID-19.

 

2.OVL & IOC SIGNED MOU WITH RUSSIA’S GAZPROM

•      PM Narendra Modi virtually addressed the plenary session of the 6th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) i.e. the 2021 edition of EEF, which was held in Vladivostok, Russia.

•      Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri led the Indian delegation of Indian oil and gas companies to have a 5-day visit to Russia.

•      ONGC Videsh Ltd and the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), signed a MoU with Russia’s Gazprom for cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector.

•      The MoU was signed at the 6th EEF.

1. MOU TO RECONSTRUCT PROJECTS DAMAGED BY 2015 EARTHQUAKE

•      India and Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs ) for the reconstruction of 14 cultural heritage and 103 health sector projects across different districts of Nepal, which were damaged by the 2015 earthquake.

•      The projects will be reconstructed at a cost of 420 crore Nepalese Rupees (~$36 million).

 

2.CYBER LAB FOR ONLINE CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME

•      National e-Governance Division (NeGD ) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology(MeitY ), Government of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Law University(NLU), Delhi and National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal to establish a Cyber Lab for the “Online capacity building Programme on Cyber Law, Crime Investigation and Digital Forensics”.

•      Goal: To enable Police Officers, State Cyber Cells, Law Enforcement Agencies, Prosecutors and Judicial Officers to acquire requisite skills to deal with Cyber Forensics cases efficiently & effectively as per the Indian Cyber Law while adopting global best practices, standards and guidelines.

 

3.APEDA SIGNS MOU WITH ICAR-IIMR TO BOOST EXPORT

•      The Agricultural and Processed Food Product Export Development Authority (APEDA) has signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR)- Indian Institute of Millet Research(IIMR) to increase export production by increasing quality and processing.

•      Objective:  To increase the export production with necessary links in supply chain, technical warehouses , clinical research and awareness.

2.MIB CONSTITUTES COMMITTEE UNDER ASHOK KUMAR TANDON

•      Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) constituted a 11-member committee to review the existing guidelines of the Journalist Welfare Scheme (JWS).

•      The Member of Prasar Bharati Board, Ashok Kumar Tandon, is named as its chairperson.

•      The media domain has lost a large number of journalists due to COVID-19, therefore it is required to revise the quantum of ex-gratia payment in case of death as well as in other cases under the scheme.

1. INDIA’S 1ST INDIGENOUSLY DEVELOPED NADS

•      The Indian Navy has signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the manufacture and supply of India’s 1st indigenously developed Naval Anti Drone System (NADS) with both ‘hard kill’ and ‘soft kill capabilities.

•      The NADS has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured by BEL.

 

2. AGRICULTURE EXPERTS OF BIMSTEC COUNTRIES 2021 MEETING

•      India virtually hosted the 8th Meeting of Agriculture Experts of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Countries 2021 Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi.

•      The meeting was chaired by Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Director General (DG) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Secretary (Department of Agricultural Research-DARE).

 

3. WORLD’S LARGEST & TALLEST OBSERVATION WHEEL

•      The World’s largest and tallest observation wheel named ‘Ain Dubai’ is set to be opened in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 21st October 2021.

•      The ain Dubai is located at Bluewaters Island.

•      The Ain Dubai is around 2 times taller than the London Eye, which will take the visitors to a height of 250 meters.

 

4. INDIA’S GDP IN Q1 FY22 GROW BY 20.1%

•      As per the data of the National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first quarter of the financial year 2021-22 (Q1 FY22) (i.e. April to June 2021) grew by 20.1 percent as compared to a contraction of 24.4 (-24.4) percent in Q1 FY21.

•      GDP at Constant Prices (2011-12): It is estimated at Rs 32.38 lakh crore in Q1 FY22, as against Rs 26.95 lakh crore in Q1 FY21 (a growth of 20.1 percent).

•      Gross Value Added (GVA) at Constant Prices: It is estimated at Rs 30.48 lakh crore in Q1 FY22, as against Rs 25.66 lakh crore in Q1 of FY21 (a growth of 18.8 percent).

2.UNSC ADOPTS RESOLUTION ON AFGHANISTAN

•      United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the 15-Nation body has adopted a strong resolution on Afghanistan under India’s Presidency.

•      China & Russia abstained from voting on the resolution.

•      The resolution demands not to use Afghan territory to threaten or attack any country or to shelter or train terrorists, or to plan or to finance terrorist acts.

•      Also PM Narendra Modi has constituted a high-level group comprising External Affairs Minister (EAM) Jaishankar, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval & Other Senior officials to monitor the ground situation in Afghanistan with a focus on India’s Immediate priorities.

 

3.PHONE PE – RECEIVED APPROVAL FROM RBI TO OPERATED AA

•      PhonePe Account Aggregator Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the PhonePe Group, received in-principle approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to operate as an Account Aggregator (AA) to share financial information.

•      PhonePe has also received an insurance ‘broking licence’ from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

1.INDIA’S 1ST GREEN HYDROGEN ELECTROLYSER FACTORY

•      Ohmium India Private Limited, a Subsidiary of Ohmium International Sets up Green Hydrogen Electrolyser manufacturing Gigafactory in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

•      This is India’s 1st Green Hydrogen (H2) Electrolyser unit.

•      The factory will produce Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Hydrogen electrolysers.

•      Green Hydrogen-Hydrogen produced by electrolysis using renewable energy or non- fossil sources.

•      It has no carbon footprint.

•      It is set to play a major role & build on the rapid increase of renewable resources across the world.

•      Other types of Hydrogen are Brown Hydrogen (created through coal gasification), Blue Hydrogen (produced from Carbon Capture Usage & Storage), Grey Hydrogen (formed from splitting of Hydrogen & CO2)

 

2.PM DEDICATED ‘RENOVATED JALLIANWALA BAGH SMARAK’ TO NATION

•      PM Narendra Modi virtually dedicated the renovated complex of Jallianwala Bagh Smarak at Amritsar in Punjab to the nation.

•      PM also inaugurated the Museum Galleries at the Smarak.

•      4 Museum galleries have been created through adaptive reuse of redundant and underutilised buildings.

•      India decided to observe 14th August every year as ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’.

•      13th April 2021 marked the 102nd anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.

 

3.MOCA NOTIFIES THE DRONE RULES, 2021

•      The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has notified the Drone Rules, 2021 replacing the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) rules, 2021.

•      Several approvals abolished: Unique Authorisation Number (UAN), Unique Prototype Identification Number, Certificate of manufacturing and Airworthiness, Certificate of conformance, Certificate of maintenance, Import clearance, etc has been abolished under the new rules.

•      Total number of forms to be filled has been reduced from 25 to 5.

 

4.“VRIKSHAROPAN ABHIYAN – 2021”

•      Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Coal virtually launched the “Vriksharopan Abhiyan – 2021” as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.

•      Around 300 plantation sites around the coalfield across India will be connected through this Abhiyan.

•      Vriksharopan Abhiyan – 2021 includes environmental sustainability in mining operations and enable the coal sector to obtain a social and environmental licence to operate.

•      Under the “Go Greening” drive, coal Public sector undertakings(PSUs) of the Ministry of Coal has targeted to cover 2385 hectares of area under bio-reclamation/plantation.

 

5.INDIA’S EXPORT TO ASEAN

•      The Union Minister of State(MoS) for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel inaugurated “India-ASEAN(Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Engineering Partnership Summit 2021’’ which was organised by Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) in association with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Commerce .

•      The US 400 billion merchandise export target was announced in the budget of the financial year 2021-22.

•      Focus areas- Industry 4.0, Integration of MSME(Micro Small and Medium Enterprises).

•      The government of Tamil Nadu joined as a ‘Partner State’ while the Haryana government joined as the ‘Focus State’.

 

6.TOKYO 2020 SUMMER PARALYMPIC GAMES

•      The 16th Edition of Paralympic Games is taking place in Tokyo, Japan from 24th August to 5th September, 2021.

•      A total of 22 sports are scheduled. For the 1st time, Badminton and Taekwondo will be making their debut at the 2020 Paralympic Games by replacing Sailing & 7-a-side Football.

•      The official Mascot is ‘Someity’

•      The Paralympic Games symbol of the “Three Agitos” has been installed on a giant floating platform in the Tokyo Bay area.

•      The 94-tonne steel monument stands 17.5 m tall, is 23.4 m long and 2m wide.

•      Tek Chand (Shot put Thrower) was the flag-bearer of India in the opening ceremony of the Tokyo paralympics.

INDIA’S PERFORMANCE

•      India has won 8 Medals– 2 Gold, 4 Silver & 2 Bronze till August 30

•      Avani Lekhara wins Gold Medal in Shooting:Avani Lekhara  (Rajasthan) has won the Gold Medal in the Women’s 10 m Air Rifle Standing 1 (SH 1) Shooting event by scoring 249.6 in the final.

•      Avani became the 1st Indian Woman to win a Gold Medal at the Paralympics & 4th Indian Gold medal at the Paralympics.

JAVELIN THROW:

i.Sumit Antil wins Gold Medal in Javelin Throw, F-46: Sumit Antil (Haryana) has won the Gold Medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw F-64 event by throwing a distance of 68.55 m in the finals.

ii.Devendra Jhajharia & Sundar Singh Gurjar wins SIlver & Bronze respectively in Javelin Throw, F-46

•      National Sports Day is annually observed across India on 29th August to commemorate the birth anniversary of Olympian and Indian Hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand, who is popularly known as the “Hockey Wizard” and “the Magician”.

•      On the occasion of the National Sports Day 2021, Union Minister Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur launched the Fit India Mobile app, India’s most comprehensive fitness app, at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Delhi.

•      The United Nations(UN)’s International Day against Nuclear Tests is annually observed across the globe on 29th August to create awareness about the hazards of testing nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosions and the need to end nuclear tests and achieve a nuclear-weapon-free world.
