1. 8 TOY MANUFACTURING CLUSTERS WORTH RS 2,300 CRORE

      Central Government has approved 8 toy manufacturing clusters at a cost of Rs 2,300 crore viz. three clusters in Madhya Pradesh, two in Rajasthan, and one each in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

      This decision has been taken on the lines of “National Action Plan for Indian Toy Story” that seeks to reduce import dependence of toys which was around $1.5 billion in FY2020 of which 90% of imports was from China and Taiwan.

      The plan is to have 35 toy clusters under the scheme.

 

2. INDIA’S FIRST DIGITAL UNIVERSITY

      State government of Kerala, on the line of its Digital Transformation Initiatives announced in Budget 2021, has launched India’s first Digital University, Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology (KUDSIT) in Technocity at Mangalapuram in Thiruvananthapuram.

      The Governor of Kerala, Arif Mohammed Khan inaugurated the KUDSIT through videoconferencing.

 

3. INTENSIFIED MISSION INDRADHANUSH (IMI) 3.0

      Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) virtually launched Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 3.0. 

      He also released the Operational Guidelines for IMI 3.0 and the awareness material/IEC package developed as part of the campaign.

      The focus of the IMI 3.0 is to reach children and pregnant women with the 12 Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) under Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) who have missed these vaccine doses during the COVID-19.

 

4. RBI HAS BROUGHT STATE BANK OF SIKKIM UNDER ITS REGULATORY PURVIEW

      The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has brought the State Bank of Sikkim under its regulatory purview.

      The bank only operates within Sikkim and is wholly-owned by the state government.

      With this regulatory purview, the ownership structure of the bank will not be changed and will be regulated by the RBI on a par with other banks.

 

5. RBI PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS ON CYBER FRAUDS

      RBI has roped in Punjabi Singer-Rapper Viruss to drive its public awareness campaigns on cyber frauds.

      RBI in its official twitter handle, launched the campaign, featuring Viruss.

      This is part of its awareness campaign ‘RBI Kehta Hai’: Jaankar Baniye, Satark Rahiye!(RBI Says: Be knowledgeable, Be cautious) that was launched in 2016 and has been running in social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook and Youtube .

 

6. SUPPLY SHIP NAMED AFTER S.S. KATHERINE JOHNSON

      NASA launched the Space Station Supply Ship, Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus capsule named after S.S. Katherine Johnson, to the International Space Station (ISS).

      The numbers of S.S. Katherine Johnson, a Black NASA mathematician, featured in the 2016 movie “Hidden Figures”, contributed to the flight of John Glenn on 20th February 1962, who became the first American to orbit the world.

 

7. KHELO INDIA UNIVERSITY GAMES IN 2021

      Karnataka is set to host the 2nd Edition of Khelo India University Games (KIUG) in 2021.

      The games will be hosted in Jain University, Bengaluru and other venues in Karnataka in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

      KIUG is the largest University level sports competition in India.

      The KIUG 2021 will see the addition of 2 new native sports namely ‘Yogasana’ & ‘Mallakhamb’ in the medal events.

      The total number of medal events/sports will be 19.

 

8. 2021 AUSTRALIAN OPEN

      The 109th Edition of Australian Open (53rd in Open Era) took place at Melbourne, Australia.

      Chronologically, it is the First Grand Slam event (out of 4) of each Year in both the Men’s & Women’s Tour. 

      It takes place on a Hard surface (called as Hard Courts).

9. BOOK ‘AGRICULTURE ACTS 2020’

      Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani released a book “Agriculture Acts 2020” written by Justice A.K. Rajan, former judge of the Madras High Court.

      The book is about the three controversial Central farm laws, which resulted in a months-long massive protest by farmers in New Delhi.

 

10. INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY

      The United Nations (UN)’s International Mother Language Day is annually observed across the globe on 21st February to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.

      The theme of the 2021 International Mother Language Day is “Fostering multilingualism for inclusion in education and society”.

 

11. PUNJAB CABINET APPROVES MISSION ‘LAL LAKIR’ IN ALL VILLAGES

      Cabinet of Punjab chaired by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has approved the implementation of mission ‘Lal Lakir’ to enable villagers living within the ‘Lal Lakir’ to monetise their property rights and for availing benefits provided by the government departments, institutions and banks.

      Lal Lakir refers to land that is a part of the village habitation and is used for non-agriculture purposes only.

1. KHAJURAHO DANCE FESTIVAL

      47th edition of Khajuraho Dance Festival at Khajuraho, a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Heritage site in Madhya Pradesh.

      The temples at Khajuraho were constructed during the Chandella dynasty, between 950 and 1050.

      Currently there are around 20 temples remains, which belong to two different religions Hinduism and Jainism.

 

2. RBI PUTS WITHDRAWAL CAP ON DECCAN URBAN CO-OPERATIVE BANK LTD.

      RBI on considering the present liquidity position of Deccan Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd., has imposed a withdrawal cap of Rs 1,000 on the customers of the bank.

      But, customers are allowed to set off loans against deposits subject to conditions.

 

3. INDIA’S BRICS 2021 WEBSITE

      External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar launched  India’s BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa)2021 website(https://brics2021.gov.in/about-brics.html).

      In addition to this, he also soft launched the upgraded facilities at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan that will serve as the Secretariat for BRICS Summit.

      India assumed the presidency of BRICS for 2021.

      Russia was the chair of BRICS for 2020.

 

4. ‘ARROW-4’ – AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM MISSILE

      Israel Missile Defense Organisation & United States Missile Defense Agency have commenced work on the development of ‘Arrow-4’ anti-ballistic missiles which will be part of Israel’s multi-layered Ballistic Missile Shield.

      Arrow-4 Missile Shield will be an advanced version of the existing Arrow-2 & Arrow-3 Interceptors.

 

5. BOOK “RASHTRA PRATHAM – 82 VARSHON KI SWARNIM GATHA”

      Amit Shah, Home Minister of India released a book titled “Rashtra Pratham – 82 varshon ki Swarnim Gatha” (Nation First – The Golden Story of 82 Years), which chronicles the history of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) since its raising in 1939. 

      The book was compiled by historian Dr Bhuwan Kumar Jha of Delhi University.

 

6. WORLD DAY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE 2021

      The United Nations(UN)’s World Day of Social Justice is annually observed across the globe on 20th February to promote and ensure Social justice in letter and spirit in the world where the social inequality persists.

 

7. IKEA TO INVEST RS.5500 CRORE IN UP

      Government of Uttar Pradesh(UP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IKEA, a Swedish furniture and home applications company, which is set to invest Rs.5500 crore in the state during the next 5 years.

      The government of Uttar Pradesh has allocated 47,833 square meters of land in Noida for IKEA Outlet, which will be one of the largest IKEA outlets in the World (at present the largest IKEA outlet is in Stockholm, Sweden which is 55,221 square meters).

1. ‘NURTURING NEIGHBOURHOODS CHALLENGE’

      Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) shortlisted 25 Cities for the ‘Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge’ Cohort, the challenge is hosted by the Smart Cities Mission, MoHUA in collaboration with  Bernard van Leer Foundation (BvLF), Urban95 of BvLF & technical partner World Resources Institute (WRI) India.

      ‘Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge’ is a 3-year challenge that will help Indian cities to  adopt & Implement neighbourhood-level pilot projects in public space, mobility, and access to services to enhance the physical and psychological health of young children (0-5 years old) & their caregivers.

 

2. CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE ON HYDROGEN

      Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) with Greenstat Hydrogen Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Greenstat Norway for setting up a Centre of Excellence on Hydrogen (CoE-H).

      It will be set up through Indo-Norwegian Hydrogen Cluster companies/organizations which will facilitate the transfer and sharing of technology, know-how and experience for  R&D projects in Green and Blue Hydrogen.

 

3. ‘PASSEX’ EXERCISE IN ARABIAN SEA

      Indian Navy conducted a Bilateral Military Exercise ‘PASSEX’ (Passage Exercise) with the Indonesian Navy in the Arabian Sea.

      The main aim of the exercise is to increase interoperability & strengthen the Bilateral Maritime Cooperation between the two navies.

      Indian Navy Ship INS Talwar & Indonesian Navy’s multirole Corvette KRI Bung Tomo participated in the exercise.

 

4. ‘2020 TREE CITY OF THE WORLD’

      Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations(UN) has recognised Hyderabad (Telangana) as one of the ‘2020 Tree City of the World’ for its contributions and commitment towards growing and maintaining urban forest.

      Hyderabad became the first and only city in India to be recognised as the Tree City of the World.

 

5. 2020 TOKYO OLYMPIC PRESIDENT

      Seiko Hashimoto, seven time Olympian (speed skater and cyclist) who was serving as the Minister of State for the  Minister of State for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games became the president of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

      2020 Tokyo Olympic is officially the Games of the 32nd Olympiad.

      It is to be held from23 July 2021 to 8 August 2021.

      DRDO successfully conducted the trials of HELINA (Helicopter Launched Nag) (Army version) & Dhruvastra (Air Force Version) of the Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) from Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) platform in Pokhran, Rajasthan.

      HELINA  is a 3rd Generation, Lock on Before Launch (LOBL) Fire & Forget ATGMS.

1. ‘COMMON RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT HUB’ AT CDRI

      Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated ‘Common Research and Technology Development Hub (CRTDH)’ – a Research Facility at CSIR-CDRI (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Central Drug Research Institute), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) on occasion of the institute’s 70th Annual Day Celebrations.

      CRTDH aims to provide support to hospitals & Pharma Industry, MSMEs and Academia for conducting advanced research in the field of Drug discovery.

 

2. PM LAUNCHES ‘MAHABAHU-BRAHMAPUTRA’ PROGRAMME

      PM Narendra Modi virtually launched the ‘Mahabahu-Brahmaputra’ programme & laid the foundation stone for 2 Bridges.

      The 19.282 Km ‘Dhubri Phulbari’ 4-lane bridge will connect Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari in Meghalaya.

      It will be constructed on the River of Brahmaputra.

      ‘Majuli’ Bridge is an 8 Km long Two-Lane bridge on the River Brahmaputra, it will connect Neematighat (on Jorhat side) & Kamalabari (on Majuli side).

      ‘Mahabahu-Brahmaputra’ Programme will strengthen water connectivity across the region through the waters of the River Brahmaputra & Barak.

      The Total cost of the programme is INR 3, 231 Crore.

 

3. GOVT TO INFUSE RS 1,500 CRORE INTO EXIM BANK

      The government has decided to infuse Rs 1,500 crore capital into Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) in FY 22.

      This equity support/subscription is to maximise the paid up capital of the bank to the level of its authorised capital.

      This amount is Rs 200 crore higher than the amount(Rs 1,300 crore) earmarked by the government to be infused in the bank in FY 21.

      The government had doubled the authorised capital of the bank from Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 20,000 crore in 2019.

 

4. ASIA ENVIRONMENTAL ENFORCEMENT AWARD 2020

      Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change(MoEF&CC), Government of India was selected as one of the winners of the 5th Asia Environmental Enforcement Award, 2020 by the United Nations Environment Programme(UNEP).

      WCCB has won the award under the Innovation category.

      WCCB was selected as a winner for its contribution against transboundary environmental crime.

 

5. TATA GROUP TO ACQUIRE 68% STAKE IN BIGBASKET

      Tata Group has signed a deal to acquire 68%  stake in bigbasket for about  Rs 9,500 crore.

      The stake will be acquired by Tata Digital, a subsidiary of Tata Sons.

      Post acquisition, the enterprise value of BigBasket becomes more than Rs 13,500 crore.

      Tata Communications has partnered with Google Cloud in India to drive cloud adoption and transform Indian businesses.
