1.         DIGI YATRA LAUNCHED FOR 3 AIRPORTS IN INDIA 

·           Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) launched ‘Digi Yatra’  for three airports in India, namely New Delhi, Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Bengaluru (Karnataka).

·           DigiYatra was designed to use Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) to achieve contactless, seamless passenger processing at airports.

·           It will be followed by 4 airports by March 2023: Hyderabad (Telangana), Kolkata (West Bengal), Pune (Maharashtra), and Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh).

·           Currently, the service is only available to domestic flight passengers.

·           The project envisions any traveller passing through multiple airport checkpoints using paperless and contactless processing, establishing their identity with facial features and linking it to their boarding card.

 

2.         EX AGNI WARRIOR 2022 BETWEEN ARMED FORCES OF SINGAPORE & INDIA

·           The 12th edition of Agni Warrior (XAW) 2022, a bilateral exercise between the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Indian Army (IA) was held at Field Firing Ranges, Devlali in Maharashtra

·           Initiated in 2004, XAW is conducted as a part of the Army Bilateral Agreement, and testament to the long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and India.

 

3.         INDIAN ARMY TRAINS KITES TO DESTROY ENEMY DRONES

·           Indian Army forces are training Kites to prey on enemy drones in a first-of-its-kind operation. The military conducts operations with trained birds and dogs.Indian army used a kite named ‘Arjun’.

·           During the ongoing Indo-US joint training exercise YuddhAbhyas in Auli, Uttarakhand, the Indian Army showed the use of Kites to prey on hostile drones.

 

4.         RBI ADOPTED FOUR-TIERED REGULATORY FRAMEWORK FOR UCBS

·           The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) revises Framework of Categorization of Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs) for Regulatory Purposes.

·           This revision will be applicable to all Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks w.e.f December 1, 2022.

·           Tier-1 UCBs will continue to maintain a minimum CRAR (Capital to Risk Weighted Assets) of 9% on an ongoing basis.Tier- 2,3,4 UCBs will maintain a minimum CRAR of 12% on an ongoing basis.

·           RBI also eases rules for foreign branches or subsidiaries of banks or All India Financial Institutions (AIFIs) to deal in financial products that are not permitted in India w.e.f. December 1, 2022.

·           A letters of cooperation was exchanged between the RBI and Financial Services Agency (FSA), Japan in the field of Central Counter Parties (CCPs) to improve mutual cooperation.

 

5.         2022 BURGUNDY PRIVATE HURUN INDIA 500

·           The the second edition of the list that ranks the 500 most valuable firms in India, was published by Burgundy Private, Axis Bank’s Private Banking Business, and Hurun India.

·           According to the list, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is the most valuable listed company in India, with a valuation of Rs 17.2 lakh crore, up 3.6% from 2021.

·           Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is ranked 2nd on this list with a valuation of Rs. 11.7 lakh crore, and HDFC Bank is ranked 3rd with a valuation of Rs. 8.3 lakh crore.

 

6.         KAMALADEVI CHATTOPADHYAY NIF PRIZE 2022

·           The KamaladeviChattopadhyay NIF Book Prize 2022 was awarded to ‘The Chipko Movement: A People’s Movement’, a book on the popular forest conservation campaign Chipko Movement written by a historian and an activist ShekharPathak.

·           The book, ‘The Chipko Movement: A People’s Movement’, has been translated from Hindi by ManishaChaudhry.

·           TheChipko movement (or ChipkoAndolan) was a non-violent, social and ecological movement by rural villagers, particularly women that took place in 1973 in India.

 

7.         INDIA ASSUMES UN SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENCY FOR DECEMBER

·           India assumed the Presidency of the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) for the month of December, the second time in its two-year tenure as an elected member of the Council in 2021-22.

·           India had earlier assumed the UNSC Presidency in August 2021.

·           On 14th December 2022 The high-level open debate on the theme ‘Maintenance of International Peace and Security: New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism’ will be conducted, which will encourage the UN members to work on reforms in the current multilateral architecture with the UN at its centre.

·           On 15th December 2022, a high-level briefing on the theme ‘Threats to International Peace and Security Caused by Terrorist Acts: Global Approach to Counter Terrorism – Challenges and Way Forward’ will take place, which helps in building a consensus on the principles of a global counter-terror architecture.

8.         WORLD COMPUTER LITERACY DAY 2022 – DECEMBER 2

·           World Computer Literacy Day is annually observed on December 2 to raise public knowledge of computers and encourage the development of technological skills, particularly among children and women in India.

·           World Computer Literacy Day was established by an Indian computer company, the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), in 2001 to mark NIIT’s 20th anniversary.

 

9.         NATIONAL POLLUTION CONTROL DAY 2022 – DECEMBER 2

·           National Pollution Control Day is annually observed across India on December 2 to honour and commemorate the people who lost their lives in the Bhopal Gas Tragedy on the 2nd and 3rd of December 1984.

·           2nd December 2022 marks the 38th anniversary of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy.

·           In India, air pollution is responsible for 7 million annual deaths, of which 4 million are caused by indoor air pollution.

·           India’s 1st major industrial disaster, the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, was a gas leak from the Union Carbide Plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on December 2nd and 3rd, 1984.

·           The insecticide plant owned by Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL), the Indian division of the American company Union Carbide Corporation, released about 45 tonnes of the hazardous chemical Methyl isocyanate (MIC).

·           Nearly 25000 people were killed and around 6 lakh victims sustained injuries.

 

10.      INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ABOLITION OF SLAVERY 2022 – DECEMBER 2

·           United Nations (UN)’s International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is annually observed across the globe on December 2 to raise public awareness of the need to combat modern forms of slavery such as child labour, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation.

·           International Day for the Abolition of Slavery was declared to be observed on December 2 to mark the UNGA’s adoption of the UN Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others.

1.         53RD EDITION OF INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF INDIA - GOA

·           IFFI is an annual film festival, which has been organized with the philosophy of “VasudhaivaKutumbakam” (the world is one family) at its core.

·           The ‘Silver Peacock’ for ‘Best Director’ was awarded to Nader Saeivar for his work on the Turkish film “No End” (Bi Payan).

·           The ‘Silver Peacock’ for ‘Best Actor (Male)’ was awarded to VahidMobasseri, the lead actor in the movie ‘No End’.

2.         INDIA’S MATERNAL MORTALITY RATIO DECLINES TO 97 PER LAKH LIVE BIRTHS IN 2018-20

·           A Special Bulletin on Maternal Mortality in India 2018-20 was released by the office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India.

·           As per it, the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has declined from 130 per lakh live births in 2014-16 to 97 per lakh live births in 2018-20.

·           Assam has the highest MMR of 195 while Kerala has the lowest of 19 per lakh live births.

·           The highest number of maternal deaths nationally i.e. 32% happened in the 20 to 24 year age group followed by 30% in 25-29 years and 20% in 30 to 34 years.

 

3.         UNESCO RECOMMENDED TO PLACE AUSTRALIA’S GREAT BARRIER REEF ON ‘IN DANGER’ LIST

·           The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) released a report recommending Australia’s Great Barrier Reef (GBR) on a list of world heritage sites in danger.

·           It is world’s biggest coral reef ecosystem.

4.         UNCTAD’S REVIEW OF MARITIME TRANSPORT FOR 2022

·           According to the “Review of Maritime Transport – 2022” published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the pace of global shipping activity is set to decrease in 2023 due to the impacts of economic turmoil, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia and the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the outlook for trade.

·           The report has estimated that the global maritime trade growth would moderate to 1.4% in 2022 and remain at the same level in 2023.

·           The report also compares the estimated growth of 3.2% in 2021 and overall shipment volume of 11 billion tonnes, versus a 3.8% decline in 2020.

5.         WHO RENAMES MONKEYPOX AS ‘MPOX’,

·           The World Health Organisation (WHO) has renamed monkeypox as mpox, citing concerns the original name of the decades-old animal disease could be construed as discriminatory and racist.

·           So far, there have been more than 80,000 cases identified in dozens of countries that had not previously reported the smallpox-related disease.

 

6.         SEBI HIKES DEBT FUNDS’ LIMIT TO 12% IN SINGLE ISSUER SECURITIES

·           The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has increased the investment limit of mutual funds (MFs) in debt instruments issued by a single issuer to 12% of the Net Asset Value (NAV) from 10% w.e.f. November 29, 2022 on all new schemes.

·           The single-issuer instruments include money market securities and non-money market securities re-rated investment grade by a credit rating agency.

·           MFs require prior approval of the boards of Trustees and Directors of the Asset Management Company (AMC) for the enhanced limit.

·           MF schemes cannot invest more than 10% of its  NAV in debt and money market securities rated AAA, and 8% of a scheme’s NAV in securities rated AA.

·           Similarly, it can invest only 6% of NAV in debt rated A and below.

·           The investment limits can be extended by 2% of the scheme’s NAV with prior approval of the Board of Trustees and AMC board

 

7.         TATA GROUP & SINGAPORE AIRLINES AGREES TO MERGE AIR INDIA AND VISTARA 

·           Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Tata Sons (Tata) agreed to merge Air India and Vistara, with SIA also investing Rs 20,585 million (SD 360 million, USD 250 million) in Air India as part of the transaction.

·           As a result, SIA would hold a 25.1% share in an enlarged Air India group that would have a significant presence in all important market segments.

·           Air India has received its 1st Boeing 777-200 LR (Long Range) Vihaan, which means “dawn of a new era”, is the name given to the aircraft with registration VT-AEF, as per the induction plan.

 

8.         MELTWATER CHAMPIONS CHESS TOUR 2022

·           World Champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway defeated Poland’s  Jan-Krzysztof Duda in the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour (MCCT) finals 2022 held at the SHACK15 venue in San Francisco, United States of America(USA).

·           MCCT 2022 is a series of 9 online chess tournaments that started on 19th February 2022 and ended on 20th Novmber 2022.

 

9.         NATIONAL ORGAN DONATION DAY 2022 – NOVEMBER 27 

·           The National Organ Donation Day is annually observed across India on 27th November to promote organ donation and to recognise the contribution of organ donors

·           World Organ Donation Day is annually observed across the globe on 13th August. 

·           The observance of National Organ Donation Day is led by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), a National level organization under the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MoHFW).

 

10.      23RD HORNBILL FESTIVAL IN NAGALAND 

·           The Hornbill Festival, the biggest and most important festival in Northeast India, is annually observed from 1st – 10th December at the Naga Heritage Village of Kisama located at a distance of 12 km from Kohima, in Nagaland.

·           The festival derives its name from the bird named Hornbill. It is called the festival of festivals.

11.      INDIA TO RECEIVE OVER RECORD $100 BN IN REMITTANCES IN 2022: WORLD BANK

·           The World Bank in its 37th Migration and Development Brief 2022 titled ‘Remittances Brave Global Headwinds, Special Focus: Climate Migration’ stated that India is all set to receive more than USD 100 bn in yearly remittances in 2022.

·           This means migrant workers from India will send a record USD 100 bn in 2022 to their home country (India), despite global headwinds like rising prices.

·           This is for the first time a single country will receive more than USD 100 bn in yearly remittances.

·           India remains the world’s top recipient of remittances.

 

12.      TREE TAG BAGS AWARD IN ‘CLIMATHON-2022’ 

·           Tree Tag, a green start-up founded by climate-conscious individuals from Kerala, striving to reduce carbon emissions through tech-integrated afforestation projects, has won the Climathon 2022, the hackathon held at Kerala Technology Innovation Zone (KTIZ), Kochi, Kerala

·           The Tree Tag team won the award under the category of Life On Land, addressing the problem statement such as ‘monitoring and protecting existing forest eco-systems’.

·           The Wildlife Trust of India has selected the Man-Animal Conflict Mitigation Team, an 8-member team, from Chinnakkanal (Munnar forest division), Kerala, for its award this year (2022) for reducing incidents of man-animal conflict in the region.

 

13.      ISRAELI NAVY SUCCESSFUL TEST FIRED LONG-RANGE INTERCEPTOR MISSILE

·           The Israeli Navy successfully tested the first-of-its-kind long-range interceptor missile against an “advanced” cruise missile LRAD, part of the Barak MX defense system.

·           LRAD was launched from a Sa’ar 6-class corvette INS Magen, after detecting a target that resembled an advanced cruise missile and destroyed it.

·           LARD was developed by the Israeli Aerospace Industries and the Defense Ministry’s research and development division, known by the Hebrew acronym  MAFAT.

·           Barak LRAD is parallel to the Indian BARAK 8. 

 

14.      WORLD AIDS DAY 2022 – DECEMBER 1 

·           The United Nations(UN)’s World Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) Day is annually observed across the globe on 1st December to create awareness about AIDS and to unite people across the globe to show support the people living with AIDS and affected by HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus).

·           UNAIDS – United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS leads the campaigning for World AIDS Day since its creation in 2004.

·           The theme of World AIDS Day 2022 is “Equalize”. 

·           World AIDS Day, the first-ever international day for global health, was founded in 1988.
