1. RECENT APPROVALS BY CENTRAL GOVERNMENT – APRIL 12 2017
i. The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi has approved signing of Framework of Understanding on Cooperation in the Hydrocarbon Sector with Bangladesh.
ii. A Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of justice between India and the North African country, Tunisia has been approved by the Union Cabinet.
iii. The judgment pertaining to Target Plus Scheme under Foreign Trade Policy 2004-09 was passed by Supreme Court on October 27, 2015.
iv. Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy will be built at a cost of over Rs. 655 cr.
v. Cabinet approves setting up of a Special Purpose Vehicle to be called Government e-Marketplace.

2. AUSTRALIAN PM TURNBULL ARRIVES IN NEW DELHI ON 4-DAY VISIT
i. Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull was on an official visit to India from 9th-12th April. This was Turnbull’s 1st visit to India after he assumed office in September 2015.
ii. India and Australia inked 6 pacts after comprehensive talks between PM Narendra Modi and visiting Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull in New Delhi.
iii. Indian PM Narendra Modi and Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull jointly inaugurated TERI-Deakin Nanobiotechnology Centre through a video conference.
iv. Union Minister for Youth Affairs, Vijay Goel and Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull launched Sports Partnership in Mumbai with an aim to increase cooperation in sports among India and Australia.


3. ANDHRA PRADESH CM CHANDRABABU NAIDU RELAUNCHES ADARANA
i. The 191st birth anniversary of social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule is being celebrated for the 1st time as a state function.
ii. Chandrababu Naidu announced the re-launch of ‘Adarana’, a scheme for improving traditional occupations.
iii. It includes modern tools, marketing, technology and financial support that are for the artisans.
iv. It also provides employment in the rural areas those pursuing traditional occupations to raise their income levels.

4. GOVERNMENT CONSTITUTES AN INTER-DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE CHAIRED BY SPECIAL SECRETARY (Economic Affairs) to examine existing framework regarding Virtual currencies
i. Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs has made an Inter- Disciplinary Committee chaired by Dinesh Sharma, Special Secretary (Economic Affairs) and representatives from Department of Economic Affairs.
ii. A committee of government and central bank officials in India is set to propose new regulations related to digital currencies or virtual currencies.
iii. It includes representatives from NITI Aayog a government think tank and the SBI the country’s largest bank. The committee will take stock of the present status of Virtual Currencies both in India and globally.
iv. It also examines the existing global regulatory and legal structure that governs Virtual Currencies. It also suggests measures for dealing with such Virtual Currencies.

5. CISCO LAUNCHES 5TH GLOBAL CYBER RANGE LAB IN GURUGRAM
i. US-based tech giant Cisco has launched its 5th global cyber range lab in Gurugram, Haryana with an aim to train Indian firms and government agencies on real-world cyber attacks. The facility was inaugurated by Gulshan Rai, National Cyber Security Coordinator.
ii. Cisco has 4 other such labs in Australia. Cisco will also launch a Security Operations Centre in Pune, its 4th after the US, Poland and Japan in the next few months to provide a broad range of services, including monitoring of threats and its end-to-end management for enterprise needs.
iii. It will be linked to other Cisco SOCs across the world. These centres are part of Cisco’s USD 100 million investment commitment to India.

6. MAHABALESHWARA MS APPOINTED AS NEW MD AND CEO OF KARNATAKA BANK
i. MS Mahabaleshwara is appointed as MD and CEO of the Karnataka Bank, one of the leading private sectors banks in South India.
ii. Mahabaleshwara becomes MD and CEO of the bank for a period of 3 years as per the approval received from Reserve Bank of India.

7. JUSTICE GITA MITTAL SET TO TAKE OVER AS ACTING CHIEF JUSTICE OF DELHI HC
i. Justice Gita Mittal, the senior-most judge of Delhi High Court has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. She will assume charge of the Delhi High Court with effect from April 14, a day after current Chief Justice Gorla Rohini retires.
ii. Justice Mittal was appointed as Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in 2004 and was made permanent in 2006.
iii. Since August, 2008, Justice Mittal has been a member of the Governing Council of the National Law University.
iv. She is presently chairing the court committees on the Delhi High Court’s Mediation and Conciliation Centre as well as the committee monitoring the Implementation of Judicial Guidelines for Dealing with Cases of Sexual Offences and Child Witnesses.

8. DALAI LAMA RELEASES BOOK ‘OCEAN AND BLUE MOUNTAINS’
i. The Dalai Lama released a book named – ‘Ocean and Blue Mountains’ published by department of Karmik and Adhyatmik Affairs in presence of CM Pema Khandu and other dignitaries.
ii. The book title refers to ‘Ocean’ as His Holiness and ‘Blue Mountains’ as the people of Arunachal Pradesh, and is a collection of memoirs of the special bond shared between the two.
iii. The Dalai Lama also released a book titled – ‘Crossing of the Frontiers’ describing his exile route from Tibet to India.

9. SALMAN KHAN RELEASES ASHA PAREKH’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY ‘THE HIT GIRL’
i. The autobiography of Asha Parekh, The Hit Girl, has been launched by Salman Khan with well known author and journalist Khalid Mohamed who was the co-author of the biography.
ii. Salman gave a speech and insisted that today’s girls need to learn from these legends. Our generation has lost that quality while they have supported each other. Their generation lived the cleanest life possible; professionally and personally.
iii. All of her co-artists Dharmendra, Jitendra, Helen, Waheeda Rehman and many more renowned artistes from Bollywood’s glorious era – the 60s and 70s made as special evening.
