1. GOA GOVT TO SIGN MOU UNDER PMBJP FOR SUBSIDISED MEDICINES
i. Goa government has decided to sign memorandum of understanding with the Centre under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana to provide subsidised medicines in the state.
ii. The MoU will be signed in June 2017 in presence of CM of Goa, Mahohar Parrikar. Under this MoU, all pharmacy stores run by Goa State Govt. would be converted into ‘Jan Aushadi Kendra’ in a phased manner.
iii. ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana’ has been launched by Department of Pharmaceuticals, under Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses through special points referred to as Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra.

2. FIRST VIDESH SAMPARK HELD IN TELANGANA
i. 1st outreach programme of the Ministry of External Affairs, ‘Videsh Sampark’ was hosted in Telangana. The conference was held in Hyderabad. It was inaugurated by Gen. V.K. Singh – Minister of State for External Affairs.
ii. The objective of ‘Videsh Sampark’ conference is to involve State Governments in creating awareness on the schemes and initiatives launched by Ministry of External Affairs pertaining to consular and passport services, engagement with overseas Indians, and welfare and protection of overseas Indians.

3. ISKCON’S GOVARDHAN ECO VILLAGE WINS SMART VILLAGE AWARD
i. Maharashtra’s Govardhan Eco Village has won the “Smart Village” award for being a sustainable project in rural Maharashtra.
ii. The India Trade Promotion Organisation’s award was recieved by Nimai Lila Das to Chief Sustainability Officer of Govardhan Eco Village, in New Delhi.
iii. Eco Village was set up by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in adjoining Thane district. It is a farm community and retreat centre spread over a scenic landscape of 100 acres at Galtare in Wada taluka.


4. INDIA CLAIM 2 MEDALS AT WORLD PARA ATHLETICS GRAND PRIX
i. Ramudri Someshwara Rao, who became the fastest Indian blade runner in the recently-concluded 17th National Para Athletics Championships at Jaipur, won a gold medal in the 200m race at World Para Athletics Grand Prix, Beijing. India claimed a gold medal and a bronze medal.
ii. Shot putter Hokato Sema who also won gold at 17th National Para Athletics Championships at Jaipur, won bronze at World Para Athletics Grand Prix, Beijing.

5. RAJNATH SINGH INAUGURATES 2ND NPDRR MEETING IN DELHI
i. Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 2nd meeting of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in New Delhi.
ii. The theme of NPDRR was Disaster Risk Reduction for Sustainable Development: Making India resilient by 2030.
iii. The event was organized by the National Disaster Management Authority and the National Institute of Disaster Management, on various issues of disaster risk reduction.
iv. The meeting will include a Plenary Session, one session on outcomes of pre-events, 4 technical sessions on four priority areas of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, one technical session on monitoring of Sendai Framework and a closing cum valedictory session.

6. ECONOMY TO GROW AT 7.4% IN FY18, SAYS FICCI SURVEY
i. As per latest Economic Outlook Survey by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Indian Economy is expected to grow at 7.4% for the fiscal year 2017-18.
ii. The survey has also mentioned minimum level of 7.0% and maximum level of 7.6%.

7. PAWAN KUMAR CHAMLING CONFERRED WITH FIRST BS SHEKHAWAT AWARD BY PRESIDENT
i. Sikkim CM Pawan Kumar Chamling was conferred with the 1st Bhairon Singh Shekhawat Lifetime Achievement Honour in Public Service by President Pranab Mukherjee.
ii. Main aim of this award is to deliver public service and is to bring change in the life of people and improve their living conditions.

8. NEPALESE WOMAN BREAKS WORLD RECORD FOR MOST EVEREST SUMMITS
i. A 44-year-old Nepalese mountaineer Lhakpa Sherpa has broken her own world record for the most Everest summits by a woman after scaling the world’s tallest peak for the 8th time.
ii. Lhakpa scaled Mt Everest from Tibet side for the 7th time in the last spring season.

9. INDIA’S PERFORMANCE AT ASIAN WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP, NEW DELHI
i. The Asian Wrestling Championship concluded in New Delhi. Indian wrestlers bagged total

10 MEDALS (1 GOLD, 5 SILVER AND 4 BRONZE).
ii. In men’s freestyle category, Iran won the championship title with 71 points, followed by Japan with 55 points and Uzbekistan with 49 points. India finished at 8th position with 33 points.
iii. Among women’s teams, Japan won the title. Indian women’s team finished 2nd.

10. ARJUN MAINI BECOMES 1ST INDIAN TO WIN A GP3 RACE
i. Indian motor racing driver Arjun Maini became the 1st Indian to win a race in the GP3 Series in Barcelona, Spain.
ii. Arjun drives for Jenzer Motorsports and is supported by JK Racing and TVS. After this win, Arjun moved to 3rd place in the driver’s championship standings. Nirei Fukuzumi of Japan is at the 1st place.

11. FORMER PUDUCHERRY CM RAMASWAMY PASSES AWAY
i. Former Puducherry CM Subrahmanyan Ramaswamy passed away in Puducherry.
ii. Subrahmanyan Ramaswamy was the Home Minister in the DMK-CPI coalition ministry from 1969 to 1973.He became CM of AIADMK in 1974 heading the AIADMK-CPI coalition ministry for a brief period.

12. BOOK TITLED “INDIA’S INDIRA: A CENTENNIAL TRIBUTE” LAUNCHED
i. President Mukherjee has attended the programme of launch of a book, India’s Indira- a Centennial Tribute’. It has been edited by Anand Sharma, a senior Congress leader.
ii. The book was unveiled by Vice President Hamid Ansari. Indian National Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was also present at the event. The book has launched on 13th of May to commemorate the birth centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

13. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FAMILIES – MAY 15, 2017
i. The 2017 International Day of Families was observed across the world on 15 May 2017.
ii. The 2017 International Day of Family theme was “Families, education and well-being”.

iii. The day aims to discuss the importance of ‘knowledge and skills’. It focuses on good practices for work-family balance to assist parents in their educational and caregiving roles.
