1. UMA BHARTI LAUNCHES CENTRE’S EXTENSIVE WATER CONSERVATION PROGRAMME FOR DROUGHT PRONE AREAS OF COUNTRY
i. Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Uma Bharti launched Centre’s extensive water conservation programme for drought prone areas of country.
ii. This programme was launched at Bandri in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh in presence of Irrigation Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Narottam Mishra and Dharmpal Sing – Irrigation Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
ii. The programme aims to increase irrigation area and protect water resources in Bundelkhand region, Marathawada region (in Maharashtra) and Kalahandi, Bolangir and Koraput in Odisha.


2. OVER RS 1 LAKH-CR INVESTMENT APPROVED FOR HOUSING OF URBAN POOR
i. Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has sanctioned 1, 00,537 houses for urban poor.
ii. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Programme launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
iii. Its mission is to make Housing for All by 2022 when the Nation completes 75 years of its Independence.

3. KERALA HOSTS COUNTRY’S FIRST-EVER ATHLETICS MEET FOR TRANSGENDER PERSONS
i. Kerala is the 1st state to conduct the country’s first-ever transgender 1-day athletic meet in Thiruvananthapuram.
ii. The event has 132 participants belonging to 12 districts of the state. It was jointly organized by Sexual Gender Minority Federation of Kerala and Kerala sports council.
ii. In this competition total 6 events were conducted includes 100 metres, 200 metres, and 400 metres running; 100x 4 relay race, high jump and shot put.

4. PAYTM LAUNCHES DIGITAL GOLD, MAKES GOLD INVESTMENT DIGITAL
i. Paytm launched ‘Digital Gold’ on its platform to allow customers to buy and sell gold through electronic platform.
ii. It is the 1st wealth management product that was launched in partnership with gold refiner MMTC-PAMP. It offers a real-time international pricing mechanism for the customers.
iii. To avail the benefit of the gold scheme Consumers need to provide KYC details who are transacting over Rs 20000 through Paytm. Customers can buy and sell gold either by money or by weight.
iv. If the consumer wants to sell the gold, MMTC-PAMP will buy the gold back from them and the money will be transferred to the user’s bank account.

5. INDIA’S 1ST BOOK VILLAGE TO COME UP IN MAHARASHTRA’S BHILAR
i. Bhilar village in Maharastra will become India’s 1st ‘book village’.
ii. Under the book village tourists and locals can come and read books, newspapers, magazines stacked at 25 premises.
iii. All these books are going to be available free of cost to the readers. The state has provided several facilities to local villagers to help them enhance the reading experience who visit there.

6. VICE PRESIDENT HAMID ANSARI’S 5 DAYS VISIT TO ARMENIA & POLAND
i. India’s Vice President Hamid Ansari was on an official visit to Armenia and Poland from 24-28 April, 2017. During these visits, he held talks with leaders of the two countries and attended several events.
ii. India signed 3 agreements with Armenia in the field of cultural co-operation, youth affairs and peaceful use of outer space.
iii. India and Poland signed an agreement on the exchange of information and technology in the agriculture sector.

7. WORLD DAY FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH AT WORK: APRIL 28, 2017
i. World Day for Safety and Health at Work is annually observed on 28 April observed by the International Labour Organization since 2003.
ii. Its objective is to create awareness and seek international attention on the magnitude of safety and health problems at work and also to highlight the benefit of creating a safety and health culture to reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries.
iii. 2017 Theme for World Day for Safety and Health at Work was Optimize the collection and use of Occupational Safety and Health data.
iv. Every day, 6,300 people die as a result of occupational accidents. 317 million accidents occur on the job annually; many of these resulting in extended absences from work. The human cost of this daily adversity is vast and the economic burden of poor occupational safety and health practices is estimated at 4% of global Gross Domestic Product each year.
