1. CHHATTISGARH PASSES STATE GST BILL, BECOMES 5TH STATE TO ADOPT TAX REFORM LAW
i. Chhattisgarh passed Goods and Service Tax Bill on April 28th and become the 5th state in the country after Bihar, Telangana, Jharkhand and Rajasthan.
ii. Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh said the bill has been enacted to implement the concept of one nation, one tax, one market. He also stated that the GST Bill is expected at simplifying the tax system and expanding the tax base.
iii. The Bill was tabled earlier in the House by Commerce and Industries Minister Amar Agarwal.

2. GLOBAL MOBILE INTERNET CONFERENCE HELD IN BEIJING
i. The Global Mobile Internet Conference, organized by the Great Wall Associationnheld at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, China.
ii. The GMIC is hosted annually in Beijing and Silicon Valley. Mobile executives, developers, entrepreneurs and investors from around the globe and across platforms attend GMIC each year.
iii. The 1st annual Global Mobile Internet Conference was hosted in Beijing, China in year 2009.
iv. Great Wall Association is the world’s largest and most influential mobile Internet industry.
v. The conference will cover areas like discuss mobile Internet opportunities within their respective markets and globally and it aims to connect, educate and promote game developers, while helping them to interact with game platforms, distributors, publishers, VCs and media from all over the world.

3. US PLACES INDIA YET AGAIN ON IPR ‘PRIORITY WATCH’ LIST
i. Office of United States Trade Representative released 2017 edition of ‘Special 301 Report’.
ii. In this report, India has once again been placed in the ‘Priority Watch List’ for not providing adequate protection to Intellectual property Rights.
iii. Besides India, other countries that have been placed in this year’s ‘Priority Watch List’ are: China, Thailand, Indonesia, Algeria, Argentina, Russia, Ukraine, Kuwait, Chile and Venezuela.

4. GST TO PUSH INDIAN GROWTH TO OVER 8%:  IMF
i. International Monetary Fund has mentioned the Goods and Services Tax to be implemented from July 1, 2017
ii. GST would help raise India’s medium-term growth to above 8%. Indian Government has made significant progress on economic reforms. It will support strong and sustainable growth.
iii. India’s is the fastest growing emerging market economy and IMF’s believes that India is going to continue to grow at fast pace with a projected 6.8% rate for 2016-2017, 7.2% 2017-2018.

5. PANCHAYAT WARD IN KOTTAYAM BECOMES INDIA’S 1ST DIGITALISED WARD
i. This small Panchayat ward in Kerala has become the 1st one to go digital in the country.
ii. It fulfills PM Narendra Modi’s dream of transforming India into a digitally empowered society.
iii. The website also contains information about blood donors’ forum and telephone directory of the people of the ward.

6. TWO INDIAN-AMERICAN, RITU RAJU AND SUNDEEP R MUPPIDI SELECTED FOR ACE FELLOWSHIP
i. Two Indian-Americans are selected by American Council on Education for its prestigious fellowship. It is the longest-running leadership development programme in the US.
ii. Sundeep R Muppidi and Ritu Raju were named Fellows as part of the ACE Fellows Programme 2017-18 classes. The ACE Fellows Programme has strengthened institutions in American higher education.

7. HERO MOTOCORP NAMED ‘INDIAN MNC OF THE YEAR’
i. World’s largest 2-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp was get the ‘Indian MNC of the year‘. It was given by All India Management Association.
ii. In a very short span of time Hero has expanded to 35 countries spread across Asia, Africa and Central and South America. Hero’s manufacturing plant is situated in Vila Ricca, Colombia.
iii. It is the only Indian 2-wheeler company to have a manufacturing facility in Latin America.

8. YUSHRA MARDINI APPOINTED UNHCR GOODWILL AMBASSADOR
i. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, announced the appointment of Syrian refugee and Olympic athlete Yusra Mardini as a Goodwill Ambassador.
ii. Yusra Mardini has worked closely with UNHCR, highlighting with her own inspiring performances.

9. COAST GUARD DECOMMISSIONS ICGS VARAD AFTER 27 YEARS
i. Indian Coast Guard ship, ICGS Varad, the 8th in the Vikram-class offshore patrol vessel, was decommissioned at Chennai Port.
ii. ICGS Varad was built by Goa Shipyard Ltd. Its Construction work was launched on September 1989.
iii. It was formally commissioned on July 1990 by the Governor of Goa, Khurshid Alam Khan.

10. DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR ALL VICTIMS OF CHEMICAL WARFARE: APRIL 29, 2017
i. The Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare 2017 was observed on 29 April by the United Nations.
ii. This day will provide an opportunity to pay tribute to the victims of chemical warfare. The 3rd Review Conference of States Parties to the Chemical Convention held in April 2013 in The Hague, the Netherlands.
iii. It also passes the message of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to the elimination of the threat of chemical weapons.
iv. The OPCW Member States represent about 98% of the global population and landmass, as well as 98% of the worldwide chemical industry.
