1. GRSE BECOMES 1ST INDIAN SHIPYARD TO DELIVER 100 WARSHIPS
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited has delivered its 100th Warship which is a Landing Craft Utility, L-56, to the Indian Navy today.
This has made GRSE the first Indian Shipyard to make and deliver 100 warships to the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and Mauritius Coast Guard.
The 100th Warship, IN LCU L-56 was handed over by Rear Admiral V. K. Saxena, Chairman & Managing Director, GRSE to Lt. Cdr. Gopinath Narayanan, Commanding Officer of the Ship.

2. LAWYER ZUZANA CAPUTOVA WON THE ELECTION OF SLOVAKIA’S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Lawyer Zuzana Caputova won Slovakia’s presidential election and become Slovakia’s first female president. She will succeed Andrej Kiska.
She was honoured with the Goldman Environmental Award in 2016 for her strong and resolute leadership regarding the Pezinok landfill affair, Caputova.

3. SHANGAI BECOMES 1ST DISTRICT WITH 5G COVERAGE
China’s Shanghai claimed to have the world’s first district with 5G coverage and a broadband gigabit network. It has conducted trial runs of the 5G network.
The trial runs of the 5G network started in Shanghai’s Hongkou district. 5G base stations had been deployed over the last three months to ensure full coverage in Hongkou.

4. SOUTH KOREA WON AZLAN SHAH HOCKEY CUP BY DEFEATING INDIA
17th Ranked South Korea defeated World number 5, India to won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup which was held at Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh, Malaysia.

1. AUSTRALIA LAUNCHED 7 NATION MILITARY EXERCISE IN INDIAN OCEAN
Australia is conducting 7 nation Indian Ocean military exercises along with Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore. Australia sent 4 Naval Ships and one military aircraft along with around 1000 security personnel making it one the biggest military exercise.
The exercise is aimed to counter the growing Chinese influence in the India Ocean.

2. BANK OF BARODA BECOMES THE 3RD LARGEST BANK AFTER ITS MERGER WITH DENA BANK & VIJAYA BANK
The merger of Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank into Bank of Baroda has come into effect. With this amalgamation, Bank of Baroda becomes the India’s second largest public sector bank and third largest commercial bank after State Bank of India and HDFC Bank.
Government has also infused Rs 5,042 crore into Bank of Baroda by way of preferential allotment of equity shares. Centre’s shareholding in the merged entity is 65.7%.

3. RELIANCE MUTUAL FUND PARTNERING WITH GOOGLE, BECOMES THE FIRST INDIAN COMPANY TO LAUNCH VOICE-BASED FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS
Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management has joined hands with Google to enable the customers of Reliance Mutual Fund to carry out voice-based financial transactions.
With this, RNAM becomes the first company in India, to provide conversational interface that would help customers regarding funds transactions.

4. ANTI-DUMPING DUTY HAS BEEN IMPOSED ON THE IMPORT OF SOLAR COMPONENTS FROM FOUR NATIONS
In order to safeguard domestic players against cheap shipments, Department of Revenue, Government of India has imposed anti-dumping duty up to USD 1559 per tonne on the import of certain solar cell components (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Sheet for Solar Module) from China, Malaysia, Saudia Arabia and Thailand for a period of 5 years.
This move is taken on the recommendation of Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), which is the Investigation Arm of Ministry of Commerce.

5. BATMAN WILL BECOME THE FIRST INDUCTEE OF COMIC-CON MUSEUM’S CHARACTER HALL OF FAME
Batman will become the first Inductee of Comic-On Museum’s Character Hall of Fame in a ceremony at 50th Annual Comic-Con International in San Diego, USA.

6. 2019 INDIA OPEN (BADMINTON) HELD NEW DELHI FROM 26TH MARCH TO 31ST MARCH 2019
2019 India Open which is officially known as YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2019 was organized by the Badminton Association of India at the K.D. Jadhav Indoor hall in New Delhi from 26th March to 31 March 2019. It was the eighth tournament of 2019 BWF World Tour.
Danish Player, Viktor Axelsen defeated India’s top shuttler, Kidambi Srikanth in the final to win his second India Open title.
Women’s Singles won by Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand). Men’s Doubles won by Lee Yang (Taiwan) and Wang Chi-lin (Taiwan).

7. 2019 MIAMI OPEN HELD FLORIDA FROM 18TH MARCH TO 31ST MARCH 2019
2019 Miami Open which was the 35th edition of Miami Open, held at Miami Gardens in Florida, USA from 18th March to 31st March 2019. For the first time the tournament took place on the hard Rock Stadium.
Roger Federer won his 4th ATP Miami title in Men’s Single Category. Former Australian Cricketer, Ashleigh Barty became the first ever Australian winner of the tournament.

DAILY GK 3 APRIL

1. COMCASA: FIRST SECURE LINK BETWEEN INDIA, US NAVIES SET UP
India and the US have structured the first reliable communication link between the Indian Navy & US Central as well as Pacific Naval Commands under the COMCASA pact at New Delhi, India.
By implementing the path-breaking agreement, COMCASA the US has initiated the Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module GPS System in some of C-130 and C-17 transport aircraft.
Result of the COMCASA (Communications, Compatibility and Security Agreement) pact:
  • India will gain access to the US Naval intelligence other than just regulating joint operations in the future.
  • It will further aid the militaries to work in a conducive and ‘interoperable’ environment, without which previously India had to rely on less secure systems.
  • Pact will Help in building an “interoperable” enviroment for militaries of both nations

2. AUSINDEX 19: LARGEST AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE JOINT TASK FORCE TO VISIT INDIA FOR MILITARY EXERCISE
The Third iteration of India-Australia bilateral exercise, AUSINDEX 19 will be held from 2nd April to 16th April 2019 at Vishakhapatnam. The bilateral exercise will deepen defence and strategic relationship between the two countries.
The Focus of the exercise will be on anti-Submarine warfare.

3. KANDHAMAL HALDI (TURMERIC) GETS GI TAG
Kandhamal Haldi (turmeric), Odisha’s locally grown turmeric in its Kandhamal district has received the Geographical Indications tag from Intellectual Property India. It is organically grown by tribals.

4. INDIA WINS ICC TEST CHAMPIONSHIP MACE FOR 3RD STRAIGHT YEAR
India has retained ICC Test Championship mace for the third year in a row after finishing at the top of ICC Test team rankings on the cut-off date of April 1.
The runner up, New Zealand finished with 108 points. South Africa finished 3rd with 105 points.

5. WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY OBSERVED ON APRIL 2
World Autism Awareness Day is observed annually on April 2 to raise awareness about people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, globally.
The theme for 2019 was “Assistive Technologies, Active Participation”.
