1. RENEWABLE ENERGY COUNTRY ATTRACTIVENESS INDEX 2021

      US Tops and  India has retained its 3rd rank in the 58th edition of Ernst & Young Global Limited’s (EY) ‘Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index 2021’ (RECAI).

      Corporate PPA Index 2021: Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Index was newly included in the current edition of RECAI, in which India ranked 6th among the top 30 PPA markets.

2. 60TH NAM MEETING AT SERBIA

      Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs participated in the 60th Anniversary NAM (Non-Aligned Movement) Commemorative Meeting at Belgrade, Serbia

      NAM was established in 1961, by like-minded countries, which decided not to support either the USA or the Soviet Union in the Cold war.

      Members – 120 Member States

      Established through an initiative of the Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito, Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah and Indonesian President Sukarno.

 

3. PETA INDIA AWARD FOR ‘VEGAN LEATHER’  INITIATIVE

      The Forest & Environment Minister  of Meghalaya, James Pangsang Kongkal Sangma received the Progressive Business Concept Award of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) India 2021 for his Vegan Leather initiative.

      He started an initiative to make ‘Vegan Leather’ from Pineapples in the northeastern states of India.

      Vegan leather is a material that mimics leather, but is created from artificial or plant products instead of animal skins.

      It is most often made from two different plastic polymers; polyurethane (PU) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) – they are commonly used due to their wrinkled texture which helps to give the effect of real leather.

4. INDIA’S 21ST WOMAN GRAND MASTER

      Divya Deshmukh, a 15-year-old from Nagpur, became the 21st Woman Grand Master (WGM) of India.

      She attained this fleet during the “First Saturday Grand Master(GM)” in Budapest, Hungary.

      Subbaraman Vijayalakshmi was India’s 1st Women Grandmaster, while Viswanathan Anand became India’s 1st Grandmaster in 1988.

 

5. TAGLINE FOR 2022 AFC WOMEN’S ASIAN CUP UNVEILED

      Asian Football Confederation (AFC) unveiled ‘Our Goal for All’ as the official tagline for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022.

      The AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 will take place in three Indian cities of Maharashtra – Navi Mumbai, Mumbai and Pune

6. FATHER OF PAKISTAN’S NUCLEAR BOMB ABDUL QADEER KHAN PASSED AWAY

      Pakistani nuclear scientist and metallurgical engineer Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan who also known to be father of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons programme. He was born in 1936 at Bhopal,British India.

 

7. WORLD STANDARDS DAY 2021:OCTOBER 14 

      World Standards Day or International Standards Day is observed on October 14 every year at the global level. 

      World Standard Day 2021 Theme- ‘’Standards for Sustainable Development Goals – Our Shared Vision for a Better World”.

8. GLOBAL HUNGER INDEX (GHI) 2021

      India ranked 101 out of 116 countries in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2021 with a score of 27.5.

      India is behind its neighbours Pakistan (92), Bangladesh (76) and Nepal (76).

      The GHI 2021 report was prepared jointly by Irish aid agency Concern Worldwide and German organisation WeltHunger Hilfe.

 

9. INDIA TO INCREASE SOLAR CAPACITY TO 5630 GW BY 2070

      According to The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), an independent think tank, India to increase the total installed Solar Power Capacity to 5630 Giga Watts (GW) by 2070, to achieve Net Zero emission.

      A total land of 4.6% (approx.) of India’s land is required for Solar power generation in 2070.

      At present, India has 100 GW of installed Renewable Energy (RE) capacity (40GW Solar) & targets to attain 450GW RE capacity by 2030

 

10. INDIA GETS RE-ELECTED TO UNHRC

      India re-elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the term 2022-24 .

      It was elected for a 6th time with an overwhelming majority in the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

      India got 184 votes in the 193-member assembly, while the required majority was 97.

11. AMITABH CHAUDHRY REAPPOINTED AS MD & CEO OF AXIS BANK

      The Reserve Bank of India(RBI) has approved the reappointment of Amitabh Chaudhry as the Managing Director(MD) and Chief Executive officer(CEO) of Axis Bank .

      The MD & CEO of private banks are appointed by their respective boards, subject to approval by the RBI.

      The post of MD & CEO of a private bank cannot be held by the same individual for more than 15 years and no person can continue on such positions beyond the age of 70 years.

      Axis Bank is the 3rd Largest Private Sector Bank in India.

 

12. A K Goel Elected as Chairman of IBA

      Atul Kumar Goel (A K Goel), Managing Director and Chief Executive officer (MD & CEO) of UCO Bank has been elected as the Chairman of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) .

 

13. WORLD SIGHT DAY 2021 – OCTOBER 14

      World Sight Day is annually observed across the globe on the 2nd Thursday of October to create awareness on the global issue of eye health.

      World Sight Day is coordinated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Headquarters– London, United Kingdom

      The theme of World Sight Day 2021 is “Love Your Eyes”.

 

14. WORLD STUDENT’S DAY 2021:OCTOBER 15

      The day  marked as the  birth anniversary of  11th President, Dr. A P J (Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen) Abdul Kalam.

15. GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY 2021 – OCTOBER 15

      The Global Handwashing day is annually observed across the globe on October 15th to create awareness about the importance of washing hands regularly.

      The theme of the Global Handwashing Day 2021 is “Our Future is at Hand – Let’s Move Forward Together”.
