1.       52ND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF INDIA

·         52nd edition of the Asia’s oldest and largest film festival, International Film Festival of India (IFFI), held in Goa in hybrid mode to showcase the excellence of film art and filmmakers from all over the world while boosting creativity and cultural exchange.

·         Indian Film Personality of the Year Award for 2021  was conferred to Hema Malini,  Actor, Member of Parliament from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh and Prasoon Joshi, Lyricist and Chairperson, CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification).

·         Uttar Pradesh has been picked as the most friendly state for film shooting at 52nd IFFI. Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal received the award.

·         The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Film Festival was held for the 1st time on the side-lines of IFFI.

·         For the first time, 52nd IFFI had the presence and participation of OTT (Over-the-Top) platforms.

 

2.       ‘UNIQUE’ FACE RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGIES FOR ALL PENSIONERS LAUNCHED

·         This face recognition technology has been devised by the National Informatics Center (NIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in collaboration with the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India).

·         It will work as a  proof of ‘life certificate’ for pensioners.

·         All pensioners are mandated to submit their life certificate annually to continue receiving pension.

·         In 2014, the government decided to introduce and implement digital life certificates for the pensioners. The newly added unique face recognition technology will further help pensioners.

·         In August 2020, The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions decided to integrate the electronic Pension Payment Order (e-PPO) with Digi Locker.

 

3.       LIONEL MESSI WON THE BALLON D’OR AWARD FOR 7TH TIME

·         Argentia’s Lionel Andrés Messi (Lionel Messi), has won the Ballon d’Or award for the 7th time 

·         Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas has won the Women’s Ballon d’Or award. This is Alexia’s first Ballon d’Or Award.

·         Italy and PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has won the 2021 Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper.

·         Bayern Munich and Poland striker Robert Lewandowski won the Striker of the Year award 2021.

·         19-year-old Pedro González López, known as Pedri, of Spain won the Kopa trophy which is presented to the best male player age 21 or under.

·         Chelsea FC won the 2021 Club of the Year at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony.

 

4.       INDIAN-AMERICAN PARAG AGRAWAL TAKES OVER AS CEO OF TWITTER

·         The board of directors of Twitter has decided to appoint Indian American, Parag Agrawal, the Chief Technology Officer(CTO) of Twitter, as the new Chief Executive officer(CEO) of Twitter.

·         He was appointed following the resignation of Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, from the post of CEO.

·         Parag Agrawal is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and Stanford University.

·         He joined Twitter in 2011 as a software engineer and has been serving as the CTO since October 2017.

 

5.       SWEDEN ELECT 1ST FEMALE PRIME MINISTER

·         Eva Magdalena Andersson from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) became 1st female Prime Minister (PM) of Sweden.

·         Swedan’s Parliament is known as Riksdag.

·         She is serving as the PM from the Social Democratic Party or SDP.

·         Sweden is among the five Nordic countries – Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Denmark.

·         Capital- Stockholm

 

6.       CHINA LAUNCHES ZHONGXING-1D COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE

·         China launched a new communications satellite named Zhongxing-1D from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in Sichuan Province, China.Zhongxing-1D is also known as ChinaSat-1D.

·         It was developed by the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST).

·         In 2020, Micius satellite of China sent light particles to Earth to establish the world’s most secure communication link.Micius is the world’s first quantum communications satellite, launched by China in 2016.

 

7.       RUSSIAN NAVY TEST-FIRED ZIRCON, A HYPERSONIC MISSILE

·         The Russian navy successfully test fired the Tsirkon/Zircon cruise missile a hypersonic missile, in the White sea, a southern inlet of the Barents Sea, northwest coast of Russia. 

·         Zircon, a anti-ship hypersonic cruise missile, is one of several hypersonic missiles under development in Russia.

·         It is capable of flying at nine times the speed of sound and have a range of 1,000 kilometers (620 miles).

8.       GLOBAL TRADE REPORT OF UNCTAD

·         As per the Global Trade update report (November 2021) of UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development), the Global trade is expected to increase by 23 percent to reach about US$ 28 trillion in 2021, when compared to 2020.

·         India’s Trade in Goods in Q3 2021 - Imports at 26% and Export at 27% relative to 2019 avarage

·         India’s Trade in services in Q3 2021 are imports at 3 % and export at 7 % relative to 2019 avarage

9.       EIU’S WORLDWIDE COST OF LIVING INDEX 2021

·         According to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Worldwide Cost of Living Index 2021, Tel Aviv, Israel has become the most expensive city in the world to live in 2021, pushing Paris, France and Singapore jointly to occupy the second spot

·         Syria’s Damascus was ranked as the world’s cheapest city.

·         The Worldwide Cost of Living Index examines the cost of living in 173 cities and measures impactful global events that are conducted twice a year.

 

10.    INDIA’S GDP GROWS AT 8.4% IN Q2FY22 : NSO ESTIMATES

·         The National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) .

·         As per the estimates, India’s GDP in Q2FY22 grew by 8.4% as compared to 7.4% contraction (-7.4%) in Q2FY21.

·         Also, the Indian economy is expected to grow 6.5-7% in 2022.

 

11.    DR. M.S. SWAMINATHAN AWARD FOR 2017-19

·         V Praveen Rao, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) wins the 7th Dr M S Swaminathan Award for the period 2017-19.

·         This prestigious Award was instituted in 2004 in the honour of Dr. M.S. Swaminathan  the main architect of India’s Green Revolution.

 

12.    MERRIAM-WEBSTER NAMED ‘VACCINE’ AS 2021 WORD OF THE YEAR

·         Merriam-Webster, America’s most trusted online dictionary, has chosen ‘Vaccine’ as the 2021 word of the year.

·         ‘Pandemic’ was the Merriam-Webster dictionary’s word of the year 2020.

 

13.    WORLD AIDS DAY 2021 – DECEMBER 1 

·         World AIDS (Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome) Day is annually observed across the globe on 1st December to create awareness about HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), a major public health issue that affects millions of people across the globe.

·         Symbol: The red ribbon is the universal symbol of awareness and support for people living with HIV.

·         Theme 2021: by UN & WHO - “End inequalities. End AIDS” .

·         According to hiv.gov, the theme of World AIDS Day 2021 is “Ending the HIV Epidemic: Equitable Access, Everyone’s Voice”.
