1.       WORLD MIGRATION REPORT 2022

·         International Organization for Migration (IOM) of the United Nations launched the 11th edition of its flagship publication, the World Migration Report 2022.

·         Report states that the global international migration has increased from 84 million globally in 1970 to 281 million in 2020.

·         The proportion of the international migrants has increased from  2.3% to 3.6% of the global population.

·         The report features the regular data collection by the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC).

 

2.       ANJU BOBBY GEORGE WINS WOMAN OF YEAR AWARD FROM WORLD ATHLETICS         

·         The former long jump legend from India, Anju Bobby George won the award for ‘Woman of the Year’ 2021 from  World Athletics. 

·         She has been awarded for her efforts in advancing sports in the country and also efforts for gender equality as the Senior Vice President of the Indian Athletics Federation (IAF).

·         World Athletes of the Year - Olympic champions Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica and Karsten Warholm of Norway.

·         Jean-Pierre Durand World Athletics Photograph of the Year – Ryan Pierse’s photograph of the women’s high jump qualifying at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

 

3.       NAOMI KAWASE NAMED AS UNESCO GOODWILL AMBASSADOR FOR CULTURAL

·         UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Director-General Audrey Azoulay appointed Japanese film director Naomi Kawase as the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural and Creative Industries.

 

4.       SAMBIT PATRA IS NEW CHAIRMAN OF ITDC          

·         The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson and leader Sambit Patra was appointed as the Chairman and part time Non-Executive Director of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC)

 

5.       INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ABOLITION OF SLAVERY 2021 – DECEMBER 2   

·         The United Nations (UN)’s International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is annually observed across the Globe on 2nd December to eradicate the contemporary forms of slavery which includes, Human Trafficking, Sexual exploitation, Child Labour, forced Marriage, and forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict.

 

6.       NATIONAL POLLUTION PREVENTION DAY 2021 – DECEMBER 2  

·         National Pollution Prevention Day or National Pollution Control Day is annually observed across India on 2nd December to honour and memorialize the people who have lost their lives or suffered in the 1984 Bhopal Gas Calamity, which is also referred to as the Bhopal gas tragedy or Bhopal disaster.

·         Bhopal Gas Tragedy was India’s first major industrial disaster, a gas leak from the Union Carbide Plant that took place on the night of 2-3 December 1984.

·         Around 45 tons of Methyl Isocyanate (also called MIC), a dangerous gas, leaked from the insecticide plant owned by the Union Carbide India Ltd (UCIL), the Indian subsidiary of the American firm Union Carbide Corporation.

 

7.       WORLD COMPUTER LITERACY DAY 2021 – DECEMBER 2

·         World Computer Literacy Day is annually observed on December 2nd to create awareness about computers and to encourage the development of technological skills among people especially children and women in India.

·         The World Computer Literacy Day was launched by the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), a renowned Indian computer company, in 2001 to mark the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

 

8.       INDIA ACHIEVES TARGET OF 40% POWER GENERATION CAPACITY FROM NON-FOSSIL FUEL SOURCES             

·         In accordance with the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE), India has achieved the target of 40% power generation capacity to 156.83 GW (Giga Watt) from non-fossil fuel sources in November 2021.

·         Now, India’s installed renewable energy (RE) capacity stands at 150.05 GW, while its nuclear energy-based installed electricity capacity is 6.78 GW.

·         This 156.83 GW non-fossil fuels based installed energy capacity is 40.1% of the total installed electricity capacity of 390.8 GW.

·         According to the government, installed power capacity from non-fossil fuels will go up to 66% by 2030. Also, India has already reached an emission reduction of 28%.

·         India announced to cut net carbon emissions to zero by 2070 at COP26 in Glasgow.

·         Achieving 40% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil energy sources by 2030.

 

9.       ADB APPROVES $500 MILLION LOAN TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF SCHOOL EDUCATION IN INDIA               

·         The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a $500 million (Rs 3,752 crore) loan to the Government of India to improve the quality of India’s school education and mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on student’s learning.

·         ADB’s loan supports the Samagra Shiksha, an Integrated Scheme for School Education and the new Exemplar School Initiative of the Ministry of Education (MOE).

·         Exemplar schools will provide quality learning environments that will become a model for replication in other government schools across India.

·         About 1,800 government schools were planned to be transformed into exemplar schools in Assam, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, and Uttarakhand.

10.    ASSAM GOVT.CONFERRED  ‘ASOM BAIBHAV AWARD’ TO INDUSTRIALIST RATAN TATA                

·         The Chief Minister (CM) of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma conferred the prestigious ‘Asom Baibhav’  2021 award to  Ratan Tata, Chairman of TATA Trusts for contributing towards cancer care services in Assam.

·         It is the highest civilian award of Assam.

·         Assam day is celebrated on 2 December to commemorate the rule of Chalong Sukapha.

 

11.    GITA GOPINATH APPOINTED IMF FIRST DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR              

·         Indian-American and the first female Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Gita Gopinath is promoted as the  IMF’s First Deputy Managing Director (FDMD) serving under IMF Chief Kristalina Georgieva.

12.    NEW APPOINTMENTS IN NARCL & IDRCL

·         Pradip Shah  appointed as the Chairman of National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL). 

·         Sanjay Jain appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of India Debt Resolution Company Ltd (IDRCL).

·         Diwakar Gupta  appointed  as Chairman of IDRCL.

 

13.    UN INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES 2021 – DECEMBER 3               

·         The theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2021 is “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world.”.

·         The state of Tamil Nadu (TN) has won the National Awards 2020 for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Best State in Promoting Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities category.
