DAILY GK 21,22  APRIL

1.       PARDHAN  MANTRI GARIB KALYAN PACKAGE EXTENDED FOR A PERIOD OF 180 DAYS

·         The Central Government extended Pradhan Mantri GaribKalyan Package (PMGKP) for a further period of 180 days w.e.f. April 19, 2022.

·         Launched on March 30, 2020, it provides comprehensive personal accident cover of Rs 50 Lakh to 22.12 lakh health care providers including community health workers and private health workers who have been in direct contact of COVID-19 patients and are at risk of being impacted by this.

 

2.       INDIA TO GET WORLD’S HIGHEST TUNNEL AT SHINKU LA PASS

·         India is set to have the world’s highest tunnel at Shinku La Pass, connecting Himachal Pradesh to the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh.

·         The tunnel is set to be built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at an altitude of 16,580 feet above sea level. 

·         The tunnel is expected to be operational for vehicles by 2025.

·         As of now, the highest tunnels are located in China and Peru, both not exceeding 16000 feet above sea level.

 

3.       IMF CUTS INDIA’S FY23 GROWTH FORECAST TO 8.2% FROM 9%

·         In its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) report, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) lowered India’s growth forecast to 8.2% for the current financial year 2022–23 (FY23), down from a previous estimate of 9% in January 2022.

·         India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to drop to 6.9% in 2023-24 (FY24) from 7.1%(Predicted by IMF in January 2022).

·         It also predicted that India’s current account deficit in FY23 will be 3.1%, compared with 1.5% expected for FY22.

·         The IMF’s projection of India’s retail inflation is now at 6.1%, higher than the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) forecast of 5.7%.

·         The World Bank had previously lowered India’s GDP forecast for FY23 to 8%.

·         Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has slashed India’s GDP forecast to 7.2% for FY23. 

·         The Indian economy is expected to increase between 8% – 8.5 % in 2022-23, according to the Ministry of Finance.

 

4.       RUSSIAN CENTRAL BANK REGISTERS NEW PAYMENT SYSTEM ‘HELLO’

·         The Central Bank of the Russian Federation, also known as the Bank of Russia, has included a new payment system, “Hello”, into the national register of credit institutions.

·         Hello is a set of payment services and institutions that enable money transfer transactions. 

 

5.       PATRICK ACHI REAPPOINTED AS THE PM OF CÔTE D’IVOIRE 

·         Alassane Ouattara, President of Côte d’Ivoire, reappointed Patrick Achi as the new Prime Minister of Côte d’Ivoire. 

·         Ivory Coast, also officially known as Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, is a country on the southwest coast of Africa.

·         De jure Capital – Yamoussoukro

 

6.       IAF TEST FIRES BRAHMOS SUPERSONIC MISSILE FROM SU30-MKI FIGHTER JET

·         The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully test-fired a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a Sukhoi-30 MkI (Su30-MkI) aircraft on the Eastern seaboard, demonstrating its operational preparedness.

·         The Government of India decided in 2016 to integrate the Brahmos’ air-launched variant onto approximately 40 Sukhoi fighter jets.

·         BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India and Russia, manufactures supersonic cruise missiles that can be fired from submarines, ships, planes, or land platforms.

·         The advanced version of the missile’s range has been increased to around 350 km from the initial 290 km.

 

7.       TELANGANA TO GET WORLD’S LARGEST ELECTRIC 3-WHEELER MAKING PLANT

·         Biliti Electric Inc (Biliti), based in California, United States of America(USA), has announced its intention to establish the world’s largest electric three-wheeler manufacturing facility in Telangana.

·         At present, Biliti operates through a manufacturing partnership with Hyderabad based Gayam Motor Works(GMW) for manufacturing 3 wheelers

8.       WISDEN’S ‘CRICKETERS OF THE YEAR’

·         India captain Rohit Sharma and Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah along with New Zealand batter Devon Conway, England pacer Ollie Robinson and South African (Proteas) women star Dane van Niekerk have been named as the five players in Wisden’s ‘Cricketers of the Year’ in the 2022 edition of the Almanack. 

·         Besides, Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has earned the title of leading T20 cricketer in the world.

·         Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack2022 , is a cricket reference book published in the United Kingdom.

·         England’s Joe Root has been named as leading cricketer in the world for his exceptional 2021-2022 season.

·         South Africa’s Lizelle Lee is named as the Leading Woman Cricketer in the World, after scoring more runs in 11 ODIs (632runs) at a higher average (90) than any other player.

 

9.       6TH ENTREPRENEUR LEADERSHIP AWARD 2022

·         Indian-American Defence Expert, VivekLall, Chief executive of General Atomics Global Corporation, has been selected for the ‘Global Leader in Defence and Aviation Sector’ category of the 6th Entrepreneur Leadership Awards 2022 by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC). 

·         IACC, established in 1968, is the apex bi-lateral Chamber synergising India-United States(US) economic engagement. 

 

10.    PRINCIPAL SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR TO THE GOI

·         Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood (AK Sood) is appointed as the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) to the Government of India(GoI) for a period of 3 years

·         Cabinet Secretariat established the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor(PSA) to the GoI in November 1999. 

·         The office of PSA coordinates with several Ministries and advises the government on science and technology policies and interventions that are of strategic socio-economic importance.

 

11.    RUSSIA TESTS WORLD’S ‘MOST POWERFUL’ NUCLEAR-CAPABLE BALLISTIC MISSILE

·         Russia had test-launched a new nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile namely ‘RS-28 Sarmat’ from Plesetsk in northwest Russia and hit targets in the Kamchatka peninsula, nearly 6,000 km (3,700 miles) away.

·         It is also called ‘Satan 2’.

·         It is the most powerful missile with the longest range of destruction of targets in the world.

·         Sarmat is a three-stage, liquid-fueled missile with a range of 18,000 km and a launch weight of 208.1 metric tons, to be exact.

 

12.    NATIONAL CIVIL SERVICES DAY 2022 – APRIL 21

·         The National Civil Services Day is annually observed across India on 21st April to celebrate the Civil Servants who serve the nation in different terrains and across different sectors. 

·         The theme of Civil Services Day 2022 is “Vision India@2047 – Bringing Citizens and Government closer”.
