1.       NHAI SETS NEW GUINNESS WORLD RECORD

·         NHAI created a new world record in laying 75 kms of bituminous concrete in a single lane on NH53 between Amravati to Akola Districts in 105 hours and 33 minutes.

·         The corridor connects major cities like Kolkata, Raipur, Nagpur and Surat.

·         Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the target of constructing 60 kilometres of highway per day.

 

2.       QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2023

·         According to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2023, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, Karnataka, ranked 155 and emerged as the fastest rising South Asian university among the top 200 universities followed by IIT Bombay (172nd) and IIT Delhi (174th).

·         The ranking was topped by the United States(US)’s Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) followed by the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom(UK) and Stanford University(US).

·         41 Indian institutes featured in the ranking

 

3.       RBI’S 2ND BI-MONTHLY MONETARY POLICY OF 2022-23

·         The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) in June 6 released the RBI’s 2nd bi-monthly monetary policy of FY23 which retained India’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth at 7.2% for the FY23

·         The MPC raised the repo rate by 50 basis points to 4.90% which is biggest in more than a decade.

·         RBI allowed Financially Sound and Well Managed (FSWM) Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs) to provide Doorstep Banking (DSB) services to their customers on a voluntary basis, at par with Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs).

·         RBI enhanced the limit for e-mandates/ standing instructions on credit/debit cards and prepaid payment instruments (PPIs) for recurring transactions to Rs 15,000 from Rs 5,000.

 

4.       INDIA’S 1ST HUMAN SPACE MISSION & 1ST HUMAN OCEAN MISSION

·         India is set to simultaneously launch the first Human Space Mission “Gaganyaan” as well as the first manned Human Ocean Mission in 2023.

·         The government is set to unveil the Blue Economy Policy and more than 40 million people will be employed by ocean-based industries by 2030.

 

5.       INDIA FINALISES DEALS FOR CHEETAHS FROM SOUTH AFRICA AND NAMIBIA

·         The Indian government has finalised deals with South Africa and Namibia to get the planet’s fastest animals, cheetahs that became extinct in India and will be released into the wild at Kuno Palpur, Madhya Pradesh, by the end of 2022.

·         There will be 12 cheetahs from South Africa and 8 from Namibia and more will be followed in subsequent years.

·         According to CITES ,a multilateral treaty to protect endangered plants and animals, sustainable use of biodiversity means to contribute to tangible benefits for local people.

·         CITES  – Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, (also known as the Washington Convention) 

 

6.       NEW NON-PERMANENT MEMBERS OF UNSC

·         The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) elected Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, and Switzerland to serve as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for a two-year term beginning January 01, 2023.

·         The newly elected countries will replace India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, and Norway, which will vacate their seats at the end of 2022.

·         Abdulla Shahid, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, announced the result.

·         A total of 15 countries make up the United Nations Security Council. China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States (US) are the five permanent members (Permanent Five (P5) members), with veto power.

·         The UN General Assembly, which is made up of all 193 UN Member States, elects the 10 non-permanent members, who are elected for two-year terms.

·         Even if they run unopposed, countries must win a two-thirds majority, or 128 votes, to secure a seat on the UNSC.

·         The five newly-elected countries will join Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) around the Security Council’s signature horseshoe table.

7.       RBI CANCELS THE LICENSE OF MUDHOL CO-OPERATIVE BANK, KARNATAKA

·         The RBI has cancelled the license of Mudhol Co-operative Bank Limited in Bagalkot, Karnataka, preventing it from conducting banking operations, with effect from the close of business on June 08, 2022.

·         The bank is prohibited from doing “banking” operations, which includes, the acceptance and repayment of deposits as defined in Section 5(b) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, with immediate effect.

·         On liquidation, every depositor would be entitled to receive deposit insurance claim amount of his/her deposits up to a monetary ceiling of Rs.5,00,000/- (Rupees Five Lakh only) from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) subject to the provisions of the DICGC Act, 1961.

 

8.       Logo & Mascot of 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022

·         Tamil Nadu(TN) Chief Minister (CM) MK Stalin, launched the official logo and mascot named ‘Thambi’ (which means younger brother in Tamil) for 44th International Chess Federation (FIDE-Fédération Internationale des Échecs) Chess Olympiad which is scheduled to be held from 28th July to 10th August 2022 in at Mamallapuram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
