1.       PM NARENDRA MODI’S VISIT TO GERMANY AND UAE-G7 SUMMIT

·         The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi was on a 3-day visit to Germany, and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

·         In the first leg of his visit he visited Alpine castle of Schloss Elmau in southern Germany to attend the 48th G7 Summit in 2022 as Guest.

·         He was invited by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

·         It was hosted by Germany as it is the current chair of G7.

·         The G7 group launched a ‘Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment’ initiative to compete with China.

·         On the suggestion of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the G7 will establish a Climate Club by the end of 2022. 

·         It will an intergovernmental forum consistent with international rules, and is open to countries committed to the 2015 Paris Agreement goal.

·         Later PM Narendra Modi has a brief stopover in Abu Dhabi, UAE to pay his condolences on the passing away of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former president of UAE.

 

2.       NATO NATIONS SIGN ACCESSION PROTOCOLS FOR SWEDEN, FINLAND

·         North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) signed the Accession Protocols for Finland and Sweden at NATO Headquarters (Brussels in Belgium), commencing the ratification process.

·         The Accession Protocols were signed in the presence of Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde.

·         Following the signing of a trilateral memorandum between Turkey, Finland, and Sweden at the NATO Summit 2022 in Madrid, Spain, on June 28–30, 2022, the Allied leaders agreed to invite Russia’s neighbour, Finland, and Scandinavian partner, Sweden, to join the military club, NATO.

·         Despite the alliance’s agreement, Turkey’s parliamentary approval could still be an obstacle to the final membership of both the nations.

·         Turkey might still hinder the process if the two nations do not completely accept Turkey’s demand to extradite terror suspects with ties to illegal Kurdish groups or the network of an exiled cleric accused of plotting a failed coup in Turkey in 2016.

3.       SBI GENERAL INSURANCE LAUNCHES CYBER INSURANCE COVER FOR INDIVIDUALS : CYBER VAULT EDGE

·         SBI General Insurance has launched the Cyber VaultEdge insurance plan, a comprehensive cyber insurance cover for protecting individuals against financial losses arising from cyber risks and attacks.

·         It has been designed to address the risks occurring due to cybercrime and instances of reputation damage, fraudulent transactions with credit cards, debit cards, theft of personal information, etc.

·         It also covers unauthorised e-transactions, loss of wages resulting from identity theft and instances impacting online reputation including social media trolling, bullying, and stalking.\

·         Cyber VaultEdge takes care of the legal expenses arising on any legal actions taken for the incidents against 3rd parties and reimbursement is done to restore data by availing Information Technology (IT) specialists.

·         It also covers consultation expenses of psychologists to individuals for trauma or stress arising due to such incidents.

 

4.       FIELDS MEDAL 2022- MATHEMATICIAN

·         Ukraine’s mathematician Maryna Viazovska was named among four recipients of the Fields Medal 2022 by the International Mathematical Union (IMU) which is also known as the Nobel Prize for mathematics.

·         She became the second woman ever to receive the award (first was- Maryam Mirzakhani in 2014)

·         The other recipients – Hugo Duminil-Copin of France, June Huh of the United States (US), and James Maynard of Britain. 

·         The Fields Medal is awarded every four years to mathematicians under the age of 40 years.

·         The recipients are normally announced at the International Congress of Mathematicians, which was originally due to be held in Russia 2022 but moved to Helsinki (Finland).    

 

5.       FIRST INDIA ANIMAL HEALTH SUMMIT & AWARDS 2022

·         Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala,  inaugurated First India Animal Health Summit 2022 held at NASC Complex, New Delhi, Delhi for greater use of Ayurveda for ensuring better animal health.

·         The summit is to understand the significance of animal health towards the broader objective of India’s food and nutrition security, rural incomes and prosperity and overall economic development.

·         The India Animal Health Summit 2022  was organised by the Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA) and the Agriculture Today Group.

 

6.       DEUTSCHE BAHN BECOME WORLD’S FIRST INTERMODAL PARTNER OF THE STAR ALLIANCE

·         Deutsche Bahn (DB), Germany national railway company will be the world’s first intermodal partner of the Star Alliance from 1st August 2022 which allows customers and passengers of Star Alliance member airlines to connect the airline with rail, bus, ferry and other modes of transport.

·         Germany is the first market and DB is the world’s first partner in the new Star Alliance programme.

·         This partnership bring DB customers and passengers of Star Alliance member airlines will able to start or end their journey comfortably on the climate-friendly train.

·         Airline customers receive a combined ticket with just one booking process for the outward and return flight and the respective train journeys including seat reservation.

7.       ENGLAND -INDIA 5TH TEST MATCH

·         England cricket team lead by Red Ball Captain Ben Stokes has defeated the Indian cricket team led by Jasprit Bumrah in the 5th Test match (Rescheduled) and drawn the five-match series 2021/2022 (2-2) and the Pataudi Trophy was shared between two teams.

·         The 5th test has been played in the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, England.

·         The 5th test match has been postponed in 2021 due to the increase in Covid-19 cases.

·         Joe Root the number one-ranked Test batter was adjudged as the player of the series for his brilliant score 671 runs in the 5 match test series.

·         Jonny Bairstow was adjudged as the player of the match for scoring 220 (106 & 114) runs in the 5th test.

 

8.       1ST EDITION OF ELORDA BOXING CUP 2022

·         Indian women boxers, Reigning Youth World champions Alfiya Pathan (+81kg category) and Gitika (48kg category) won the gold medal at the inaugural (1st) edition of the Elorda Boxing Cup 2022 held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

·         By winning two gold, two silver and 10 bronze medals (6 women and 4 men) for the country, the 33-member Indian delegation concluded a total grand tally of 14 medals

·         The inaugural Elorda Boxing Cup 2022 witnessed the participation of boxers from Kazakhstan (hosts), Uzbekistan, India, China, Mongolia and Cuba.
