1.              PRADHAN MANTRI TB MUKT BHARAT ABHIYAAN LAUNCHED

·                The President of India, Droupadi Murmu virtually launched the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to reinvigorate the mission of Tuberculosis (TB) elimination from the country by 2025.

·                The President also launched the Ni-kshay 2.0 initiative, a  portal to provide a platform for donors to provide various forms of support to those undergoing TB treatment.

·                India has more than 25 percent of the total TB patients of the world, whereas India’s entire population itself is less than 20 percent of the world’s population.

·                In 2020, the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) was renamed as the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) that aims to eradicate TB by 2025 which is 5 years ahead of Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

 

2.              INDIAN ARMY & INDIAN AIR FORCE CONDUCT JOINT EXERCISE “GAGAN STRIKE” IN PUNJAB

·                The Kharga Corps of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted the joint exercise “Gagan Strike” in Punjab

·                The joint exercise was led by Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Kharga Corps, and took place over 4 days in various places of Punjab bordering Ambala in Haryana.

 

3.              INDIA’S TRUCK MARKET LIKELY TO GROW OVER 4-TIMES BY 2050

·                According to a National Institute for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog report titled ‘Transforming Trucking in India: Pathways to Zero-Emission Truck Deployment’, India’s trucking market is expected to grow over 4 times by 2050.

·                Due to the increase in population, the rise of e-commerce and rising income levels, the transport demand continues to grow and the road freight movement is expected to increase to 9.6 trillion tonnes Kilometre by 2050.

·                As per the report, In India, the transportation costs is around 62 percent of overall logistics, accounting for 14 percent of India’s GDP.

 

4.              KIBITHU MILITARY STATION NAMED AFTER GEN BIPIN RAWAT

·                The military camp in Kibithu, Arunachal Pradesh and the 22 Km-road stretch from Walong to Kibithu have been named in honour of General BipinRawat, India’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), who was killed in a chopper crash in December 2021.

·                The military camp in Kibithu has been renamed as ‘Gen Bipin Rawat military garrison’ and the road was named as “Gen. Bipin Rawat Marg”.  

 

5.              DELHI POLICE BECOME THE FIRST POLICE FORCE IN INDIA TO MAKE FORENSIC PROBE MANDATORY

·                Delhi Police has become the first police force in India to make collection of forensic evidence mandatory in crimes punishable by more than six years.

·                The order was created to provide guidelines for the use of forensic tools by all Investigating Officers of the Delhi Police in offences carrying a sentence of more than six years.

·                According to the order, each district of the Delhi Police will also have access to one forensic mobile van, which will be used to provide investigation officers with on-the-spot scientific and forensic support as needed.

 

6.              GLOBALLY HALF OF HEALTH CARE FACILITIES LACK BASIC HYGIENE SERVICES- REPORT BY WHO & UNICEF

·                According to the Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) report by World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) titled “Progress on WASH in health care facilities 2000–2021: special focus on WASH and infection prevention and control (IPC)”,  in 2021, around half of health care facilities (51%) across the world lack basic hygiene services with water and soap or alcohol-based hand rub where patients receive care and at toilets.

·                The report states that around 3.85 billion people across the globe depend on these facilities.

·                This also includes the 688 million people who receive care at facilities with no hygiene services at all.

·                The report was launched at the World Water Week, the annual conference held from 23rd August to 1st September 2022 in Stockholm, Sweden.

·                Globally, 4 in 5 health care facilities, around 78%,  had basic water services which mean the water was available from an improved source on the facility in 2021.

·                Around 1.7 billion people do not have access to basic water services in their healthcare facility, including 857 million people across the globe who have no water service at their healthcare facility.

·                According to WHO and UNICEF, for hygiene, data are now available for 40 counties, which represents 35% of the world’s population, up from 21 in 2020 and 14 in 2019.

 

7.              DIAMOND LEAGUE FINAL: NEERAJ CHOPRA BECOMES FIRST INDIAN TO WIN DIAMOND TROPHY

·                Neeraj Chopra became the 1st Indian to win the Diamond League Finals Title, the prestigious title in the finale of the Diamond League series in Zurich in men’s javelin with 88.44m throw.

·                Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch won the second position with 86.94 m throw and Germany’s Julian Webber is in the third position with 83.73m throw.

 

8.              WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY 2022 – SEPTEMBER 10 

·                World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is annually observed across the globe on 10th September to focus attention on the issue of suicide and reduce the stigma around it.

·                The theme of WSPD 2022 is “Creating hope through action”.

·                “Creating hope through action” is the triennial theme for World Suicide Prevention Day from 2021 – 2023.
