1.         SOUTH INDIAN BANK ENTERS WORLD BOOK OF RECORDS FOR ‘101 OONJALS’

·                South Indian Bank bagged a world record for organizing a first-of-its-kind category event ‘Onnichirikkam Oonjaladam’ (sit together and swing) by staging and swinging 101 ‘Oonjals’ (swings) simultaneously at Marine drive in Kochi, Kerala.

·                The World Book of Records team presented the Award to Murali Ramakrishnan Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of South Indian Bank and other bank officials.

 

2.         SASTRA RAMANUJAN PRIZE FOR 2022

·                The SASTRA Ramanujan Prize for 2022 will be awarded to Yunqing Tang of China, Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, United States of America (USA) 

·                The award, instituted by the Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) in 2005 with a cash prize of USD 10,000.

·                It is presented annually to individuals aged 32 and below, who made outstanding contributions in the field of mathematics, influenced by Srinivasa Ramanjuan in a broad sense.

·                Srinivasa Ramanujan was an Indian mathematician who made major contributions to mathematics such as Ramanujan prime, the Ramanujan theta function, mock theta functions and partition formulae etc.     

 

3.         2022 IBSF WORLD BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP

·                India’s leading cueist, Pankaj Advani won the 2022 IBSF (International Billiards & Snooker Federation) World Billiards Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

·                It was his 25th gold medal at the international level.

·                He outclassed compatriot Sourav Kothari by 4-0 in the 150-up billiards final at the World Championships.

 

4.         ASTANA OPEN TENNIS

·                Novak Djokovic (Serbia) clinched his 90th ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) title, by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece)

·                Astana Open 2022 was held at Astana, Kazakhstan

·                With this win he joined Rafael Nadal and Federer in the list of players in Open Era with 90 or more ATP titles.

·                The legendary Jimmy Connors continues to dominate the list with his tally of 109 titles, followed by Roger Federer (103) and Ivan Lendl (94).

 

5.         JAPANESE GP FORMULA 1 WORLD CHAMPION

·                Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, a Belgian-Dutch racing driver, won the Formula 1 Honda Japanese Grand Prix 2022  held at the Suzuka International Racing Course in Suzuka (Suzuka Circuit), Japan.

·                Max Verstappen is followed by Red Bull’s Sergio Perez (Mexico) and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (Monaco).

 

6.         FORMER UP CM MULAYAM SINGH YADAV PASSES AWAY

·                Samajwadi Party founder and former Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away at the age of 82 years in Gurugram, Haryana.

·                He served as the CM of UP for 3 non-consecutive terms (1989-91, 1993-95, and 2003-2007).

·                He was often referred to as “Netaji’’ (meaning respected leader in Hindi) by party leaders and workers.

·                Mulayam Singh Yadav was born on 22 November 1939 in Saifai village, Etawah district, UP.

·                He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for seven times, representing the constituency of Mainpuri (UP) in the Lok Sabha, and also earlier served as the MP from Azamgarh and Sambhal constituencies.

·                He also served as the Union Minister of Defence from 1996 to 1998.

 

7.         WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2022 – OCTOBER 10

·                The United Nations (UN)’s World Mental Health Day (WMHD) is annually observed across the globe on October 10 to raise awareness about mental health around the world and to mobilize efforts to support those experiencing mental health issues.

·                The theme for World Mental Health Day 2022 is “Make Mental Health For All a Global Priority.”

·                Symbol of Mental Health Day: The green ribbon is the international symbol of mental health awareness.

 

8.         WORLD POST DAY 2022 – OCTOBER 9 

·                United Nations(UN) World Post Day is annually observed across the globe on 9th October to mark the establishment of the Universal Postal Union(UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland.

·                The theme of World Post Day 2022 is “Post for Planet”.

·                India’s National Post Week 2022 – 9th to 13th October 2022

 

9.         TELE-MANAS INITIATIVE LAUNCHED ON WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

·                Thawar Chand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka, virtually launched the Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States (Tele-MANAS) initiative on October 10, 2022, World Mental Health Day.

·                Tele-MANAS intends to offer 24/7 free tele-mental health services throughout India, with a focus on people who live in remote or underserved areas.

·                It is an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW).

·                It was launched at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru, Karnataka.NIMHANS serving as the nodal organisation.

·                The GoI plans to establish at least one Tele-MANAS cell in each State/UT.

 

10.       INDIA’S FIRST FIFA-INITIATED ‘FOOTBALL FOR ALL’ INITIATIVE LAUNCHED IN ODISHA

·                Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister (CM) of Odisha, virtually launched ‘Football for All’ initiative to promote the sport among school children in Odisha.

·                This is the first such programme by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA – Fédération Internationale de Football Association) to promote football in India.

·                The Football for all programme is sponsored by FIFA in partnership with KIIT (Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology) & KISS (Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences).

·                The “Football for All” initiative aims to promote football among school children.

·                Odisha will host the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 in October, 2022

11.       RBI: CANCELS LICENCE FOR SEVAVIKAS CO-OPERATIVE BANK OF PUNE

·                The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) revoked the license of Pune-based SevaVikas Co-operative Bank due to its insufficient capital and the company’s lack of earning potential.

·                The bank is prohibited from conducting the business of ‘banking’ which includes, acceptance of deposits and repayment of deposits as defined in Section 5 (b) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 with immediate effect.

·                According to the Bank’s data, around 99 percent of the depositors are entitled to receive the full amount of their deposits from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

·                Upon liquidation, every depositor will receive an insurance for deposits up to Rs.5 Lakh from DICGC, under the DICGC Act, 1961.

·                In August 2022, RBI had cancelled the licence of Pune-based Rupee Cooperative Bank.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 48 lakh on the Kerala State Co-operative Bank Limited, Thiruvananthapuram for its non-compliance with the provisions of section 56 of Banking Regulation Act, 1949 and directions issued by RBI on Gold Loan – Bullet Repayment.

·                Justice Pankaj Mithal as Chief Justice(CJ) of Rajasthan High Court.

14.       ANANTH NARAYAN GOPALAKRISHNAN TAKES CHARGE AS SEBI WHOLE TIME MEMBER

·                Ananth Narayan Gopalakrishnan took charge as Whole Time Member (WTM), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

·                He will handle the Market Intermediaries Regulation and Supervision Department (MIRSD), Alternative Investment Fund and Foreign Portfolio Investors Department (AFD), Integrated Surveillance Department (ISD), Department of Economic & Policy Analysis (DEPA) and Information Technology Department (ITD).

16.       HARMANPREET KAUR BECOMES FIRST INDIAN WOMAN TO CLINCH ICC PLAYER OF THE MONTH

·                India women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan won the ICC (International Cricket Council)Player of the Month awards for September 2022 in women’s and men’s categories respectively.

·                Harmanpreet Kaur received the award for her memorable showing in the 3-0 One Day International (ODI) series in England. This was India’s first series win in England since 1999.

 

17.       INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD 2022 – OCTOBER 11 

·                The United Nations (UN)’s International Day of the Girl Child is annually observed across the globe on October 11 to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.

·                The theme of the International Day of the Girl Child 2022 is “Our time is now – Our Rights, Our Future“.
