1.       GLOBAL DPI SUMMIT 2023 HELD IN PUNE

·         The Global DPI Summit 2023 was held as part of the side event of the third meeting of the G20 (Group of Twenty) Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) in Pune, Maharashtra.

·         The theme of the summit was Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Ease of Living, Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Governance

·         The event saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and the four countries of Armenia, Sierra Leone, Suriname, and Antigua and Barbuda on sharing INDIA STACK.

 

2.       MULTILATERAL NAVAL EXERCISE KOMODO 2023 AT INDONESIA

·         Indian Naval ship (INS) Satpura participated in the 4th edition of Multilateral Naval Exercise “Komodo” (MNEK 2023) held in and around Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia

·         MNEK is a biennial exercise, held every 2 years, since 2014 between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

·         The navies of 36 countries including the United States of America (USA), Australia, Brazil, Bangladesh, Canada, China, and India celebrated the opening of the international exercise of the 2023 MNEK.

·         The theme of MNEK 2023 was “Partnership to recover and to rise stronger.”

 

3.       EUROPE AND  NATO BEGINS ITS AIR DRILL -“AIR DEFENDER 23”

·         North Atlantic Treaty Organization(NATO) began its German (host) led air force deployment “Air Defender 23” exercise in Europe.

·         The exercise is scheduled to be held from 12th-23rd June 2023 and includes 250 military aircraft from 25 NATO and partner countries including Japan and Sweden.

 

4.       FINANCIAL INCLUSION DASHBOARD ANTARDRISHTI

·         Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, Shaktikanta Das, launched a financial inclusion dashboard named ‘Antardrishti‘.

·         ‘Antardrishti’ in Hindi means “Insight”.

·         The dashboard provides the necessary insight to assess and track the development of financial inclusion by recording relevant data.

·         Financial Inclusion aims to provide access to affordable and appropriate financial products and services like savings accounts, credit, insurance, and payment systems.

·         RBI had constructed the Financial Inclusion (FI) Index in 2021, to measure the extent of financial inclusion.

·         FI index comprises 3 parameters, ‘Access (35% weightage), Usage (45%), and Quality (20%).

 

5.       SEBI INTRODUCES FRAMEWORK FOR DIRECT MUTUAL FUND INVESTMENT PLATFORMS

·         Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) introduced a regulatory framework for online investment (Execution Only) Platforms that facilitate investments in direct (commission-free) plans of schemes of mutual fund (MF) w.e.f. September 01, 2023.

·         This introduction followed the public consultation and discussions in the MF Advisory Committee where it has been decided to prescribe a framework for Execution Only Platforms for transacting in direct plans of schemes of MF. In this regard, the SEBI (Stock Brokers) Regulations, 1992 have been amended.

 

6.       CENTRAL BANKING AWARDS 2023

·         Shaktikanta Das, the 25th governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been honoured with the title the “Governor of the Year” at the Central Banking Awards 2023 in London, for his role during Covid-19, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the fight against inflation.

·         He is the second RBI governor to be honoured with the award after Raghuram Rajan, who received the title in 2015.

 

7.       CHIEF OF IATA’S BOARD OF GOVERNORS

·         Pieter Elbers,the Chief executive officer(CEO) of Inter Globe Aviation Limited (IndiGo), has been elected as the chair-elect of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Board of Governors.

·         IATA is a trade association of airlines, founded in 1945, headquartered in Montreal, Canada.

 

8.       WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY 2023 – JUNE 14

·         World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is annually observed on 14th June across the world to raise awareness about the significance of donating blood, and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

·         The annual observance of WBDD is led by the World HealthOrganization (WHO).

·         The slogan/theme for 2023 WBDD campaign is “Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often.”

 

9.        ‘PROJECT GAJAPATI TO GABON’

·         Project Gajapati to Gabon is Gabon’s first Agriculture SEZ Project & Power Transformers (T&D) Project

·         Under there will be establishment of Agriculture and Food Processing Special Economic Zone (Agri- SEZ).

·         The project is a Joint Venture (JV) of the Government of Gabon with Africa’s AOM Group as implementing partner and Odisha’s Centurion University of Technology and Management as knowledge, training and technology partner.

·         Gabon is a country in Central Africa.

·         Capital– Libreville

 

10.    INDIA TO ACQUIRE MQ-9 REAPER DRONE FROM THE USA

·         The Defence Acquisition Council(DAC), the highest decision-making body in the Ministry of Defence(MoD), has approved the deal the acquire the (USA).MQ-9 Reaper (Predator B) drones from the United States of America

·         At present, India has 2 american predator drones, on lease from american firm General Atomics, which have been assisting the Indian Navy in monitoring activities in the Indian Ocean region (IOR).

 

11.    INDIA TO OVERTAKE CHINA IN OIL DEMAND GROWTH BY 2027: IEA REPORT

·         According to the ‘Oil 2023′ Analysis and forecast to 2028 report released by International Energy Agency India will surpass China as the main driver of global oil demand growth by 2027 as consumption expands in fast-growing developing economies and contracts in the developed world.

·         The United States (US), China, and India are the world’s three largest oil consumers in that order.

·         The report mentioned India as the fastest-growing economy in the world, and projects Indian GDP to expand by 4.8% in 2023, rising to 6.3% in 2024 before recovering to an even stronger 7% in 2025-28.

12.    WORLD BANK FIRST ROAD SAFETY PROJECT IN SOUTH ASIA

·         The World Bank (WB) launched its first road safety project in South Asia with a USD 358 million financing agreement signed in Dhaka with the government of Bangladesh.

·         This project aims to improve road safety and reduce fatalities and injuries from road crashes in selected cities, high-risk highways, and district roads.

 

13.    SEBI REVISED RULES RELATING TO MINOR’S INVESTMENT IN MUTUAL FUND BY PARENT/GUARDIAN

·         Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) revised the rules under its 2019 circular to be followed across Asset Management Companies (AMCs) with respect to MF scheme investments made in the name of a minor (i.e. children about 10 to 18 years of age) through a parent/guardian.

·         As per the new rule, the  MF scheme investment payments (in any mode for subscription) could be accepted from any bank account i.e. the minor, parents or legal guardians, or a joint account in the name of a minor with parents or a legal guardian.

·         From now on, there will be no requirement to open joint accounts or accounts of a minor child for this particular investment purpose, as it could be done from any of three accounts i.e. the minor, parents or guardian.

·         In case of all redemptions from MF scheme investments (made in the name of the minor) at a later stage, the amount will be credited to the verified bank account of the minor alone (that can be a joint account also) after completing all Know Your Customer (KYC) formalities.

 

14.    MOEEN ALI AWARDED ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE (OBE)

·         England all-rounder Moeen Ali has been awarded OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his services to the game of cricket during the Queen’s birthday honours.

·         The Order of the British Empire was established by King George V in 1917 to honour those who had served in a non-combative role and expanded the Order to reward contributions to the Arts, Sciences, Charitable work and Public Service.

 

15.    BOOK ‘A LIFE WELL SPENT — FOUR DECADES IN THE INDIAN FOREIGN SERVICE’

·         Indian Ambassador Satish Chandra authored a book titled ‘A Life Well Spent – Four Decades in the Indian Foreign Service’ which covers four decades he served in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) from 1965 to 2005 as an IFS probationer to Deputy National Security Advisor.

·         Satish Chandra is currently being the Vice Chairman of the New Delhi-based think tank, influential brains trust, Vivekananda International Foundation.

 

16.    RAJASTHAN TOPS IN WIND ENERGY ADOPTION DURING FY 2022-23

·         Rajasthan, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu emerge Top Achievers in Wind Energy Adoption

·         Gujarat was honoured for achieving the highest wind capacity addition through open access.

·         Tamil Nadu was honoured for initiating the repowering of wind turbines.

·         The MoNRE joined the global celebration of Global Wind Day 2023 by organising the 1-day event under the central theme – “Pawan – Urja: Powering the Future of India”.

·         At present, the onshore wind potential of India is at 1,164 giga watt (GW) at 150m above ground level.

·         According to the data of MoNRE, India ranks 4th in the Wind power capacity in the world.

·         The government of India is committed to achieving the target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2030.

 

17.    TOP 10 COMPANIES GLOBALLY IN RE

·         Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable power producer and the Renewable Energy (RE) arm of the diversified Adani portfolio, has been ranked 1st in Asia and among the top 10 companies globally in the Renewable Energy sector by the Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Ratings.

·         AGEL has been placed in the ‘Prime’ (B+) band, recognizing its strong ESG disclosure practices and high level of transparency.

 

18.    KUWAIT PRIME MINISTER

·         Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has been re-elected as Kuwait’s Prime Minister(PM) following a decree (official order) issued by Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah

 

19.    CHINA LAUNCHES 41 SATELLITES INTO SPACE

·         China successfully launched 41 satellites into space using the Long March 2D rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre located in Shanxi province, China.

·         This resulted in a new national record for the highest number of satellites deployed in a single mission.

·         The primary purpose of these satellites is to provide commercial remote sensing services, conduct technology verification, and obtain high-definition images of the Earth.
