1.       PERU PRESIDENT

·         Keiko Fujimori, leader of the conservative Popular Force party, was declared the winner of Peru’s 2026 presidential election following a closely contested runoff.

·         She is scheduled to assume office on 28 July 2026, succeeding interim President José María Balcázar and becoming Peru’s 10th President in a decade.

·         She is the daughter of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori and a leading figure of the Fujimorism political movement.

 

2.       ATF PLAYER AMBASSADOR

·         Leander Paes was appointed as a Player Ambassador of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) to promote grassroots tennis, encourage youth participation and strengthen the sport across Asia.

·         A former World No. 1 in doubles, he won the bronze medal in men’s singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games in USA, remaining India’s only tennis player to win an Olympic medal.

·         He secured 18 Grand Slam titles and completed a Career Grand Slam in both categories.

·         The Government of India (GoI) honoured him with the Arjuna Award (1990), Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (1996–97), now known as the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2014).

·         In 2024, he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame under the player category.

 

3.        ‘VIJAY’ TRANSFORMATION ROADMAP FOR A FUTURE-READY FORCE

·         General Dhiraj Seth assumed charge as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army (IA) unveiled the ‘VIJAY (Vigilance, Innovation, Jointness and Integration, Aatmanirbharta and Yodha first)’ roadmap, aimed at building a technology-driven, future-ready force.

·         It Aligned with the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) ‘Decade of Transformation (2023–2032)’, it aims to build a digitized, technology-enabled, self-reliant (Aatmanirbhar), and multi-domain-capable force.

 

4.       29TH NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON E-GOVERNANCE

·         The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and Government of Rajasthan organised the 29th National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG) in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

·         Theme, “Viksit Bharat 2047: AI-enabled, Data-driven & Secure Digital Governance.”

·         The National Awards for e-Governance 2026 presented 17 awards across seven categories, comprising 10 Gold awards (Rs.10 lakh each), six Silver awards (Rs.5 lakh each), and one Jury Award.

 

5.       REPORT ON UDISE+ 2025-26 ON SCHOOL EDUCATION IN INDIA

·         The Ministry of Education (MoE) released the ‘Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2025-26’ report, providing comprehensive data on school education, including enrolment, teachers, infrastructure, retention, transition and gender parity.

·         According to the report, the number of teachers rose by 8.3% to 1,02,73,020 in 2025–26, from 94,83,294 in 2022–23.

·         Reported Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTRs) are Foundational 10, Preparatory 12, Middle 17, and Secondary 21, better than the National Education Policy’s recommended 30:1, enabling individualized learning.

·         Dropout rates declined across levels: Preparatory 1.8% (from 2.3%), Middle 3.6% (from 3.5%), Secondary 7.0% (from 8.2%), reflecting improved student retention.

·         Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) at Secondary increased to 71.7% (from 68.5% in 2024-25), indicating greater access and student participation at higher levels.

 

6.       JAPAN PM VISIT TO INDIA

·         Sanae Takaichi, PM of Japan was on a visit to India for 16th India-Japan Annual Summit in New Delhi.

·         During the summit, both countries announced 16 key outcomes expanding bilateral cooperation in Artificial Intelligence (AI), economic security, clean energy, critical minerals, mobility, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and financial services.

·         He attended the “Japan-India Joint Economic Forum”, hosted by the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in New Delhi.

·         The forum witnessed the inauguration of Maruti Suzuki’s 4th vehicle manufacturing facility at Kharkhoda (in Haryana).

·         Indian and Japanese companies signed at least 129 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 1 lakh crore.

·         4th India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial meeting will held in Tokyo (by the end of 2026).

·         India, Japan first ever defence co development project, involving Unified Complex Radio Antenna (UNICORN) system for IN, among others. was announced.

 

7.       GOOD GLOBAL COMMISSION

·         The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations (UN)-backed agency, launched the Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Good Global Commission with 44 founding members, in Geneva, Switzerland, to strengthen global AI governance, inclusion, and innovation frameworks.

·         Among the founding members, Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Bharti Mittal, and Lakshmi N. Mittal represent India on the global stage as leading business figures.

·         The Commission is co-chaired by Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, and Marc Benioff, Chair and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Salesforce while ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin serves as Vice-Chair.
