1. HARYANA’S
FIRST EXCLUSIVE GI PRODUCT
·
The Geographical
Indication Registry (GIR) under the Department
for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and
Industry (MoC&I), granted Geographical Indication (GI) tag to
Haryana’s Sirsa Kinnow, becoming the state’s 1st fruit to receive such
recognition.

At present, the total number of GI-tagged products in India stands at 822.
2. WSIS
PRIZE 2026
·
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT),
under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India (GoI), received
the World Summit on the Information
Society (WSIS) Prize 2026 under Action
Line C6 – Enabling Environment for its flagship initiative, “Samriddh
Gram: Integrated Phygital Service Delivery Model Enabled by BharatNet.

The
award was presented during the WSIS Forum 2026 held
in Geneva, Switzerland.

initiative was declared the Global
Winner by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Gram is a rural digital transformation initiative that leverages

3. WOMEN’S
T20 CRICKET WORLD CUP
·
The 2026 ICC Women’s Twenty20 World
Cup final was held in London, England.
·
Australia defeated England by
seven wickets chasing down 151 with 153/3 in 17.1 overs to secure a
record-extending seventh title.
·
The 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was the 10th edition of the biennial international
cricket tournament for women in the Twenty20 International (WT20I) format, hosted by the England and Wales Cricket
Board (ECB) across seven venues.
·
Indian
bowler Shree Charani headlined the tournament by taking 14
wickets, finishing as the Leading
Wicket-Taker of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Beth Mooney of
Australia won Player of the Final and
Tournament, and becomes first player
to win two Player of the Tournament awards in T20WC history (2023 and 2026).
4. INDIA’S
YOUNGEST INTERNATIONAL CRICKET DEBUTANT
·
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became India’s
youngest international cricket debutant at 15 years and 99
days, making his senior T20I debut against England at
Old Trafford, Manchester, England.

He
broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 36-year-old record, who debuted
for India against Pakistan in 1989 at 16
years and 205 days (Test) and 16
years and 238 days (One Day International.
·
He also
broke the record of Shafali Verma, India’s youngest overall international debutant at
15 years and 239 days against South Africa in 2019.
5. U15,
U20 ASIAN WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
·
The United World Wrestling (UWW) organised
the Under-15 (U15) & U20 Asian Wrestling Championships 2026 in Pattaya,
Thailand.
·
Indian wrestlers secured 20 medals in
the U20 category, including 4 gold, 7 silver, and 9 bronze medals, and 21 medals in
the U15 category, comprising 8 gold, 6 silver, and 7
bronze medals.
·
Under-15: Uzbekistan
topped the standings with
171 points, followed by Kazakhstan
with 167 points and India with 150 points.
·
India won
the bronze team trophy.
·
Under-20: India
finished second in Women’s Wrestling (WW) with 184 points, behind China (189) and ahead of Japan
(142).
6. INDIA’S
98TH CHESS GRANDMASTER
·
17-year-old Aswath S from
Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, became
India’s 98th Grandmaster (GM) at the Pune International
Grandmaster Round Robin Tournament in Pune.
7. BRITISH
GRAND PRIX 2026
·
Monaco’s Charles Leclerc of
Ferrari won the British Grand Prix (GP) 2026 at the Silverstone
Circuit in Northamptonshire, England.
·
Mercedes’ George Russell secured
second place, while Ferrari’s Lewis
Hamilton finished third.
8. ICC
HALL OF FAME
·
The International Cricket Council (ICC) inducted
former India captain Sourav Ganguly into the ICC
Hall of Fame during its Annual Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland.
·
The
honour, made Ganguly the 12th Indian overall and 10th
Indian male cricketer inducted into the Hall of Fame.
·
ICC Hall of Fame Launched
in January 2009 during the ICC’s centenary celebrations it, honours cricketers with outstanding
contributions to the sport, with eligibility beginning five years after their final international appearance.
9. RBI
IMPOSES PENALTY ON BOB & GIC HOUSING FINANCE
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed
a combined monetary penalty of Rs 66.7 lakh on Bank
of Baroda (BoB) and General Insurance Corporation of
India (GIC) Housing Finance for
non-compliance with regulatory directions, including Know Your Customer (KYC)
norms and lending guidelines.
·
Bank of Baroda: RBI
imposed a penalty of Rs 63.6 lakh for charging interest rates higher than the
contracted rates, failing to upload KYC records to the Central KYC Records
Registry (CKYCR) within the timelines, and non-compliance with the Fair
Practices Code for lenders.
·
GIC Housing Finance: A
penalty of Rs 3.1 lakh was imposed for deficiencies in compliance with Know
Your Customer (KYC) guidelines.
·
The Central KYC Records Registry (CKYCR) is a
centralized database managed by Central Registry of Securitisation
Asset Reconstruction and Security Interest of India (CERSAI) on
behalf of the Government of India(GoI) to store KYC records and streamline
customer verification across financial institutions.
