1. STATE BANK OF INDIA LAUNCHED INDIA’S FIRST ‘GREEN CAR LOAN’

✔State Bank of India has launched India’s first ‘Green Car Loan’ to encourage customers to buy electric vehicles. The new scheme ‘Green Car Loan’ will offer the loan at 20 basis points lower than the interest rate on the existing car loan schemes.

✔SBI has already notified 100% migration to Electric Vehicles by 2030 in order to decrease carbon footprints, thus being in line with the government’s pledge of ensuring 30% EVs on road by 2030.

2. UAE BASED ETIHAD AIRWAYS BECOMES FIRST MAJOR AIRLINE TO OPERATE PLASTIC-FREE FLIGHT

✔Etihad Airways, UAE based flag carrier, has become the first major airline in the Gulf region to operate a flight without any single-use plastics on board. The objective is to raise awareness about pollution. Etihad Airways has pledged to reduce single-use plastic usage by 80% across the entire organization by the end of 2022.

3. RBI SELLS ENTIRE STAKE IN NHB, NABARD TO GOVERNMENT FOR INR 1,470 CRORE

✔The Reserve Bank of India has divested its entire stake held in National Housing Bank, and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to the government, which now holds 100% in these entities.

✔The transactions were completed in February and March. RBI had 100% shareholding in NHB, which was divested for INR 1,450 crore. RBI had 72.5% stake in Nabard, out of which 71.5%, worth INR 1,430 crore was divested in October 2010 and the residual shareholding was divested in February 2019 for INR 20 crore.

1. INDONESIA RELEASES RAMAYANA STAMP

✔Indonesia released a special stamp on the theme of Ramayana at the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Indonesia.

✔Indonesian sculptor Padmashri Bapak Nyoman Nuart designed the stamp and it features a scene from Hindu epic Ramayana in which Jatayu valiantly fought to save Sita. A specially signed version of the stamp will be on display at the philately museum, jakarta.

2. INDIA TO BE GUEST OF HONOUR COUNTRY AT 29TH ABU DHABI INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR

✔The 29th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair started and India has been nominated as the “Guest of Honour” country which reflects the strong relations between the leadership and the people of the UAE and India.

✔The fair aims to highlight the UAE’s rich heritage, showcase its authenticity, and cultural. Navdeep Suri, Indian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates launched his book, “Inked in Blood and Spirit of Freedom” which is the English translation of poem ‘Khooni Baisakhi’ on  Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

1. THE AUTHORISED CAPITAL OF ALLAHABAD BANK RAISED TO RS. 8000 CRORE BY THE GOVERNMENT

✔The central government has increased the authorized capital of state-owned Allahabad Bank from Rs. 3,000 crore to Rs. 8,000 crore after consultation with the Reserve Bank of India.

✔This move by the central government has enabled Allahabad bank to raise further fund up to a maximum ceiling of Rs. 8,000 crore.

2. DEPOSITS IN JAN DHAN ACCOUNTS ARE SET TO CROSS RS 1 LAKH CRORE MARK

✔The total deposits in Jan Dhan Account are set to cross Rs 1 lakh crore soon. The scheme was launched on 28th August 2014 by the Modi-government with an aim to provide universal access to banking facilities to all households.

✔The total balance in the Jan Dhan accounts was at Rs 97,665.66 and the total number of Jan Dhan accounts crossed 35.39 crores. Also, more than 27.89 crores account holders have been issued the Rupay debit cards.

✔Recently, the government increased the accident insurance cover to Rs 2 lakh from Rs 1 lakh for new accounts opened after 28th August 2018 and the overdraft limit was also doubled to Rs 10,000.
