1. BILATERAL AIR EXERCISE ‘DESERT KNIGHT-21’

      Indian Air Force (IAF) and French Air and Space Force (FASF) participated in the 1st Edition of Bilateral Air Exercise ‘Exercise Desert Knight-21 (Ex DK-21)’ held at Air Force Station, Jodhpur for 5 days from January 20-24, 2021.

      The Bilateral exercise involved the participation of Rafale fighter jets from both sides.

      India & France are also jointly set to conduct wargames codenamed Exercise SKYROS in January at Jodhpur.

 

2. TRI-SERVICE MILITARY EXERCISE ‘AMPHEX-21’

      Indian Navy conducted an Joint Tri-Service Amphibious Military Exercise  ‘AMPHEX-21’ in Andaman & Nicobar group of Islands .

      Defence Exercise ‘KAVACH’ for defence of Andaman & Nicobar Islands was also a part of AMPHEX-21 exercise.

      The forces demonstrated joint capabilities of Intelligence gathering from space, air, land & sea based assets, analyzing & sharing them on a real-time basis to enable quick decision making during battle times.

 

3. AMIT SHAH LAUNCHED ‘AYUSHMAN CAPF’ SCHEME

      Union Minister Amit Shah launched the ‘Ayushman CAPF’ scheme for personnel and dependents of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), which will be fully implemented by May 1, 2021.

      It will cover around 28 lakh personnel of CAPF, Assam Rifles and National Security Guard (NSG) and their families under ‘Ayushman Bharat: Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana’ (AB PM-JAY).

 

4. 51ST INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF INDIA 2021

      The 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) was held at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Panaji, Goa.

      Due to COVID-19, it was conducted in hybrid mode i.e. 50 films out of 224 films across various categories are scheduled to be screened online.

      This hybrid mode format of IFFI was first in India and in Asia too.

      The epic World War II Danish film Into the Darkness (De forbandede år) won Golden Peacock Awards.Veteran actor, director and producer Biswajit Chatterjee has been presented with the Indian Personality of the Year Award on the occasion.

      This year the ‘country of focus section’ was Bangladesh marking its 50th anniversary of liberation.

      Its 4 films were screened under this category.

 

5. REPORT ON AGEING DAMS IN THE WORLD

      United Nations University – Institute for Water, Environment & Health (UNU-INWEH)  released a report called ‘Ageing Water Storage Infrastructure: An Emerging Global Risk’, the report states that ageing of large dams is an emerging Global Development issue as they pose threats to human safety & environment.

      Globally, around 10,000 more dams have reached or exceeded the ‘alert’ age limit of 50 years & many dams are expected to approach 100 years soon.

      In India, around 1, 115 large dams are set to reach the ~50 years mark by 2025.

 

6. WORLD’S FASTEST GROWING MATURE TECH ECOSYSTEM

      Dealroom.co data analysed by London & Partners(the Mayor of London’s international trade and investment agency) has revealed that Bengaluru, Karnataka has emerged as the world’s fastest growing mature tech ecosystem, with investment in it increased 5.4 times  from USD 1.3 billion in 2016 to USD 7.2 billion in 2020.

      The list is followed by London, Munich, Berlin, Paris.

      Mumbai, Maharashtra secures  6th place with investment in it growing 1.7 times from USD 0.7 billion in 2016 to USD 1.2 billion in 2020.

 

7. SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE AAPDA PRABANDHAN PURASKAR 2021

      Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2021 was awarded to Dr. Rajendra Kumar Bhandari under Individual category, while Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society (SEEDS) received the award under Institutional category for their contribution in disaster management.

      The award is annually announced on January 23 on the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

 

8. BLOOMBERG BILLIONAIRES INDEX

      In accordance with the latest data by Bloomberg Billionaire Index, Mukesh Ambani has now moved up to 11th spot from 13th spot with a total net worth of $79.2 billion (5.78 lakh crore).

      The jump comes as the profit of Reliance Industries soared 12.5% to Rs 131 billion during the Q3FY21.

      He surpassed Larry Ellison of Oracle Corporation and world’s richest woman Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, with a net worth at $78.4 billion and $72.2 billion, respectively.

 

9. LAUNCHING OF 143 SATELLITES IN SINGLE LAUNCH

      SpaceX  successfully created a New World Record by launching 143 Satellites in a single mission.

      The satellites were launched using the Falcon 9 Reusable rockets  from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, United States of America.

      With this, SpaceX bettered Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) record of deploying 104 satellites in a single mission in February 2017.

      The Launch is also the first dedicated mission for SpaceX under SmallSat ‘Rideshare’ program called Transporter-1.

      Objective – With the launch of the satellites, SpaceX is planning to provide Global broadband internet coverage by 2021.

 

10. “UNION BUDGET MOBILE APP”

      Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched the “Union Budget Mobile App” which will provide access to Union Budget Information to all the stakeholders.

      For the first time in History the Budget will be delivered in paperless form.

      The app was developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) under the guidance of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA).

 

11. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF EDUCATION 2021

      The United Nations(UN)’s International Day of Education is annually observed on 24th January to celebrate the role of education for peace and development.

      The theme of the 3rd International day of Education is “Recover and Revitalize Education for the COVID-19 Generation”.

 

12. NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY

      National Girl Child Day is observed annually on January 24 to raise awareness about the rights of the girl child and importance of their education, health and nutrition. The year 2021 marks 13th National Girl Child Day.

      Rajasthan Govt has initiated a new scheme called Ek Paudha Suposhit Beti Ke Naam or A plant on the name of well nourished daughter’ under BBBP scheme.

      Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched a scheme namely, ‘PANKH(Protection Awareness Nutrition Knowledge Health) Abhiyan’ under the BBBP scheme to support the girl child’s empowerment and their growth.

 

13. NATIONAL VOTERS DAY

      The National Voters Day is annually celebrated across India on 25th January to spread awareness among the voters and to promote informed participation in the electoral process.25th January 2021, marks the celebration of the 11th National Voters Day by Election Commission of India (ECI).

      The theme of the National Voters Day 2021 is “Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed”.

 

14. NATIONAL TOURISM DAY 2021

      National Tourism Day is annually observed across India on 25th January to encourage tourism in India and to highlight the role of tourism in the economic development of the nation.

      The theme of National Tourism Day 2021 is “Dekho Apna Desh”.
