1. INDIAN NAVY-EUROPEAN UNION NAVAL FORCE EXERCISE

          The inauguration edition of the Joint Naval Exercise between Indian Navy (IN) & European Union Naval Force Somalia (EU NAVFOR also known as Operation Atalanta) took place at Gulf of Aden from June 18-19, 2021.

 

2. CONFERENCE OF BRICS NETWORK UNIVERSITIES

          Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay virtually hosted the 3-day long Conference of BRICS Network Universities, under the theme – “Electric Mobility”.

          This conference is a part of the 13th BRICS Summit which is set to be held in 2021, under the Chairship of India.

          All the 5 BRICS countries will discuss on various aspects of Electric Mobility (e-Mobility) like – Traffic Management, Hydrogen technology, Hybrid vehicles, Lithium-ion batteries to boost Electric Vehicles (e-Vehicles) usage.

 

3. UNCTAD REPORT

          According to the ‘World Investment Report 2021’ released by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) – India received  Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows worth USD 64 billion in 2020 making it the 5th largest recipient of inflows in the world.

          The US with 156 Billion was the top destination for FDI in 2020 followed by China (USD 149 billion) & Hong Kong, China (USD 119 billion).

          India was ranked 8th in the UNCTAD’s 2020 Report based on its FDI Inflows.

          Countries with Largest FDI outflows are China (133 billion), Luxembourg (127 billion) & Japan (116 billion).

          India was ranked 18th with USD 12 billion (compared to USD 13 billion in 2019).

 

4. CEU OPEN SOCIETY PRIZE 2021

          K K Shailaja, Teacher and Former Kerala Health Minister was awarded with the Central European University’s (CEU) highest award – ‘Open Society Prize 2021’ for her commitment to public health services.

          She has recognized especially for her determined leadership and community-based public health work, saving lives during COVID-19.

 

5. WORLD BANK-IMF HLAG

          Montek Singh Ahluwalia, former Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India and the distinguished person at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP), was named as a member of a ‘High-Level Advisory Group (HLAG) on Sustainable and Inclusive Recovery and Growth’ formed by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

 

6. 2021 FRENCH GP

          Red Bull Racing Honda’s Max Verstappen (Netherlands) won the 2021 French Grand Prix (GP) held at Paul Ricard Circuit, France. 

          It was the 7th GP of 2021.

          Mercedes’ driver Lewis Hamilton (Britain) finished 2nd, while Red Bull Racing Honda’s Sergio Perez (Mexico) finished 3rd in the race.

 

7. WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2021 – JUNE 20

          The United Nations(UN)’s World Refugee Day is annually observed across the globe on 20th June to support and protect the refugees across the globe and focus on the inclusion of refugees in Healthcare, education and sports.

          The theme of World Refugee Day 2021 is “Together we heal, learn and shine”.

 

8. WORLD HYDROGRAPHY DAY 2021 – 21 JUNE

          World Hydrography Day is annually observed across the globe on 21st June to highlight the importance of hydrography and its relevance.

          The theme of World Hydrography Day 2021 is “One Hundred Years Of International Cooperation In Hydrography”.

 

9. WORLD MUSIC DAY 2021 – JUNE 21

          The World Music Day, also known as FĂȘte de la Musique in French, is annually observed across the globe on 21st June to honour the musicians and singers across the globe.

          The day is celebrated to motivate the growing young and professional musicians.

          The day is celebrated across the globe by various organisations through virtual concerts, and competitions.

 

10. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA OBSERVED ON JUNE 21

          United Nations (UN) International Day of Yoga (IDY) is annually celebrated on June 21 all over the world.

          This year 2021 marks 7th International Day of Yoga.

          The day aims to raise awareness and promote the benefits of practicing yoga worldwide.

          The theme of IDY 2021 is ‘Yoga for well-being’.

 

11. KHEDO PUNJAB MOBILE APP

          RanaGurmit Singh Sodhi, Minister of Sports and Youth Service, Government of Punjab launched the special mobile app “Khedo Punjab” to make the sports department and all sportspersons of the state of Punjab available on the digital platform.

 

12. NEW JOB CREATION UNDER IBPS SCHEME

          Andhra Pradesh has generated the highest employment in India under the IBPS Scheme (India Business Process Outsourcing Promotion Scheme) by creating 12, 234 new jobs.

          Tamil Nadu came 2nd by creating 9, 401 jobs, while the remaining jobs were spread across Punjab, Odisha, Maharashtra and others.

          Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh received the distinction for providing employment to a large number of youth under the IBPS scheme.

          The IBPS scheme was launched in 2014 under Digital India Programme to incentivize establishment of 48, 300 seats under BPO/ITES (Business Process Outsource/Information Technology Enabled Services) operations across India.

 

13.“JAANHAITOJAHAANHAI” CAMPAIGN

          Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Union Minister for Minority Affairs, launched a nationwide “JaanHaiToJahaanHai” campaign to create awareness about corona vaccination in rural and remote areas of India.

          The campaign was launched from the Primary Health Centre, Chamraua in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.

          Aim: To eliminate the rumours and apprehensions related to the ongoing vaccination drive.

 

14.TARGET TO INCREASE PMBJKS TO 10000

          The government of India has set a target to increase the number of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras(PMBJKs) to 10000 by March 2024.

          As of 11th June 2021, the number of PMBJKs is 7836 and the state of Himachal Pradesh has around 66 Janaushadhi Kendras.

          The Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI), established in December 2008, is the implementation agency for the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras(PMBJKs).

 

15.5G NETWORK SOLUTIONS FOR INDIA

          Bharti Airtel & Tata Group have announced a strategic partnership for implementing ‘Made in India’ 5G network solutions for India. 

          The 5G Technology will be based on ‘O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network)’ based Radio and NSA/SA (Non-Standalone/standalone) Core Technology.

          The Tata Group has developed the O-RAN technology indigenously.

          The usage of O-RAN technology reduces network costs by around 40% and is more efficient.

 

16.‘AMBASSADOR OF FOREST FRONTLINE HEROES’ BY WWF INDIA

          The Managing Director of Apollo Life (Lifetime Wellness Rx International Limited), UpasanaKamineniKondinela, has been named as an ‘Ambassador of Forest Frontline Heroes’ by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) India.

          Her appointment was made to recognize the efforts of frontline workers or field level forest staff protecting wildlife and habitats.

 

17.ICC’S CHIEF PROSECUTOR

          British human rights lawyer Karim Khan has been elected as the new chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court(ICC) by its member countries.

          He is elected for a period of 9-years from June,2021.

 

18.‘KRISHAKBANDHU’ SCHEME DOUBLING FARMERS’ AID TO RS 10000

          Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister (CM) of West Bengal (WB) relaunched the revised “KrishakBandhu” scheme, a financial scheme for the farmers of West Bengal.

          Objective – Under the revised scheme the annual benefits have been doubled from Rs 5000 to Rs 10000 for farmers with one acre or more cultivable land.

          Beneficiaries – Around 68.38 lakh small and marginal farmers will be benefited from the Scheme.
