150 INDIAN VILLAGES TO CONVERT INTO ‘VILLAGES OF EXCELLENCE’
·
The
Central Government will convert 150 villages around Centres of Excellence
(CoEs) into ‘Villages of Excellence’ in 12 States with technical assistance from
Israel government.
·
75
villages will be taken up in the first year to commemorate the 75th year of
India’s independence.
·
India
and Israel also completed its 30 years of diplomatic relation.
2.
SBI LISTS $300 MILLION VIA TAIWAN’S FORMOSA BONDS ON INDIA INX
·
The State
Bank of India (SBI) listed its 1st USD 300 million Formosa bonds on India
International Exchange IFSC (India INX).
·
SBI
became the first Indian entity to raise money through Formosa Bond.
·
Through
the issuance, India INX became the first Exchange in IFSC (International
Financial Services Centre) to list Formosa Bonds issued by SBI.
·
SBI,
acting through its London branch, raised USD 300 million of ‘Regulation S’
Formosa bonds at a coupon rate of 2.49 percent.
·
Formosa bond -It
is a bond issued in Taiwan and listed on the Taipei Exchange.
·
The
bond is dominated by currencies other than the New Taiwan dollar.
·
In
order to qualify as Formosa bond issuers, borrowers need to have an investment
grade or credit ratings of BBB or higher.
3.
RBI IMPOSES RESTRICTIONS ON INDIAN MERCANTILE COOPERATIVE
BANK
·
The
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed several restrictions on Indian Mercantile
Cooperative Bank Limited, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh including a cap of Rs 1 lakh
on withdrawals.
·
RBI
issued the directions in the exercise of powers vested in it under sub section
(1) of Section 35 A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act (As
Applicable to Cooperative Societies), 1949.
·
Cooperative Banks: There are three types of co-operative banks organised at
three levels, village or town level, district level and state level.
·
They
are primary credit societies, central cooperative banks and state co-operative
banks.

Meta
(formerly Facebook) has joined hands with Federation of Indian Chambers of
Commerce & Industry (FICCI) to support five lakh women-led small businesses
across India under its #SheMeansBusiness programme.
·
This
announcement was made during the Meta’s 1st National Women Entrepreneurship
Summit 2022 which was held in virtual mode to encourage and support the Micro,
Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across sectors.
·
Under
this partnership, Meta will support via three initiatives viz. Facebook
Business Coach, Grow your Business Hub, and Meta’s Commerce Partners Program

DAY CAMP

Prime
Minister(PM) Narendra Modi honoured the Maharashtra Directorate of the National
Cadet Corps (NCC) with the Prime Minister’s Banner at the Republic Day
Camp(RDC).

Cadets
of 17 NCC directorates from various states participated in the month-long 2022
Republic Day camp.

Pakistan’s
Shaheen Shah Afridi has been awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC
Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2021.

Mohammad
Babar Azam, captain of Pakistan’s cricket team has been honoured with the ICC
Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2021
·
Joe
Root, Test Captain of England has won the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year
2021.
·
The
Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy is named after Sir Garfield Sobers, former captain
of West Indies.
·
Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 2021 : Smriti Mandhana of India won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy
for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2021.
·
The
ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award instituted in 2006 has been named after
Rachael Heyhoe-Flint, the erstwhile English Women’s cricketer and
administrator.

Zealand cricketer, Daryl Mitchell, has been named the winner of the
International Cricket Council(ICC) Spirit of Cricket Award 2021

TX2 AWARD 2022 FOR DOUBLING TIGER POPULATION SINCE 2010
·
India’s
Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) in Erode, Tamil Nadu, and Nepal’s Bardiya
National Park has jointly won the TX2 award 2022 for doubling their tiger
populations since 2010.
·
The
Nilgiri biosphere landscape is currently the home to the largest tiger
population in the world.
·
The
award for Tiger Conservation Excellence was presented to Khata Forest
Conservation Area in Nepal a network of 74 community forests covering 202
sq km, which secures transboundary connectivity for tigers between Nepal
and India.

GOVT APPOINTS ANANTHA NAGESWARAN AS CHIEF ECONOMIC ADVISOR OF
INDIA

The Union
government appointed Dr V Anantha Nageswaran as the Chief Economic
Advisor (CEA) for the Ministry of Finance. He will succeed K V
Subramanian
·
This
year the economic survey will be presented as a Single part, instead of the
normal 2 part report.
·
Economic
Survey is an annual document that details sector wise economic development in
India in the previous budget year. CEA is the principal author of the Economic
Survey.
·
Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) examines national and international economic trends and also
undertakes research studies focusing on economic policies and management of the
economy.
·
Based
on the research, the CEA provides advice to the Government of India regarding
economic policy and reforms.
·
The
CEA helps in preparing the government’s annual Economic Survey preceding
the Union Budget.
·
V
Anantha Nageswaran: has
been a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister
(PM) of India from 2019 to 2021.
10.
PARLIAMENT LAUNCHES DIGITAL SANSAD APP TO MAKE LIVE
PROCEEDINGS OF PARLIAMENT

The
Lok Sabha secretariat has launched a new app, ‘Digital Sansad’, an initiative
of Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, to make the Parliament proceedings accessible
to the public at large.
·
The
app helps in accessing services such as checking personal updates like status
of their notices, House bulletins, and so on.
·
It
also includes services like enabling the Member of Parliament (MPs) to log in
for attendance, give questions for the Question Hour or submit notices for
debates or adjournment motions, in future.
·
The
citizens can now easily access general information on MPs, on budget speeches
since 1947, House discussions from 12th Lok Sabha to 17th Lok Sabha.
·
The
App will also contain the live telecast of Sansad proceedings, the major news
of the day, virtual tour of the Parliament and live 2022 Budget session.

BOOK – ‘THE $10 TRILLION DREAM’
·
A new
book titled “The $10 Trillion Dream” authored by former finance secretary
Subhash Chandra Garg is set to be launched in February 2022.
·
The
book explores the economic policy issues of India and suggests reformative
ideas to make India a USD 10 trillion economy by the mid-2030s.
·
Subhash
Chandra Garg, previously served as Economic Affairs Secretary and Finance
Secretary of India in 2019 also served as an executive director in the World
Bank.
