1. UN STATE OF FOOD SECURITY AND NUTRITION IN THE WORLD REPORT
·
The United States (US) has released a report titled ‘The
State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World Report 2022 (SOFI
2022)- Transforming food systems for food security, improved nutrition and
affordable healthy diets for all’,
·
Report stated that the year 2020 saw a rise in the moderate
or severe food insecurity (based on the Food Insecurity Experience Scale) at
the global level to 30.4%, which is nearly as much as in the previous five
years combined.
·
2.3 billion people, an estimated 29.3 percent of the global
population were moderately or severely food insecure, and 11.7 percent (923.7
million people) faced severe food insecurity.
·
Globally, one in three people did not have access to adequate
food in 2020, an increase of 320 million people from 2.05 in 2019 to 2.37
billion in 2020.
·
Out of 2.37 billion, around 928 million people faced food
insecurity at severe levels.
·
This represents 11.9% of the global population.
·
In 2021, 31.9 percent of women in the world were moderately
or severely food insecure compared to 27.6 percent of men, a gap of more than 4
percentage points, compared with 3 percentage points in 2020.
·
The report was jointly established by five UN agencies viz.
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural
Development (IFAD), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), World Food Programme
(WFP), and World Health Organization (WHO).
2. INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC RESILIENCE (IER) 2022
RANKING

According to data released by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (PHDCCI), India has consistently improved its position in the ranking
of International Economic Resilience (IER) 2022 of top 10 countries, over the
last four years.
·
Among the top 10 leading economies, the Indian economy has risen from 6th place in 2019 to 4th place in
2020, 3rd place in 2021, and 2nd in
2022.
·
The IER rank analysis is based on five major macroeconomic
indicators.
·
Germany and Canada both
ranked first in the IER 2022 and china 3rd
3. ‘ORDER OF THE RISING SUN’ AWARD
·
The Government of Japan has conferred the Order of the Rising
Sun, Gold and Silver Star award on Narayanan Kumar, Vice Chairman of the Sanmar
Group, for his contribution to strengthening economic relations between Japan
and India.
·
Narayanan Kumar also heads the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce
and Industry since 2015.
4. 2022 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX
·
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has won the 2022 Austrian
Grand Prix, a formula one race.
·
Verstappen finishing 2nd position and Mercedes’
seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton finishing third in the race.
5. ‘THE GODFATHER’ ACTOR JAMES CAAN PASSED AWAY
·
The renowned American actor, James Edmund Caan passed away at
the age of 82 years in California, the United States of America(USA).
·
He is best known for playing the Sonny Corleone character
in ‘The Godfather’ film.
6. FATHER OF INDIAN INTERNET, BK SYNGAL PASSES AWAY
·
Brijendra Kumar Syngal(BK Syngal), former Chairman of Videsh
Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL), was a pioneer in the Indian Telecommunication Sector
and was referred to as the “Father of Indian Internet” has passed away at the
age of 82.
·
Syngal’s biggest accomplishments was bringing the Internet to
India in 1995 where, until then India was using the rudimentary version of the
internet, called ERNET, that was limited to educational institutes.
7. WORLD POPULATION DAY 2022 – JULY 11
·
The United Nations(UN)’s World Population Day is annually
observed across the globe on 11th July to focus on the urgency and importance
of population issues and their relation to environment and development issues.
·
The theme for this year is “A world of
8 billion: Towards a resilient future for all – Harnessing opportunities and
ensuring rights and choices for all”
8. NATIONAL STUDENTS DAY 2022- JULY 9
·
India celebrates National Students Day annually on 9th July
to commemorate the foundation of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a
student organization.
·
Objective is To bring positive changes in the Indian
education system.
·
The ABVP was initially formed in 1948, it got formally
registered on 9 July 1949,as a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) under
Societies Registration Act 1860
