1.          DRDO & INDIAN NAVY SUCCESSFULLY FLIGHT-TEST VL-SRSAM IN ODISHA COAST

·            The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), and Indian Navy successfully flight tested Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha

·            The test was carried out from an Indian Naval Ship (INS) against a high-speed unmanned aerial target.

·            The missiles, equipped with indigenous Radio Frequency (RF) seeker, intercepted the target with high accuracy.

·            VL-SRSAM is based on Astra Mark 1 air-to-air missile and it has been designed to strike high-speed airborne targets at the range of 40 to 50 km and at an altitude of around 15 km.

 

2.          PM MODI FORMALLY INAUGURATES HOMI BHABHA CANCER HOSPITAL IN PUNJAB

·            Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi dedicated the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre to the nation at Mohali, Punjab,

·            The Cancer Hospital is a 300-bed tertiary care hospital established at a cost of about Rs. 684 crore by Tata Memorial Centre, a grant-in-aid institution under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India (GoI).

·            PM Narendra Modi also inaugurated the Amrita Hospital in Faridabad, Haryana

·            Amrita Hospital is a 2600-bed super-speciality private hospital built at a cost of Rs. 6000 crore and administered by Mata Amritanandamayi Math.

 

3.          RBI IMPOSES RESTRICTIONS ON THODUPUZHA URBAN CO-OPERATIVE BANK FOR 6 MONTHS

·            The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in exercise of powers conferred under sub section (1) of Section 35A of the Banking Regulation (BR) Act, 1949, read with Section 56 of BR Act, 1949 imposes restrictions on Thodupuzha Urban Co-operative Bank, Kerala for 6 months starting August 23, 2022, and are subject to review.

·            On the other hand, RBI has lifted the restrictions imposed on American Express Banking Corp. (AEBC) after the latter has demonstrated satisfactory compliance with regard to Storage of Payment System Data.

 

4.          CUP INDIA TOUR OF ZIMBABWE ODI SERIES 2022

·            Indian Cricket Team has won the Kajaria Cup India Tour of Zimbabwe One Day International (ODI) Series 2022 (3-0) 

·            India’s opener Shubman Gill (22 years) broke legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s 24-year old record by scoring his maiden international century against Zimbabwe in the third ODI.

 

5.          WORLD WATER WEEK 2022- AUGUST 23 TO SEPTEMBER 1

·            World Water Week is annually observed across the globe on the last week of August to address the global water issues and related concerns of international development.

·            The World Water Week is an annual event organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).

·            The theme of the 2022 World Water Week is “Seeing the unseen: The value of water”.

 

6.          J&K – FIRST TO ESTABLISH ATAL TINKERING LABS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NITI AAYOG

·            The Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) became the first amongst States/UTs to establish an Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) in partnership with the government think tank NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog.

·            To foster entrepreneurship and innovation, Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog established over 10000 ATLs across India so far enabling more than 3 Million students between Grade VI to Grade XII to acquire a problem-solving, tinkering and innovative mindset.

·            Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs)  is established at schools across India under the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) of the NITI Ayog, with a vision to “cultivate one million children in India as neoteric innovators”.

·            Atal Innovation Mission (AIM)  is the flagship initiative of the government to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in India. It was set up in 2016 under NITI Aayog.The initiatives of the AIM are:

  • Atal Tinkering Labs
  • Atal Incubation Centres
  • Atal New India Challenge
  • Mentor of Change Program
  • Atal Community Innovation Center
  • Aatmanirbhar Bharat Atal Research & Innovation for Small Enterprises (ARISE)
  • Vernacular innovation program

 

7.          RBI IMPOSES RS 2.33 CRORE MONETARY PENALTY ON SPANDANA SPHOORTY FINANCIAL LIMITED

·            The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a Monetary Penalty of Rs 2.33 crore on SpandanaSphoorty Financial Limited, Hyderabad-based finance firm for non-compliance with certain provisions and failed to attach to credit pricing guidelines for Non-Banking Financial Company- Micro Finance Institutions (NBFC-MFIs).

·            The penalty has been imposed under the provisions of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.

 

8.          DR SAMIR V KAMAT APPOINTED AS DRDO CHAIRMAN

·            The Ministry of Defence (MoD) appointed Dr Samir V Kamat as the new Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development (R&D).

·            He succeeded Dr G Satheesh Reddy who will take charge as Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri (Defence Minister).
