1. ICAO AVIATION SAFETY RANKING: INDIA’S GLOBAL RANKING INCREASES TO 48
· According to the latest aviation safety
ranking released by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), India’s ranking has risen
to 48th, up from 102nd in 2018. The ranking, which also ranks India
ahead of China (49), is the best ever obtained by India.
·
India now ranks above China (49), Israel
(50), Turkey (54), Denmark (55) and Poland (60), in terms of effective
implementation of key safety elements, with a score of 85.49%.
·
ICAO, a Specialized Agency of the United
Nations, ranked about 187 countries after auditing various parameters of their
aviation safety system.
·
At 99.69%, Singapore took the top spot in the list of countries with the best
aviation safety; followed by United Arab Emirates (98.8%) and South Korea
(98.24%).

PRIME GLOBAL CITIES INDEX Q3 2022

According to the “Prime Global Cities Index Q3 2022” published
by property consultant Knight Frank, Mumbai (Maharashtra) ranked 22nd in this
global index that analyses the annual price appreciation of premium residential
properties.

Knight Frank reports that in the third
quarter (Q3—July-September) of 2022, average annual prices increased in three
Indian cities—Mumbai, Bengaluru (Karnataka), and New Delhi (Delhi).

ISSF PRESIDENT’S CUP SHOOTING

an Indian shooter, has won the International
Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) President’s Cup 2022 in
Cairo, Egypt, by defeating Italy’s Danilo Sollazzo in the 10-metre (m) rifle

With this victory, RudrankkshPatil has
made it to the world No. 1 in
the latest International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Rankings for men’s
10m air rifle shooters.
·
In addition, RudrankshPatil earned
India’s first Olympic quota for the ‘2024 Paris Olympics’ when he won the men’s
10-m air rifle event at the ISSF Rifle-Pistol World Championships 2022, held in
Cairo in October 2022.

ace, has won silver medal in the women’s 50-m rifle in 3 positions (3P)

INDIA’S 1ST GOLD ATM COMES UP IN
HYDERABAD

Hyderabad (Telangana)-based GoldsikkaPvt Ltd has set up
India’s 1st Gold
Automated teller machine (ATM) and started its operations in the city at
Raghupathi Chambers in Begumpet, Hyderabad.
·
Gold ATMs will be available for 24
hours.
·
Customers can use a debit or credit card
to buy gold coins through the ATM.
·
Gold ATM supplies in denominations
ranging from a minimum of 0.5 gms to a maximum of 100 gms.

WORLDLINE INDIA REPORT ON
DIGITAL PAYMENTS
·
According to the “India Digital Payments Report Q3 2022” released
by financial services company Worldline India, more than 23 billion digital
payment transactions worth Rs. 38.32 trillion were made in July-September (Q3)
2022.
·
These payments were made through prepaid
payment options such mobile wallets, debit and credit cards, and the Unified
Payments Interface (UPI).
·
UPI recorded
more than 19.65 billion transactions worth Rs. 32.5 trillion in Q3 2022.
·
The top 3 UPI apps in terms of volume and value as of Q3 2022
were PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm Payments Bank App.
·

MINISTER’S PRIZE IN AUSTRALIA

Veena Nair, an Indian-origin teacher in
Melbourne, Australia, has received the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science 2022
under the Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in
Secondary Schools category.

Veena Nair, STEAM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Project Leader and Head of Technology at
Viewbank College, Melbourne, Australia, was honoured for demonstrating the
practical application of STEAM to students, and how to use their skills to make
a real impact in the world.

The 2022 Prime Minister’s Prize
recognises 12 of the country’s leading scientists, innovators and science

‘GOBLIN MODE’: OXFORD DICTIONARIES
WORD OF THE YEAR 2022
·
The Oxford English Dictionary has chosen
‘Goblin mode’ as the word of the year 2022 by an online vote. Goblin Mode
received 93% of the votes against contenders “metaverse” (2nd) and
“#IStandWith”(3rd).
·
‘Goblin mode’ is a slang
term, that refers to the type of behaviour which is unapologetically
self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects
social norms or expectations.
·
‘#IStandWith’ has been used to show support
for a variety of causes, with evidence indicating an increase in internet
searches in 2022 compared to 2021.

LOCAL ADAPTATION CHAMPIONS AWARD AT
COP27 CLIMATE SUMMIT

SwayamShikshanPrayog
(SSP),
a Maharashtra based Non-Government Organisation (NGO) won the Local Adaptation
Champions Award organised by the Global Centre on Adaptation, at the Conference
of Parties (COP) 27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
·
SwayamShikshanPrayog won the award
under ‘capacity and knowledge’ category for its work in
supporting women farmers to adopt more resilient and sustainable
agricultural practices in Marathwada in Maharashtra.
·
SSP has trained more than 3 lakh rural
women across India to adapt climate change with this model which is being
implemented in 8 districts in Maharashtra (Osmanabad, Solapur, Latur, Landed, Washim,
Aurangabad, Ahmednagar and Jalna).
