EGYPTIAN
PRESIDENT ABDEL FATTAH EL-SISI VISIT TO INDIA
·
Abdel Fattah Saeed
Hussein Khalil El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, visited India
for 3 days from January 24 – 27, 2023 at the invitation of Indian Prime
Minister (PM) Narendra Modi to attend India’s 74th Republic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest.
·
India and Egypt have
resolved to upgrade their ties to the “strategic partnership” level, covering a
wide range of sectors such as politics, security, defence, energy, and economy,
with the signing of various Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

EPFO
LAUNCHES PROGRAM “NIDHI AAPKE NIKAT 2.0”
·
“Nidhi Aapke Nikat
2.0” is a district outreach program in
all the districts of the country by Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s
(EPFO)
·
Nidhi Aapke Nikat 2.0
will be conducted on the 27th of every month at all district headquarters of
EPFO (starting from January 2023) to reach out to all the districts of the
country on the same day.
·
Under Nidhi Aapke Nikat,
the EPFO stakeholders used to come to the EPFO field offices for grievance
redressal, whereas under the Nidhi Aapke Nikat 2.0, EPFO will reach out to the
stakeholders, for increasing accessibility and visibility of the organisation.
3.
INTERPOL
YGPLP BEGINS IN NEW DELHI
·
The 3rd edition of the
Interpol Young Global Police Leaders Programme (YGPLP) began in New Delhi,
Delhi.
·
The
theme of the 3rd Interpol YGPLP is “Trust”, which aims to build trust
between public-police and also to build trust factors between international
police forces in the era of technology.
·
Around 60 participants
from 44 countries took part in the event, which is being organised by the
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
·
The YGPLP is a unique
INTERPOL initiative, established in 2019, that guides selected officers on the
path to international leadership.

15TH
BRICS SUMMIT AT DURBAN IN AUGUST 2023
·
Sergei Lavrov, the
foreign minister of Russia, and Osman Saleh, the foreign minister of the State
of Eritrea, jointly announced South Africa’s Durban as a host of the 15th BRICS
(Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Summit. The summit will be
held in August 2023.
·
Previously, South Africa
hosted the 5th BRICS Summit from 26 to 27 March 2013.

ADITYA-L1:
INDIA’S 1ST MISSION TO STUDY THE SUN
·
The Indian Space Research
Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the Aditya-L1 mission, 1st Indian space
mission to observe the Sun and the solar corona, to the L1 orbit (which is the first Lagrangian point of the Sun-Earth
system) by June or July 2023 since
the launch window for the mission would close by August 2023.

L1 orbit allows Aditya-L1
to look at the Sun continuously.
·
The Aditya-1 Mission,
originally known as Aditya-L1, was initially meant to put into an 800-kilometre
(km) low-Earth orbit (LEO) as a 400-kg class satellite but it was later decided
that the satellite would be launched into a halo orbit around the Sun-Earth
system’s first Lagrangian Point (L1).
·
On 26th January 2023, the
ISRO received the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC), the largest payload
to be carried on board the Aditya-L1, from the IIA team for integration with
other payloads on board the satellite.

DATA
PRIVACY DAY – 28TH JANUARY
·
It is an international
initiative to raise awareness about the significance of protecting Data Privacy
Day 2023, promoting trust, and respecting privacy.
·
Data Protection Day is
now celebrated globally and is called “Privacy Day” outside Europe.
·
Data Security Council of
India (DSCI), a not-for-profit, industry body on data protection in India, set
up by the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), is
running an awareness campaign on the theme of ‘Think Privacy First’.

AISHE
2020-21: ENROLMENT IN HIGHER EDUCATION SURVEY
·
AISHE 2020-21 was the
11th annual Survey and 1st Survey being conducted using an entirely online data
collection platform through the Web Data Capture Format (Web DCF), which was
Developed by the Department of Higher Education and the National Informatics Centre
(NIC).
·
A total of 1,113
Universities, 43,796 Colleges and 11,296 Stand Alone Institutions were
registered in AISHE 2020-21.
·
Total students’ enrolment
in higher education in 2020-21 increased to around 4.13 crore (crossing the 4
crore mark for the 1st time) from 3.85 crore in 2019-20.
·
The number of
Universities in 2020-21 increased by 70 to 1,113 from 1,043 in
2019-20.
·
Since 2014-15, there has
been an increase of 353 Universities (46.4%).
·
The number of Colleges
has increased by 1453, to 43,796 in 2020-21 from 42,343 in 2019-20.
·
The total number of
teachers are 15,51,070 of which about 57.1% are male and 42.9% are female.

IIRF
MBA RANKING 2023
·
According to the latest
Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) ranking (2023), the Indian
Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), is the top
government college in India for pursuing the Master of Business
Administration (MBA) course.
·
IIM Bengaluru (Karnataka)
and IIM Kolkata (West Bengal) are ranked second and third, respectively
·
The Xavier Labour
Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), came in first
rank among private colleges, followed by the Management Development
Institute (MDI), Gurugram (Haryana), and Symbiosis Institute of Business
Management, Pune (Maharashtra).

NSE
RANKED WORLD’S LARGEST DERIVATIVES EXCHANGE IN 2022
·
According to the Futures
Industry Association (FIA), a derivatives trade body, the National Stock
Exchange of India Ltd (NSE India) has once again emerged as the world’s largest
derivatives exchange in terms of the number of contracts traded in 2022.
·
The NSE India has
retained its top spot for a record-breaking 4th year in a row.
·
Furthermore, according to
World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) statistics, the NSE was named the 3rd
largest exchange in the world in the equity segment by the number of trades
(electronic order book) in 2022, up from 4th in 2021.
·
The benchmark equity
index, the Nifty 50 (NIFTY), reached an all-time high of 18,887.60 in the
calendar year (CY) 2022.
·
NSE India intends to
launch the Social Stock Exchange as a segment in the near future, subject to
regulatory approvals.

Petr Pavel
the former chairman of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) military
committee, won the runoff vote defeating former Prime Minister (PM) Andrej
Babis, to become the 4th President of Czech Republic.
·
With the ballots from 97%
of almost 15,000 polling stations, Petr Pavel won 58.3% of the votes by
defeating the former Prime Minister (PM) of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babis
scored 41.7%.

ODISHA HOCKEY MEN’S WORLD CUP 2023
·
Germany won
the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 by defeating Belgium by 5-4
in the Penalty shootout during the finals held in Kalinga Stadium in
Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
·
This marks Germany’s 3rd
hockey World Cup title, earlier they won the world cup in 2002 and 2006.

VIJAY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM CRICKET
·
Veteran Indian Cricketer
Murali Vijay, hailing from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has announced his retirement
from international cricket at the age of 38.
·
He was a member of the
Indian Test Team till 2018 and plays for Tamil Nadu in Domestic first class
cricket.
·
He has played 61 Tests,
17 One Day International (ODIs) and nine Twenty20 International (T20Is) since
2008.
·
He has scored 12 Test
centuries and 15 half-centuries from 61 Tests. He has also scored 3982 runs at
an average of 38.28.

British economist Meghnad Desai has authored a new book titled “The
Poverty Of Political Economy: How Economics Abandoned the Poor”
·
Book highlights how the
