1.              NAVRATNA STATUS TO NATIONAL FERTILIZERS LIMITED

·                Department of Public Enterprise(DPE) under the Ministry of Finance has granted the Navratna status to National Fertilizers Limited(NFL).

·                It was upgraded from Miniratna-I to Navratna status

·                NFL Headquarters- Noida, Uttar Pradesh

 

2.              CAG OF INDIA & BULGARIAN NATIONAL AUDIT OFFICE SIGNED MOU

·                The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bulgarian National Audit Office (BNAO) in Sofia, Bulgaria to foster international cooperation.

·                The MoU Aim is to enhance collaboration and exchange of expertise in the field of auditing between India and Bulgaria.

3.              26TH CHIEF OF NAVAL STAFF

·                Government of India (GoI) has announced the appointment of Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar (DK) Tripathi as the 26th Chief of the Naval Staff(CNS) of the Indian Navy.

·                He is currently serving as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff.

 

4.              NALIN PRABHAT APPOINTMENTED AS DG OF NSG

·                The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Nalin Prabhat as the Director-General (D-G) of National Security Guard (NSG) till the date of his  superannuation (31st August 2028).

·                Sapna Tiwari is appointed as Special Director in IB

·                NSG is a counter-terrorism agency of India and also, known as Black Cats.

·                It is under the administrative control of Ministry of Home Affairs. It is formed under National Security Guard(NSG) Act, 1986.

5.              INDIA DELIVERS  BRAHMOS SUPERSONIC MISSILES TO PHILIPPINES

·                India delivered the first batch of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines.

·                This delivery marks a significant milestone in defense cooperation between the two nations, following a USD 375 million deal signed in January 2022.

·                BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles is produced by BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd which is a joint venture (JV) between the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Russian Federation’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya.

·                Its speed is 2.8 Mach, with a flight range of 290 kilometers.

·                The missile’s range has been extended to 450km and efforts are underway to further extend it to 600 Km.

 

6.              NAVY EXERCISE “POORVI LEHAR”

·                Indian Navy conducted Exercise Poorvi Lehar(XPOL) 2024 on East Coast. 

·                Exercise was conducted in multiple phases which include:Tactical Phase: Combat training in realistic situations and Weapon Phase: Successful conduct of different firings.

 

7.              INDIA 4TH IN GLOBAL MILITARY EXPENDITURE: SIPRI REPORT

·                Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) released its report titled Trends in World Military Expenditure, 2023’.

·                According to the report, the total global military expenditure increased for the 9th consecutive year to an all-time high of USD 2443 billion in 2023, an increase of 6.8% in real terms from 2022.

·                The top 5 military spenders in 2023 are the United States of America(USA)(1st), China(2nd), Russia(3rd), India (4th) and Saudi Arabia(5th), which together accounted for 61% of world military spending.

·                With a military expenditure of USD 83.6 billion in 2023, India was the 4th largest spender globally.

·                India’s military spending has increased by 4.2% from 2022 and 44% from 2014.

·                In 2023, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) members, including the USA, collectively spent USD 1341 billion. This accounts for around 55% of global military spending.

8.              S&P GLOBAL: 3 INDIAN BANKS AMONG TOP 50 LENDERS IN ASIA-PACIFIC BY ASSETS

·                Three Indian Banks namely, the State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank are featured in the list of top 50 largest banks in Asia-Pacific Region by Assets – 2024 released by The S&P Global Market Intelligence.

·                China’s Industrial and Commercial Bank of China limited retained its position as the largest bank in Asia pacific as well as in world in 2023.

·                SBI, India’s largest Public Sector Bank(PSB), has improved its ranking to 20th in 2023 from 21 in 2022.

·                SBI’s assets valuation stands at USD 780.05 billion in 2023.

·                HDFC Bank’s valuation increased to USD 464.34 billion in 2023, over 51% higher than its value in 2022.

·                HDFC bank has jumped from 46th rank in 2022 to 33rd rank in 2023.

 

9.              VISHWAKARMA AWARDS  FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

·                Puravankara Limited, a renowned real estate developer in India, has been honoured with the Achievement Award for Creating Social Development and Impact at the 15th edition of CIDC Vishwakarma Awards (VKA) (2024), organised by the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC).

·                The Award recognises Puravankara’s efforts in driving positive change through its impactful campaigns, notably the “Million Wells for Bengaluru” in collaboration with Biome Environmental Trust

·                “Million Wells for Bengaluru” Campaign:aims to combat water depletion by rejuvenating heritage wells, promoting rainwater harvesting, and supporting the Manu Vaddar community.

·                The CIDC VKA recognises organisations and individuals contributing to national growth and sustainable development, particularly in the field of  Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

 

10.           CANDIDATES CHESS TOURNAMENT

·                The 17-year-old chess Grandmaster (GM) Dommaraju Gukesh from Chennai (Tamil Nadu) has won (Open category) the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Candidates 2024 held in Toronto, Canada, by defeating Hikaru Nakamura of the United States to score 9 points.

·                Gukesh has thus become the youngest challenger in history to qualify for the World Chess Championship, breaking the record created in 1984 by the GM Garry Kasparov (Russia), when he was 22.

·                Tan Zhongyi (China) has won the candidates 2024 (Women’s category)

 

11.           CHINESE GRAND PRIX 2024 

·                Belgian-Dutch driver Max Verstappen of Red Bull won the Formula 1 (F1) Chinese Grand Prix (GP) 2024 held at the Shanghai International Circuit in Shanghai, China

·                McLaren’s Lando Norris(the United Kingdom(UK)) and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez (Mexico) finished in the second and third positions, respectively.

 

12.           NATIONAL CIVIL SERVICES DAY 2024 – APRIL 21

·                National Civil Services Day is annually observed across India on 21 April to recognise and acknowledge the crucial role that civil servants play in the nation’s development.

·                In 1947, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel announced that National Civil Service Day would be observed every year to honour the contributions of the civil servants for the country.

 

13.           INTERNATIONAL MOTHER EARTH DAY 2024 – APRIL 22

·                The United Nations (UN) International Mother Earth Day (or Earth Day) is annually observed across the globe on 22nd April to recognise the relationship between humans and nature in the ecosystems.

·                The theme of Earth Day 2024 is Planet vs. Plastics.
