46TH ANTARCTIC TREATY CONSULTATIVE
·
India has
successfully hosted the 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM-46) and
the 26th Committee on Environmental Protection (CEP-26) in
Kochi, Kerala.
·
ATCM-46 was held under the theme “Vasudhaiva
Kutumbakam” (A Sanskrit phrase which means ‘one Earth, one family, one
future’).
·
ATCM-46 and CEP-26 were hosted by the
Ministry of Earth Sciences(MoES), Government of India, through the National
Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa, with support from the
Antarctic Treaty Secretariat.
·
Antarctic Treaty is a multilateral
agreement of 56 Contracting Parties signed in 1959.
·

consultative parties and 28 non-consultative parties.

RBI ANNUAL REPORT 2023-24
·
The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Annual
Report 2023-24 has been released and presented to the Central Government under
the Section 53 (2) of the Reserve Bank of India Act,1934.
· Expenditure declined by 56.3% to Rs.64,694.33 crore from ₹1,48,037.04 crore in FY2023.
·
RBI’s Annual report showed a rise in
the net income of 2.11 lakh crore (17 percent) in the
financial year 2024 as compared to ₹87,420 crore in FY23.
·
RBI allowed persons resident outside
India (PROIs) to open rupee accounts as part of its 2024-25
agenda for globalising the domestic currency. This will allow Indian banks to
lend in rupees to the PROIs.
3.
RBI MOVES 100 TONNES OF
GOLD FROM UK TO ITS VAULTS IN INDIA
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
has moved 100 Metric Tonnes (MT) or 1 Lakh kg of gold
stored in the United Kingdom (UK) to domestic vaults in
FY24, which marks a significant shift in gold storage.
·
It marks the first time since
1991 that India has moved such a heavy scale of gold.
·
India’s overall gold holdings
increased 27.46 MT in FY24 and it stands at 822.1 MT of
which 413.8 tonnes stored overseas as of March 2024.
·
More than half of the RBI’s gold
holdings are kept in safe custody with the Bank of
International Settlements (BIS) and the Bank of England (BoE).
·
This move helps the RBI in saving on
the storage costs, which are paid to foreign custodians, such as the BoE.
·
RBI started
buying gold from 2018 and before that it had bought 200 tonnes from the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) during the global financial crisis in 2009.
·
According to the World Gold
Council (WGC), RBI bought 19 tonnes of gold in the first quarter of 2024,
surpassing the 16 tonnes purchased in 2023.
4.
RBI IMPOSES MONETARY PENALTY ON SBM
BANK (INDIA)
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 88.70 lakh on SBM
Bank (India), a subsidiary of the State Bank of Mauritius (SBM) for
non-compliance with certain regulatory norms.
·
The penalty has been imposed for
non-compliance with licensing conditions imposed by the RBI, and specific
directions to stop undertaking Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS)
transactions with immediate effect and not meant to determine the
legitimacy of any transactions or agreements entered into by the SBM bank
(India) with its customers.

CHINA LAUNCHED
PAKISTAN’S COMMUNICATION SATELLITE – PAKSAT-MM1
·
China successfully
launched Pakistan’s multi-mission communication satellite,
named PakSAT-MM1, from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in
China’s southwestern province of Sichuan using a Long March-3B (LM-3B)
carrier rocket.
·
This launch is a collaborative effort
between Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO),
Pakistan’s Space agency, and the Chinese aerospace industry.
·
The satellite was successfully placed in Geostationary
orbit from 36,000 Kilometres (Kms) above Earth.
·
This will provide communication
services in C, Ku, Ka Bands and Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS)
services in L Band.
6.
SEBI PROPOSES INCREASING BASIC
SERVICE DEMAT ACCOUNT THRESHOLD TO RS 10 LAKH
·
The Capital markets regulator Securities
and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) proposed to enhance the threshold
for the basic service demat account (BSDA) to Rs 10 lakhs from the current
Rs 2 lakhs in a bid to boost the participation of retail investors in
the securities market.
·
What is a Basic Service Demat Account
(BSDA) - A basic service demat account, or BSDA, is a more
basic version of a regular demat account.
·
The facility was introduced by SEBI
in 2012 to reduce the burden of demat charges on investors
with small portfolios.
·
At present,
an individual can hold debt securities worth up to Rs 2 lakh and other
than debt securities worth up to Rs 2 lakh in a single demat account to be
eligible for BSDA.
·
For portfolio values up to Rs 4, SEBI
has proposed that annual maintenance charge for a BDSA should be nil and for
portfolio values of between over Rs 4 lakh and up to Rs 10 lakh, the
charges should be Rs 100.
·
Accounts that hold up to ₹1 lakh
in debt securities and ₹50,000 in other-than-debt securities are not
charged anything currently.
7.
SEBI
MANDATES DIRECT PAYMENT OF SECURITIES TO INVESTOR ACCOUNTS TO PREVENT
ISSUES
·
To enhance operational efficiency
and reduce the risk to clients' securities, markets regulator Securities
and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) decided to make the process
of direct payout of such securities to the client's account mandatory.
·
This new process will become effective
from October 14, 2024
·
Current Process: Currently,
the clearing corporation credits the payout of securities into the pool
account of the broker, who then credits them to the respective clients'
demat accounts.

SOUTH
KOREA LAUNCHES NATIONAL SPACE AGENCY
·
South Korea has
officially launched its space agency, the Korea Aerospace
Administration (KASA), to lead policy and industrial development in the
aerospace sector.
·
KASA is based in Sacheon, South
Gyeongsang Province, with an annual budget of 758.9 billion
won ($556 million).

renowned as the head of Mumbai Police’s elite counter-terrorism unit, Force

ELIMINATION OF TUBERCULOSIS IN THE
COUNTRY BY 2025
·
The Ministry of Mines and Central
TB Division of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has signed an
MoU in New Delhi to collaborate on eliminating Tuberculosis (TB).
·
The MoU aims to foster inter-ministerial
collaboration and strategic partnerships to achieve the goal of eliminating TB
in India by 2025.

·
Every year on June 7th, World Food
Safety Day is commemorated.

BOXING FEDERATION OF INDIA QUITS IBA
AND JOINS WORLD BOXING
·
The Boxing Federation of India
(BFI) has parted ways with the suspended International Boxing
Association (IBA) and became a member of World Boxing with the
aim to reduce the threat to boxing’s Olympic future.
·
The decision was taken after the International
Olympic Committee (IOC) warned the national federation to leave boxing out
of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics if they continued to be a part of the
International Boxing Association (IBA).
·
The IOC had de-recognised the IBA in 2019 due
to continuous financial, sports integrity, and governance issues.

(IBA) is a non-profit international organization that
succeeded the former Federation Internationale de Boxe Amateur in 1946 and
is the only worldwide governing body for all forms of boxing.

IAF PARTICIPATES IN ‘RED FLAG 24-2’
EXERCISE IN ALASKA, USA

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has
landed its most advanced fighter aircraft, Rafale, at the Eielson Air
Force Base, Alaska, United States of America (USA),
to participate in the multinational Red Flag 24-2 exercise.

The Red Flag exercise is a
multinational exercise designed to replicate a realistic
and challenging environment.

NOTA GETS
OVER 1.7 LAKH VOTES IN INDORE LS SEAT
·
Following the Congress' appeal to electors
in Madhya Pradesh's Indore to select the 'None of the
Above' option, it has so far got more than 1.7 lakh votes in
the Lok Sabha seat, breaking the previous NOTA record of Gopalganj in
Bihar.
·
NOTA gives an option to voters to reject
all candidates in a constituency.
·
In the 2019 elections, the Gopalganj
Lok Sabha seat in Bihar recorded the maximum NOTA votes at 51,660, about 5
per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency.

HYDERABAD
NO LONGER SERVES AS JOINT CAPITAL FOR TELANGANA AND ANDHRA PRADESH
·
Hyderabad ceased
to be the common capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on June 2,
2024, as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
·
Starting from June 2, 2024, Hyderabad
is the capital city of Telangana only.
·
Hyderabad was made the capital city of
both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for a period of 10 years following the
bifurcation of undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
·
As of now, Andhra Pradesh has not yet
established a permanent capital. There are ongoing disputes over Amaravati and
Visakhapatnam, which are pending in courts.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
·
The All India Tennis Association
(AITA) has announced the Dilip Bose award for lifetime
achievement to coach Nar Singh.
·
The award along with a cash prize
of 50,000 will be presented during the 11th National
coaches workshop to be held at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana in Pune
·
The secretary general of AITA, Anil
Dhupar, announced a new lifetime achievement award for women coaches.
·
The first award would be presented to the
69-year-old Rohini Lokhande who was a member of the national team
along with Kiran Bedi, Nirupama Mankad, Susan Das and Udaya Kumar, before
she took to coaching at a young age.

OPEN: JANNIK SINNER BECOMES FIRST ITALIAN WORLD NO. 1

Jannik Sinner became
the first ever Italian player to be crowned the ATP
World No. 1 in men's singles competition.
·
Sinner achieved the feat after he
beat Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-final of the competition.
·
Sinner was aided by the withdrawal of
defending champion Novak Djokovic from the French Open,
ahead of his quarter-final match against Casper Ruus.
·
Djokovic was forced to withdraw from the competition
due to a knee injury sustained in his marathon fourth-round win over
Francisco Cerundolo, organisers stated.

OECD REPORT ON CLIMATE FINANCE
·
According to the Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) report, Climate Finance Provided
and Mobilised by Developed Countries in 2013-2022, developed countries
provided and mobilised USD 115.9 billion as climate
finance for developing countries in 2022.
·
This exceeds the annual USD 100 billion
goals for the 1st time, surpassing the target by over 15%.
·

INDIA RECEIVED MAXIMUM FDI FROM
SINGAPORE
·
According to the latest data released by Department
for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce
and Industry, Government of India (GoI), India received the
highest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Singapore in
FY24 (2023-24)
·
FDI equity inflows into
the country decreased by about 3.5% in FY24, from USD
46.03 billion (FY23)to USD 44.42 billion(FY24) due to
global economic uncertainties.
·
Mauritius emerged
as the 2nd biggest investor in India, with investment
of USD 7.97 billion in FY24, followed by United States of
America (U.S.A.)(USD 4.99 billion), Netherlands (USD
4.93 billion
·
The total FDI saw
a negligible decrease of 1%, from USD 71.35 billion (in
FY23) to USD 70.95 during FY24.

the Founder and Chairman of the Adani Group is now ranked
the 11th richest globally, with a net worth of USD

title of Asia’s richest person after a surge in the stock
prices of his conglomerate’s companies.
·
This surge enabled him to overtake Mukesh Ambani,
Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL),
who ranked 12th with a net worth of USD 109 billion.
·
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index is a
daily ranking of the world’s richest people.
·
According to the index, Bernard Arnault of

DINESH KARTHIK OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES
RETIREMENT

India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh
Karthik officially announced his retirement from all forms of
cricket after playing for India for 20 years.

In his 401 T20 appearances, Karthik
retires with 7407 runs, including 34 half-centuries, at a
strike-rate of nearly 137.
·
The Tamil Nadu cricketer
has represented India in 180 games across three formats in
which he scored 3463 runs with a lone Test hundred and 17

Bicycle Day is annually observed across the globe on 3 June to
raise awareness of the Bicycle
·
This Day promotes bicycles as an
affordable, reliable, and sustainable means of transportation to combat climate
change towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UN General Assembly (UNGA)
resolution was adopted by a consensus of 193 member states, sponsored by Turkmenistan and
