1.       ‘ARNALA, INDIA’S 1ST ASW SWC

·         Kolkata based PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) has delivered indigenously developed ‘Arnala’, the 1st of the eight Anti-Submarine Warfare – Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) to the Indian Navy (IN) at M/s L&T Shipyard in Kattupalli, Tamil Nadu (TN).

·         The 77.6 metre (m) long and 10.5 m broad warship, is the largest Indian Naval warship propelled by a Diesel Engine-Waterjet combination

 

2.       PMSBY, PMJJBY AND APY COMPLETES 10 YEARS

·         The three schemes-  PradhanMantri Jeevan JyotiBimaYojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha BimaYojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) were launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 9th May 2015.

·         All three schemes were envisioned to provide affordable financial protection to all, particularly the underserved and vulnerable sections of society.

·         PMJJBY The scheme is designed to provide Life Insurance cover for death due to any reason.

·         The scheme is managed by Life Insurance Company (LIC)

·         Individuals aged 18–50 with accounts in participating banks or post offices can join the scheme by consenting to auto-debit.

 

3.       LADAKH RECORDS WORLD’S HIGHEST SNOW LEOPARD DENSITY

·         UT of Ladakh hosts the highest recorded density of snow leopards (Pantherauncia) in the world, according to a study by Department of Wildlife Protection (DWP), Ladakh in collaboration with Dehradun-based Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and New Delhi-based National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

·         The study estimated that Ladakh is home to477 snow leopards, accounting for nearly 68% of India’s total population of the elusive big cat.

·         The study estimated the total snow leopard population in India at 709 individuals.

·         Hemis National Park in Ladakh recorded the world’s highest snow leopard density with 2.07 individuals per 100 square kilometres (sq km), surpassing previous global records from Tibet.

 

4.       INDIA’S FIRST BEGGAR-FREE CITY

·         Indore has become the first Indian city to be beggar-free, which is result of an ‘anti-begging campaign’ initiated in February 2024 to eliminate begging.

·         The campaign launched by the city administration has been recognized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE) and a World Bank(WB) team as a model project.

·         Indore is one of the 10 cities where the MSJE has started a pilot project to eliminate begging.

 

5.       FIRST USA UNIVERSITY TO SET UP CAMPUS IN INDIA

·         Chicago (USA)-based Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) has become the first American university to receive approval from India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) to set up an independent, degree-granting campus in Mumbai 

·         The campus is scheduled to open in 2026, marking a significant milestone in India-USA educational collaboration.

 

6.       SBI JOINS GLOBAL TOP 100 IN NET PROFIT

·         Mumbai based State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest Public Sector Bank (PSB), has reached a new milestone by becoming one of the world’s most profitable companies. 

·         With a net profit of USD 9.2 billion (Rs. 77,561 crore) in Financial Year 2024-25(FY25), SBI now ranks 98th globally in terms of annual earnings, according to data from Bloomberg.

·         SBI becomes the third Indian company to enter the top 100 most profitable companies in the world after Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) in 2009, and  Reliance Industries Limited(RIL) in 2021.

·         Alphabet, the parent company of Google, tops the list with a profit of USD 111 billion, showing the strong earnings power of tech companies.

·         Saudi Aramco comes next with USD105 billion, proving that the energy sector continues to be very profitable.

·         The list is led by United States of America (USA) companies with 43 entries, followed by China with 19 companies and Germany comes third with five companies in the list.

 

7.       INDIA TO LAUNCH MISSION ‘SAMUDRAYAAN’ BY END OF 2026

·         The mission will use the manned submersible vehicle ‘Matsya’ to reach a depth of 6,000 metres (6 km) under the sea with 3 scientists.

·         ‘Samudrayaan’ is a part of India’s Deep Ocean Mission (DOM) aimed at exploring deep-sea resources and conducting scientific research.

·         Matsya”, a 25-tonne 4th generation vehicle, developed with India’s indigenous technology, is specifically engineered to withstand pressure and temperature in the deeper ocean, with a hull made of titanium.

 

8.       ADB’S 58TH AM OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS

·         The 58th Annual Meeting (AM) of the Board of Governors of Asian Development Bank (ADB) was held in Milan, Italy.

·         Theme of 58th AM of ADB: ‘Sharing Experience, Building Tomorrow’.

·         Nirmala Sitharaman, Ministry of Finance led the Indian delegation

·         President– Masato Kanda (Japan)

·         Headquarters– Manila, the Philippines

·         Members Nations- 69, Established– 1966

 

9.       WORLD BANK LAND CONFERENCE 2025 

·         The World Bank Land Conference 2025(WBLC 2025), the premier international forum for the land sector, was held in Washington USA.

·         Theme of  WBLC 2025: “Securing Land Tenure and Access for Climate Action: Moving from Awareness”.

·         During the conference, India was honored as a Country Champion 

 

10.    PAKISTAN LAUNCHED ‘OPERATION BUNYAN AL-MARSUS’ AGAINST INDIA

·         Pakistan launched ‘Operation Bunyan al-Marsu’ against India aimed at targeting military installations in India

·         The operation was initiated in response to India’s Operation Sindoor, conducted on May 7, 2025.

·         The operation was conducted under General AsimMunir , the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan.

·         Under Pakistan’s operation, Fatah-II hypersonic ballistic missile was fired to target Delhi, India’s capital city but was taken down effectively by Indian Air Defence Systems Forces in Sirsa, Haryana.

·         On May 10, 2025, India and Pakistan have mutually agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire, effectively halting the most intense military escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors in decades.

·         The ceasefire was brokered through intensive diplomatic efforts, with the United States of America(USA) President Donald Trump playing a central role in facilitating negotiations.

 

11.    WORLD’S FIRST NATIONAL CRYPTOCURRENCY TOURISM PAYMENT SYSTEM

·         Bhutan has introduced the world’s first national cryptocurrency tourism payment system through a collaboration with Binance Pay, a subsidiary of Binance Holdings Limited, and DK Bank of Bhutan, Bhutan’s first fully digital bank

·         This initiative enables travelers to use cryptocurrencies for service payments, promoting ease of transactions and advancing financial inclusion throughout their visit to Bhutan.

12.    4TH RIMES MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE IN COLOMBO

·         The Government of Sri Lanka hosted the 4th Ministerial Conference of the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) with the support of USAbased World Bank (WB) through CARE Component-1 and London based Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO),  in Colombo.

·         India participated at the 4th Ministerial Conference of RIMES as a co-chair along with Sri Lanka.

·         Theme of 4th Ministerial Conference of RIMES: ‘Actionable Early Warnings and Climate Services for All’.
