1. FORMAL JOBS IN INDIA INCREASES BY 28.6%
·        According to the payroll data of EPFO (Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation), an organization tasked to assist the Central Board of Trustees, Employees’ Provident Fund, the formal employment in India saw an 28.6 % increase at 78.58 lakh in 2019-20 as compared to only 61.12 lakh added in 2018-19.
·        The main reason for this is the low withdrawal by EPFO ​​subscribers due to the government’s policy reforms such as implementing GST, allowing fixed income contracts as well as better returns on PF (Provident Fund) deposits.

2. INDIA ELECTED AS NON-PERMANENT MEMBER OF UNSC
·        India was elected unopposed for an 8th term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for two years (i.e.2021 & 2022) starting January 2021 by gaining 184 votes in the 193-member General Assembly.
·         Along with India, Mexico, Ireland, Kenya and Norway were also elected.
·        India was the only candidate for the lone seat from the Asia-Pacific category.
·        India will serve as the president of the powerful 15-nation UN body for the month of August, 2021 & once again it will serve as the president for 1 month in the year 2022.
·        The Presidency of the council will be held by each of the members in turn for one month. For June 2020 it is held by France.

3. ICICI HOME FINANCE LAUNCHES SARAL
·        ICICI Home Finance Company Limited(HFC) launched SARAL, a special affordable housing loan scheme to finance homes in urban and rural areas.
·        The beneficiaries are women, lower, middle income customers and economically weaker sections, with a maximum household income up to Rs 6 lakh per annum.
·        ICICI HFC offers interest subsidy of up to Rs 2.67 lakh per house for SARAL loan applicants up to the end of this financial year, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)

·        ICICI HFC is a Housing Finance Company regulated by the Reserve Bank of India(RBI) and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of ICICI Bank Ltd.

4. BANK OF BARODA TO FULLY DIGITIZE LENDING OPERATIONS
·        India’s 3rd largest lender, Bank of Baroda is set to fully digitise its lending operations including home, agriculture, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(MSME), personal and auto loans.
·        Verification and issuance of new loans will take place through this digital platform & past loans will also be digitized to reduce costs and improve profitability.
·        The bank has recently completed its merger with Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank.

5. PRESIDENT OF 75TH UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
·        Volkan Bozkir(69) from Turkey was elected as the president of the 75th United Nations(UN) General Assembly.
·        He is the 1st turkish to hold this post.
·        He will hold the post for 1 year.
·        Volkan Bozkir will succeed Tijjani Muhammad-Bande when the annual session opens on September 15, 2020.
·        He won unopposed with the support of 178 UN member states by secret ballot.

6. “FIFTH STATE OF MATTER” IN SPACE
·        A team of scientists at US (United States) based Space agency NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)’s Cold Atom Lab (CAL), have found for the first time in space the evidence of ‘Fifth State of Matter’ (also known as Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC).
·        They believe that through this will help in solving some of the quantum puzzles of quantum universe the kernels of the universe can be solved and its origin can also be traced.
·        It is to be noted that, the existence of BEC was first predicted by great scientist Albert Einstein and Indian mathematician Satyendra Nath Bose, almost 100 years ago in early 1920.
·         This experiment has been done at the International Space Station (ISS).
·        There are four states of matter namely Solid, Fluid, Gas and Plasma. Plasma is the gaseous state, but it is ionized.

7. SUSTAINABLE GASTRONOMY DAY 2020 – JUNE 18
·        June 18th of every year is observed as the sustainable gastronomy day to celebrate seasonal ingredients and producers, preserve wildlife and culinary traditions.

1. SANITATION FACILITY AT PASHUPATINATH TEMPLE
·        India has extended its financial aid by NR (Nepalese rupee) 37.23 million(i.e. Equivalent of Rs.2.33 cr INR) for the construction of the sanitation facility for the pilgrims at the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal, under the Nepal-Bharat Maitri: Development Partnership as a high impact community development scheme by India.
·        Pashupatinath Temple is the largest temple complex in Nepal and stretches on both sides of the Bagmati River and sees thousands of worshippers from Nepal and India every day.

2. KHELO INDIA STATE CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE
·        The Sports Ministry prepared to establish Khelo India State Centres of Excellence(KISCE) under the Khelo India Scheme and identified 8 state owned sports facilities to upgrade as KISCE.
·        The Centres are established to enhance the performance of India in Olympic games.

1.    200 “URBAN FORESTS” IN 5 YEARS: CENTRAL GOVT.
·        “Nagar Van” (Urban forest) Scheme launched virtually by the Central Govt. on June 5, the occasion of the World Environment Day 2020 (WED) announcing the implementation to develop urban forests across the country over the span of 5 years.
·        Stressing on the substance theme of “Biodiversity” by the United Nation’s Environment Programme (UNEP), The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change celebrated the day by announcing the initiative of urban forests in India. 
·        Urban forest are seemingly the best way to bridge the gap of climate change.

2.    INDIA, AUSTRALIA BILATERAL VIRTUAL SUMMIT
·        The first India-Australia virtual leader’s summit was held between Indian PM Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison. 
·        The focus of the meet was to further strengthen the bilateral ties in areas like healthcare, trade and defence.
·        The External Affairs Minister of India Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne signed the 4-year $12.7 million Australia-India Cyber and Critical Technology Partnership. 
·        Notably, Australia expressed its strong support for India’s membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

1.    STUDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME, “TULIP”
·        Ramesh Pokhriyal `Nishank’, Minister, Human Resource Development, Shri Hardeep S. Puri, MoS (I/C), Housing & Urban Affairs, and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have jointly launched a 1st of its kind online portal for `The Urban Learning Internship Program (TULIP)’ – A program for providing internship opportunities to fresh graduates in all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Smart Cities across the country.
·        This launch is also an important stepping stone for fulfillment of MHRD and AICTE’s goal of 1 crore successful internships by the year 2025.
·        College students having a level of B. Tech, B planning, B. Arch, BA, BSc, BCom, LLB can register for internships as per their interest.

2.    CABINET APPROVES RENAMING OF KOLKATA PORT TRUST
·        The Union Cabinet has given its nod to rename Kolkata Port Trust as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Trust on the lines of the announcement made by PM Narendra Modi on January 12, 2020 while marking the 150th-anniversary celebrations of the port trust.
·        Syama Prasad Mukherjee was a Minister for Industry and Supply in the 1947 interim Central Government and a Founder-President of Bharatiya Jan Sangh, the predecessor to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
·        In 2017, Kandla Port of Gujarat was re-named as Deendayal Port.

1. ‘PM SVANIDHI’ FOR PROVIDING AFFORDABLE LOANS TO STREET VENDORS LAUNCHED
·        Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has launched a scheme PM SVANidhi– PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbharNidhi under which the street vendors, who had their businesses operational on or before 24 March, 2020 can avail a working capital loan of up to Rs. 10,000 which is repayable in monthly instalments in the tenure of one year.
·        The loaning will commence from July 2020.
·        The scheme will cover vendors, hawkers, thelewalas, rehriwala, theliphadwala etc. in different areas/ contexts to help them in resuming their businesses being affected by COVID-19 crisis.
·        Importantly, this is for the first time that street vendors from peri- urban/ rural areas become beneficiaries of an urban livelihood programme.

2. KISAN CREDIT CARDS CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED
·        Government under a special drive will provide Kisan Credit Cards(KCC) to 1.5 crore dairy farmers belonging to milk unions and milk producing companies within the next two months (1st June-31st July 2020).
·        The general limit for KCC credit without collateral is Rs. 1.6 lakhs, if the milk is directly procured by Milk Unions from the farmers it falls under tie up arrangements between the producers and processing units without any intermediaries & so the credit limits without Collateral can be upto Rs.3 lakh.

1. “MY LIFE MY YOGA” VIDEO BLOGGING CONTEST LAUNCHED
·        PM Narendra Modi during his Mann Ki Baat address to the nation announced the “My Life – My Yoga”(Jeevan Yoga) Video Blogging Contest, as one of the activities related to the observation of the 6th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21st, 2020.
·        The contest being organized by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is open for participants from all countries.
·        To enter into the contest the participants are required to upload a 3 minutes duration video of 3 Yogic practices (kriya, asana, pranayama, bandha or mudra), including a short video message on how the Yogic practices influenced their life. 

2. “RESPONSIBLE AI FOR YOUTH”
·        Ravi Shankar Prasad launched India’s National Artificial Intelligence(AI) Portal called www.ai.gov.in & launched a National Program for the youth, “Responsible AI for Youth” during the occasion of the first anniversary of the second tenure of the government.
·        The portal was developed jointly by the National e-Governance Division of Ministry of Electronics and IT and NASSCOM from the IT industry.
·        It is created & launched by the National e-Governance Division, Ministry of Electronics & IT in collaboration with Intel India, with support from Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Human Resource Development.
