CAPGEMINI APPOINTED ANIL JALALI OF IBM AS HR HEAD FOR INDIA OPERATION
i.
French Consulting Corporation Capgemini has nominated Anil Jalali as Chief
Human Resources Officer for its India operation .
ii.
Jalali will replace BL Narayan who is joining Capgemini’s Business Services
Strategic Business unit as head of solutions and sales support.

16TH FINANCIAL STABILITY AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL MEETING HELD IN NEW DELHI
i.
The 16th edition of the Financial Stability and Development Council meeting was
held in New Delhi under the Chairmanship of the Union Finance Minister Arun
Jaitley.
ii.
The Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley
emphasized the significance of demonetization decision saying that the
government’s measures to eliminate the shadow economy and tax evasion are
expected to have a positive impact both on GDP and on fiscal consolidation in
the long run.
iii.
The main aim of this meeting was to discuss about the obstacles faced by the
economy and to bring out the solution to tackle them. It also aimed at bringing
new suggestions and outcomes in order to benefit the upcoming Budget 2017-18.

IBM INDIA APPOINTS KARAN BAJWA AS MD
i.
IBM has appointed Karan Bajwa as MD of IBM India Pvt Ltd succeeding Vanitha
Narayanan, who has been appointed as chairman of the Indian subsidiary.
ii.
Karan Bajwa joined IBM in 2016 as Executive for Strategy and Transformation in
the Asia Pacific region.

14TH PRAVASI BHARTIYA DIVAS CONVENTION BEGINS IN BENGALURU
i.
The 14th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas convention has begun in Bengaluru. The
three-day event will kick start with the Youth PBD.
ii.
The theme of day was 'Role of Diaspora Youth in the Transformation of India'.
iii.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has been held traditionally on 9th January every year
to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi as a Pravasi from South Africa to
India.
iv.
Three plenary sessions are scheduled to be held in Youth PBD.
• First will be on reaching out to Indian
Students abroad, NRIs and overseas Indian Community Students in India.
• Second will be on Start-ups and Innovations
• Third on Start-up ecosystem in Karnataka.
5.
CHINA LAUNCHED ITS LONGEST HIGH-SPEED TRAIN SERVICE
i.
China has launched its longest high-speed train service from capital of
south-west China's Yunnan Province, Kunming to Beijing.
ii.
The train named 'Shangri-la of the World' left Kunming on a 2,760-km trip to
Beijing. The mileage will increase to 45,000 km by 2030.
