1. INDIAN RAILWAY CONDUCTS FIRST HR ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE
i. Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Railways inaugurated Indian Railways’ 1st HR Round Table Conference in New Delhi. Chairman of Railway Board, A. K. Mital and other senior Railway officials were also present at the conference.
ii. The Conference was organized around following 3 themes: a) Stakeholders Expectations from HR
b) Creativity Within Constraints and c) The Future of Work – HR Role.
iii. HR experts and leaders of industry held round table discussion on each of the above mentioned themes.

2. INDIA, UNOSSC LAUNCH PARTNERSHIP FUND TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
i. India and the UN Office for South- South Cooperation has launched a partnership fund for supporting sustainable development projects across the world.
ii. The partnership fund was launched on the occasion of the ‘World Oceans Day’ at Permanent Mission of India to UN. Minister of State for External Affairs, M J Akbar,  India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin, Envoy of the Secretary-General on South- South Cooperation, Jorge Chediek and Director of United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation were present at the occasion.
iii. The objective of this partnership is to reduce poverty and hunger, improving education, health and equality, and expanding access to clean water, energy and livelihoods.

3. CANARA BANK AND NEW INDIA ANNOUNCES TIE UP
i. The New India Assurance Company and Canara Bank have entered into a corporate agency arrangement for distribution of insurance products.
ii. The pact allows Canara Bank to offer non-life insurance products to its customers across metros and tier II and III cities through the bank’s extensive network of over 6,000 branches.
iii. New India Assurance will offer a bouquet of products — such as motor, home, travel, health, fire, marine, and engineering insurance policies — through branches of Canara Bank.
iv. The partnership aims to provide best-in-class general insurance products to Canara Bank customers at highly competitive rates.


4. TCS LAUNCHES BANCS APP DEVELOPMENT KIT TO HELP BANKS
i. Global software major Tata Consultancy Services has launched “BaNCS App Development Kit”.
ii. It will enable banks to fast design and build their own apps and install it across devices and desktops. “BaNCS ADK” will help banks to design and deploy enterprise and consumer apps.
iii. The vision for ‘BaNCS ADK’ is to transfer flexibility and increase speed of development to the Bank.

5. MINISTRY OF CIVIL AVIATION TO ROLL OUT ‘DIGIYATRA’ FOR AIR TRAVELLERS
i. In a bid to add digital experience for Air travellers, Ministry of Civil Aviation will roll out ‘DigiYatra’ Platform.
ii. This initiative aims at bringing together entire industry to develop a digital ecosystem that will deliver customers a seamless and paperless service experience at every stage of journey.
iii. The platform will help passengers to plan their trips efficiently by identifying price trends and estimate future airfares at the time of ticket booking.
iv. Passengers will also get relevant information pertaining to various facilities, protocols, airline timings, queue lengths at airports.

6. PRESIDENT PRANAB MUKHERJEE LAUNCHES ‘SELFIE WITH DAUGHTER’ MOBILE APP
i. President Pranab Mukherjee has launched the ‘Selfie with Daughter’ mobile application.
ii. It aimed at raising awareness about female foeticide and sex selection. The campaign was started by Sunil Jaglan in June 2015 in village Bibipur in Haryana’s Jind district.
iii. The President has urged people to take photographs with their daughters and upload them to make the campaign a success. ‘Selfie with Daughter’ has become a worldwide movement against female foeticide and sex selection.
iv. The aim of the campaign is to motivate society to feel proud to be parents of a girl child. It will result in improving child sex ratio.

7. BENGALURU GIRL, SAHITHI PINGALI TO GET PLANET NAMED AFTER HER FOR RESEARCH, APP ON LAKE POLLUTION
i. A 12th grader from Bengaluru will get a minor planet in Milky Way named after her as reward for developing a crowd-sourced method to monitor pollution in water bodies.
ii. Sahithi Pingali has presented her paper “An Innovative Crowd sourcing Approach to Monitoring Freshwater Bodies” at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
iii. She was awarded the 2nd position prize and 3 special awards in the Earth and Environment Sciences category. She developed an integrated mobile phone app and lake monitoring kit to visualize changing lake conditions by crowd sourcing lake monitoring to citizens and students.
iv. She also won a gold medal at the International Sustainable World Engineering Energy Environment Project for her research work on Varthur.
v. A minor planet will be identified by the Ceres Connection program of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory.

8. MUTTIAH MURALIDARAN BECOMES 1ST SRI LANKAN TO BE INDUCTED INTO ICC HALL OF FAME
i. Muttiah Muralitharan is the most successful bowler in Tests and one-day internationals was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
ii. Muralitharan was awarded the honour along with George Lohmann, Arthur Morris and Karen Rolton by fellow ICC Cricket Hall of Famers and members of the media.
iii. He became the 1st player from Sri Lanka and the 83rd overall to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

9. “THE CRISIS WITHIN KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION IN INDIA” AUTHORED BY GANESH DEVY RELEASED
i. A book titled ‘The Crisis Within Knowledge and Education in India’ authored by Ganesh Devy was released in June 2017.
ii. Through the book, Devy says, offering reservation quotas alone will not solve the problem of social exclusion in the country’s education system, which is headed for “failure”.
iii. “The Crisis Within Knowledge and Education in India” attempts to offer a clear picture of the mistakes that have been committed in the past and offers a vision for the future.
vi. Ganesh Devy, who is an Indian linguist and anthropologist and has researched and documented 780 living Indian languages.
