1. TAMIL NADU GOVT
SIGNS MOU WITH AVIATION MINISTRY FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF UDAN SCHEME
i. Low-cost flight services are set to be in towns like
Neyveli and Hosur in Tamil Nadu in the first phase of implementation of the
Centre’s UDAN scheme to promote regional air connectivity.
ii. In the presence of CM K Palaniswami the state government
signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Civil Aviation Ministry for the
implementation the scheme at the secretariat.
iii. UDAN making regional connectivity at low cost so that
common people could opt for air travel.
2. BRICS MEDIA FORUM
HELD IN BEIJING & ONE MILLION DOLLAR FUND ESTABLISHED FOR BRICS MEDIA
i. BRICS Media Forum was held in Beijing, China. The forum
was attended by the leaders of over 25 media groups from Brazil, India, Russia,
China and South Africa.
ii. President of Xinhua News Agency, Cai Mingzhao and
executive president of the BRICS Media Forum announced that Xinhua will provide
1 million U.S. dollars to establish the BRICS Media Fund.
iii. This fund will be utilised for the implementation of
the action plan to strengthen cooperation among BRICS Media.
3. HDFC BANK TO CHARGE
FOR UPI TRANSACTIONS FROM 10 JULY
i. HDFC Bank informed to all of its customers that it will
impose the new transaction charges on all outward UPI transactions as well as
the benefits of using UPI for transferring funds from July 10.
ii. Transactions from Rs 1 to Rs 25,000 will be charged Rs 3
plus taxes while transactions above Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh will be charged Rs
5, as against this the NEFT charges are Rs 2.5 for transactions up to Rs 10,000
and Rs 5 for transactions above Rs 10,000.
iii. Chief operating officer, NPCI, Dilip Asbe, denoted that
according to National Payments Corporation of India, banks may impose charges
on UPI transactions but only those pertaining to P2P transfers.
iv. Person to Merchant transactions in UPI will remain free
to customers as per NPCI guidelines.
4. FORTUNE 500: TESLA
AND 19 COMPANIES JOINED THE LIST IN 2017
i. Elon Musk’s electric car startup Tesla along with other
19 companies has featured in Fortune magazine’s annual list of America’s top
500 companies for the first time.
ii. Tesla ranked 383 on the list on account of stellar sales
growth of 73% last year.
iii. Walmart topped the Fortune 500 list for 5th year in a
row.
iv. The combined total revenue of all 500 companies in the
list touched $12.1 trillion, which is 65% of the U.S. GDP.
5. LVB APPOINTS BK
MANJUNATH AS PART-TIME CHAIRMAN
i. Lakshmi Vilas Bank has appointed B K Manjunath as a
part-time chairman for three years.
ii. LVB informed the stock exchange that subsequent to
approval granted by the Reserve Bank of India, the Board of Directors of the
bank at their meeting have co-opted B K Manjunath as additional director in the
category of Non- Executive and Independent Director.
iii. Manjunath has experience and knowledge in project
financing, business administration and management.
iv. Manjunath had also served as an Independent director of
the Bank during the period from 2008 to 2015.
6. MINISTRY OF AYUSH
INAUGURATES 2ND NATIONAL HEALTH EDITORS' CONFERENCE ON YOGA
i. The 2nd National Health Editors’ Conference on Yoga has
begun in New Delhi. The conference aimed at giving insight to the journalists
about the scientific aspects of yoga and its benefits for health.
ii. The theme of the conference is 'Yoga for Health and Harmony'.
The event was inaugurated by Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik.
7. AXIS BANK, FIRST TO
ISSUE BIODEGRADABLE PREPAID GIFT CARDS
i. Axis Bank Ltd has announced biodegradable prepaid gift
cards on the occasion of World Environment Day.
ii. With this, the bank has become the 1st to introduce
biodegradable cards in the country. The card has the look and feel of regular
plastic cards and can be used in PoS terminals and ATMs. Biodegradable cards
can also be recycled.
8. WORLD OCEANS DAY:
JUNE 8 2017
i. World Oceans Day is observed globally on June 8th of every year to honor, help protect, and
conserve the world’s oceans.
ii. Its objective is to build partnerships and strengthen
the commitments needed to implement the Sustainable Development Goal 14 of the
2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
iii. 2017 theme of world ocean day was “Our Oceans, Our
Future“.
