1. GOVT LAUNCHES GST TRAINING PROGRAMME
i. The government has launched a GST training programme to skill around 2 lakh youths in six months and to handle tax compliance issues like invoice making.
ii. The people would be trained under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.  It will be implemented in 14 states and in the next 6 months, 2 lakh people will  GST get complete training about GST.
iii. The new GST training programme helps businesses in areas such as registration and calculation of tax liability under the new tax regime.
iv. The ministry also launched a national portal for assessors and trainers besides 51 new PMKVY centres. Now, the total number of PMKVY centres has increased to 200.
v. To mark the 2nd anniversary of Skill India mission the ministry has inaugurated the training course at 100 centres in the country.

2. MATUNGA BECOMES INDIA’S FIRST RAILWAY STATION RUN BY WOMEN
i. In a bid to empower women, Central Railway has appointed all women staff at suburban Matunga railway station, thereby making it India’s 1st railway station run by women. A formal event to mark all women railway station will be held soon.
ii. A total of 30 women staffers, including 11 booking clerks, 5 Railway Protection Force personnel, 7 ticket checkers are working under the supervision of station manager Mamta Kulkarni since last two weeks.
iii. Matunga railway station, which is located in central Mumbai, gets a huge number of student population as a lot of colleges are located in the area.

3. MOBIKWIK, SAMSUNG PAY TO ENABLE ONE-TAP PAYMENT SOLUTION FOR E-WALLET USERS
i. Samsung Pay and MobiKwik enable one-tap payment solution for e-wallet users. According to the digital payments firm MobiKwik wallet is now integrated with Samsung Pay Mini to enable one-tap payments at more than 1.4 million MobiKwik-powered merchants across the country.
ii. The government has also introduced a number of schemes to promote adoption of e-payment methods like mobile wallets, debit/credit cards and Unified Payment Interface.
iii. Samsung Pay, the mobile payments service of the world’s largest handset maker was launched in India in March 2017. It allows users to just tap and pay using the debit/credit cards and wallets stored on their mobile devices.
iv. Currently, Samsung Pay is available for users of devices like Samsung S8, Samsung S7 Edge, S7, J7 Max and J7 Pro among others.
v. More than 55 million and 1.4 million merchants will benefit from this association.

4. INDONESIA RENAMING PART OF SOUTH CHINA SEA AS NORTH NATUNA SEA
i. Indonesia has become the latest Southeast Asian nation to rename South China Sea as North Natuna Sea.
ii. Indonesia will refer to the northern areas of its exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea as the North Natuna Sea. At a press conference in Jakarta, Deputy Minister for Marine Sovereignty ArifHavas Oegroseno disclosed a new map with the renamed territory.
iii. The part of the renamed area falls in China’s “nine-dash line” waters extending hundreds of miles to the south and east of China’s island province Hainan.
iv. In 2011, the Philippines renamed the waters as the “West Philippine Sea”.
v. The Deputy of Maritime Sovereignty at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Arif Havas Oegroseno, noted the northern side of its exclusive economic zone was the site of oil and gas activity.

5. IIFA AWARDS 2017: NEERJA WINS BEST FILM, SHAHID-ALIA WIN BEST ACTOR AND ACTRESS
i. IIFA Awards 2017, officially known as 18th International Indian Film Academy Awards ceremony was held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA.
ii. Shahid Kapoor won the Best Actor Award for playing Tommy Singh, a Punjabi rockstar struggling with a drug addiction in the film ‘Udta Punjab’.
iii. Alia Bhatt won the Best Actress Award for playing the role of a migrant girl trapped in a drug lord’s house in film ‘Udta Punjab’.
iv. ‘Neerja’ won the Best Film Award, while ‘Pink’ director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury won the award for Best Director.

6. HARINDER PAL SANDHU WINS VICTORIAN OPEN SQUASH TITLE
i. India’s Harinder Pal Sandhu won a Victorian Open squash title, in Melbourne.
ii. Harindar won a 2nd title in two weeks and beat Rex Hedrick of Australia. Third -Seeded Sandhu, who had won the South Australian Open, last week has won his fourth title of the year.

7. FORMER SIKKIM CM NAR BAHADUR BHANDARI PASSES AWAY
i. Former three – term chief ministers of Sikkim, Nar Bahadur Bhandari died at the age of 77.
ii. Bhandari was an obscure school teacher. He became the chief minister of Sikkim for the first time in 1979 on a Janata Parishad ticket and then again in 1984 and 1989 on a Sikkim Sangram Parishad ticket.
iii. The founder of the SSP and he remained the party president. He was also a former president of Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee.

8. “KATIE PRICE UNVEILS NEW NOVEL “”PLAYING WITH FIRE”
i. Katie Price has disclosed the cover for her next novel “Playing With Fire“, which will be available later this year.
ii. The novel has a story of a 27-year-old events manager named Indigo, who falls for restaurant entrepreneur Connor after she is tasked with planning the opening of his new Shoreditch night club.
iii. It will be out on 19th October.
