1. ATAL
PENSION YOJANA COMPLETED 5 YRS
·
As
on 9th May 2020, the total enrolment under the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) stood
at 2,23,54,028 which has completed its 5 years on the same date.
·
The
scheme has been implemented comprehensively across the country covering all
states and Union Territories (UTs).
·
The
male to female subscription ratio of APY is 57:43.
·
The
scheme has been administered by Pension Fund Regulatory and Development
Authority (PFRDA)
·
Launched
on 9th May 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, its objective is to deliver
old age income security particularly to the workers in the unorganised sector
and Government providing guarantee of minimum pension after 60 years of age.
·
It
can be subscribed by any Indian citizen in the age group of 18-40 years having
a bank account.
·
It
provides a minimum guaranteed pension ranging from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 on
attaining 60 years of age.
2. MP BECOMES
1ST IN THE COUNTRY TO LAUNCH ‘FIR AAPKE DWAR YOJANA’
·
Madhya
Pradesh(MP) Home Minister Narottam Mishra launched the
country’s 1st ‘First Information Report(FIR) Aapke Dwar Yojana‘(FIR at
your doorstep) at the new Police Control Room, Bhopal to enable people to file
FIRs from their homes instead of visiting police stations.
·
Launched
helpline ‘Dial 112’ to facilitate immediate availability of
ambulance, police and fire fighting services wherever needed.
·
It
is a pilot project under which a complainant is supposed to dial police
emergency number 100 to lodge an FIR for this purpose the Head Constables
are trained.
3. SC ORDERS
TO RESTORE 4G INTERNET SERVICES IN J&K
·
Supreme
Court(SC) orders
to set up a high-powered committee to look into the demands by petitioners who
seek restoration of 4G internet
services in the Union Territory(UT) Jammu and Kashmir(J&K).

headed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA).

1ST INDIAN TO WIN FED CUP
HEART AWARD 2020

Indian
professional tennis player Sania Mirza (33) has created new history by becoming the 1st Indian
to win Fed Cup Heart Award 2020 for Asia/Oceania zone.
·
She
beats Indonesia’s 16-year-old Priska Madelyn Nugroho for this category &
received the award for her successful return to the court after becoming a
mother.
·
Fed Cup
Heart Award is an International Tennis
Federation(ITF) initiative established in 2009 to recognise players
representing their countries in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas.
5. KUMAR
SANGAKKARA SET TO SERVE SECOND TERM AS MCC PRESIDENT
·
Former
Sri Lanka Skipper Kumar Sangakkara is to serve a second term as the president
of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) since
the activities of the club are postponed.
·
He is
the first non-British President of the Club, he assumed office on 1st October
2019 and entered the list of people who served multiple terms.
6. FIFA U-17
WORLD CUP
·
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the
Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the FIFA (Federation
Internationale de Football Association) U-17 Women’s
World Cup confirmed that the tournament will be held from February 17 till
March 7, 2021.
7. PARA-ATHLETE
DEEPA MALIK ANNOUNCE RETIREMENT

The 1st
Indian woman to earn a medal at the Paralympic Games(silver) Shot-putter
Para-athlete Deepa Malik(49-year-old)
has announced retirement as
per the national sports code so as to hold her post as the President of the Paralympic Committee of
India(PCI).
·
The 1st woman para-athlete to receive Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna on August 29, 2019
and is a recipient of Arjuna Award(2012) & Padma Shri(2017).
8. INTERNATIONAL
NURSES DAY 2020: MAY 12
·
International
Nurses Day (IND) is
an international event observed every year on May 12 globally to commemorate
the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
·
She was
also known as ‘The Lady with the Lamp’. This year the day marks the 200th birth
anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
