1. MITRA SHAKTI – 2021

      The 8th Edition of India-Sri Lanka bilateral joint Military Exercise ‘Mitra Shakti – 2021’ was scheduled to be conducted at Combat Training School, Ampara, Sri Lanka.

      The exercise doesn’t take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19.

 

2. NEW GI TAGS

      Alibaug White Onion & Wada Kolam Rice of Maharashtra, Edayur Chilli and Kuttiattoor Mango of Kerala and Chinnor rice of Madhya Pradesh (MP) got the GI Tag.

      GI tag in India is governed by Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999.

      It is issued by the Geographical Indications Registry (Chennai).

 

3. WORLD’S LARGEST FINTECH FESTIVAL GFF 2021

      India hosted the 2nd edition of Global FinTech Festival (GFF) 2021, the World’s largest virtual fintech festival from September 28 to 30, 2021.

      Theme: ‘FinTech: Empowering a Global Digital Economy’.

 

4. 2021 NOBEL PRIZE IN MEDICINE

      American scientists David Julius and Lebanese-American molecular biologist Ardem Patapoutian won the 2021 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for their discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch.

      The discovery explains how heat, cold and mechanical force can initiate the nerve impulses that allow us to perceive and adapt to the world around us.

 

5. COINDCX’S FIRST BRAND AMBASSADOR

      India’s first crypto unicorn CoinDCX appointed Mr.Amitabh Bachchan as its first Brand Ambassador to increase crypto awareness and to make crypto as an emerging asset class.

      Amitabh is being an crypto investor himself and also launched his own NFT (non-fungible token) recently.

 

6. PM LAUNCHED JJM MOBILE APP

      PM Narendra Modi virtually launched the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) mobile application to create awareness about the mission and to improve the transparency and accountability of schemes under the JJM.

      In August 2021, as per 15th Finance Commission recommendations Rs 1.42 Lakh Crore was allocated to Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) as a tied grant for water & sanitation from FY22 to FY26.

 

7. FC GOA WINS MAIDEN DURAND CUP

      Indian Super League side FC Goa win their maiden Durand Cup Football Tournament title after a 1-0 win over local giants Mohammedan Sporting Club in the final at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, West Bengal.

      Captain Edu Bedia scored the winner from a free kick in the 105th minute after the match went into the extra time.

 

8. INDIA OBSERVES 2021 WILDLIFE WEEK FROM OCT 2 TO 8

      In India, Wildlife Week is annually observed from October 2 to October 8 across the country with an aim to protect and preserve the flora and fauna of India.

      The 2021 Wildlife Week, the 67th edition, is being celebrated with the theme ‘Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet’

 

9. WORLD ANIMAL DAY 2021-  OCTOBER 4

      World Animal Day is celebrated annually on October 4, the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

      The day is celebrated to take action for animal rights and welfare.

 

10.1ST INDIAN DRONE TO DELIVER COVID-19 VACCINES

      Union Minister Mansukh Laxmanbhai Mandaviya, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) launched a delivery model namely ‘ICMR’s Drone Response and Outreach in North East (i-Drone)’. 

      This will ensure the reach of life-saving vaccines to everyone.

      ICMR tested the vaccine delivery capacity of drones in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur.

 

11. INDIA’S FIRST VERTICAL LIFT RAILWAY BRIDGE

      The Ministry of Railways announced that the construction work of the new 2.05 km Pamban railway bridge in Mandapam will be completed by March 2022.

      The bridge will connect Rameswaram to the mainland in Tamil Nadu.

      It will be India’s first vertical lift railway bridge over the sea.

 

12. RBI GRANTED LICENCE TO NARCL

      RBI gave a licence to the Rs 6,000 crore National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) to start operations of the bad bank.

      The licence was granted under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act, 2002.

      Board of NARCL: Padmakumar Madhavan Nair, a stressed assets expert from the State Bank of India (SBI) was hired as the Managing Director (MD) of NARCL.

 

13. 2021 NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSICS

      Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences at Stockholm, Sweden honoured the Japanese-American Syukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann of Germany, and Giorgio Parisi of Italy for 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics.

      Syukuro Manabe, a Japanese-American meteorologist and climatologist and Klaus Hasselmann, a German oceanographer have been for the physical modelling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming.

      Giorgio Parisi has been recognized for the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales.

 

14. BOOK ON GANDHI’S POLITICAL ECONOMY

      The book titled Economist Gandhi: The Roots and the Relevance of the Political Economy of the Mahatma published by Penguin Random House provide insights into a hidden facet of Gandhi’s personality – his thoughts on economics and capitalism.

      The book was authored by retired entrepreneur Jerry Rao (Jaithirth Rao).

 

15. NATIONAL PENSION SYSTEM DIWAS 2021 – OCTOBER 1

      India celebrated the first-ever National Pension System Diwas (NPS Diwas) on 1st October 2021 to promote pension and retirement planning for a carefree ‘azad’ retirement.

      NPS diwas is a campaign of Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority(PFRDA) launched as a part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.

 

16. WORLD HABITAT DAY 2021 – 4 OCTOBER

      The United Nations (UN)’s World Habitat Day is annually observed across the globe on the first Monday of October to highlight the role of the citizens towards shaping the future of cities and towns.

      World Habitat Day 2021 was observed on 4th October 2021.

      The theme of World Habitat Day 2021 is “Accelerating urban action for a carbon-free world”.

 

17. WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY 2021 – OCTOBER 5

      The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s World Teachers’s Day is annually observed across the globe on 5th October to celebrate the teachers across the globe.

      The theme of World Teachers’ Day 2021 is “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”.
