NATIONAL FILM HERITAGE MISSION
·
Union
Minister of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) Shri. Anurag Singh Thakur
has announced the World’s largest film restoration project under National Film
Heritage Mission (NFHM) with a budget of Rs.363 crores .
·
The
restoration project is set to begin at National Film Archive of India (NFAI).
·
NFAI
undertook the restoration of 10 prestigious Satyajit Ray films. Of which,
Pratidwandi has been selected to premiere in the Cannes Classics section of the
2022 edition.
·
Films
such as ‘Neelakuyil’ (Malayalam) and
‘Do AakheinBarahHaath’ (Hindi) will also be covered.
·
Restoration
process includes The frame-to-frame digital and semi-automated manual picture
and sound restoration from the best surviving source material.

UN APPROVES CZECH REPUBLIC TO REPLACE RUSSIA ON UN HUMAN
RIGHTS COUNCIL
·
The
U.N. General Assembly (UNGA) elected Czech Republic to replace Russia in the UN
Human Rights Council (UNHRC) through voting process, following Russia’s
suspension over allegations of horrific rights violations by Russian soldiers
in Ukraine.
·
UNGA’s
180 members of the 193 members deposited their secret ballot vote.
·
The
result was 157 countries in favour of the Czech Republic and 23 abstentions.
·
UNHRC is an
inter-governmental body within the United Nations system responsible for
strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe.

TEMPLETON PRIZE 2022
·
American
Theoretical physicist and author, Dr Frank Wilczek, who won the Nobel Prize
(Physics) in 2004, has been awarded the Templeton Prize 2022, the world’s
largest individual lifetime achievement award, valued at over USD 1.3
million.
·
Dr
Frank Wilczek has
authored several books which include, “A Beautiful Question” (2015); “The Lightness of Being” (2008); “Fundamentals” (2021)
·
Indians
who have won the Templeton Prize: Pandurang Shastri Athavale (1997); Baba Amte
(1990); Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1975).

2022 IWF JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
·
The
International Weightlifting Federation’s (IWF) 2022 Junior World Weightlifting
Championships was held at Heraklion Indoor Sports Arena, Heraklion, Greece,

Harshada Sharad Garud bags first Gold Medal for India.She won the gold medal in
45 kilogram (kg) Women’s Category. Cansu
BektaÅŸ (Turkey) bags silver
·
The
Indian Weightlifters Gyaneshwari Yadav and V Rithika bagged Silver and Bronze
medal respectively in 49 kg Women’s Category.
·
Before
Harshada, only two Indians won medals in IWF Junior World Championships they
are – Mirabai Chanu won Bronze medal in 2013 and AchintaSheuli won Silver medal
in 2021.

INDIA CONTRIBUTES USD 800,000 TO PROMOTE HINDI LANGUAGE AT UN

The
government of India has contributed USD 800,000 to the United Nations(UN) as
part of the initiative which aims to enhance public outreach of the
organisation in Hindi.
·
R
Ravindra, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, handed
over a cheque for the ‘Hindi @ UN’ project to MitaHosali, Deputy Director and
Officer-In-Charge (News and Media Division), UN Department of Global
Communications (DGC).
·
The
project was launched by India in 2018 in collaboration with the UN Department
of Public Information to disseminate information about the UN to the
Hindi-speaking population across the world.

RANIL WICKREMESINGHE SWORN IN SRI LANKA’S NEW PRIME MINISTER
·
Gotabaya
Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, has appointed Ranil Wickremesinghe, leader
of the United National Party(opposition party) as the new Prime Minister(PM) of
Sri Lanka, following the resignation of his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa who
resigned from his post of PM of Sri Lanka amid mass protest over the economic
crisis.

CAMPBELL WILSON APPOINTED AS CEO & MD OF AIR INDIA

Tata
Sons Private Limited(Tata Sons), owned by Tata Group, appointed Campbell Wilson
as the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) and Managing Director(MD) of Air
India.
·
Campbell
Wilson has resigned his position as the CEO of Scoot Pte Ltd, the wholly-owned
low-cost airline subsidiary of Singapore Airlines(SIA), for his stint in Air
India.
