1.       TRW’S ROAD ACCIDENTS IN INDIA 2020

·         As per report ‘Road accidents in India — 2020’, prepared by Transport Research Wing (TRW) of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the number of road accidents has been on decline since 2016 except for a marginal increase of 0.46 per cent in 2018. 

·         Traffic accidents declined by 18.46% on average, deaths decreased by 12.84%, and injuries decreased by 22.84% in 2020.

·         A decline in the number of fatal accidents, i.e., accidents involving at least one death. A total of 1, 20,806 fatal accidents were reported in 2020, which is 12.23 per cent lower than the 2019 figure of 1, 37,689.

 

2.       RBI’S ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2021-2022

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its ‘Annual report for 2021-2022’ has cautioned commercial banks of the risk of increased slippages on advances that were restructured during the Covid-19 pandemic.

·         Slippages are when a bank’s assets become a non-performing asset (NPA) owing to the borrower not paying interest for over 90 days.

·         As per the Annual Report Data, RBIs balance sheet has increased by Rs 4,82,633.14 crore, i.e, 8.46% from Rs 57,07,669.13 crore as on March 31, 2021 to Rs 61,90,302.27 crore as on March 31, 2022.

·         The total number of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs) of all denominations detected in the banking sector increased to 2,30,971 pieces from 2,08,625 pieces in the previous fiscal.

 

3.       FORTUNE 500 WORLD’S TOP 10 HIGHEST-PAID CEOS IN 2021

·         Elon Musk, Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Tesla and SpaceX has topped the Fortune 500’s list of the World’s top 10 highest paid CEO in 2021.

·         Elon Musk is followed by Tim Cook, CEO of Apple(USD 770.5 million) ranked 2nd

·         SatyaNadella, CEO of Microsoft, who received a salary of USD 309.4 million in 2021, has secured the 7th rank on the list. He is the only Indian origin person to feature on the list.

 

4.       RAJESH GERA APPOINTED DG OF NATIONAL INFORMATICS CENTRE (NIC)

·         Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of the Senior Scientist Rakesh Gera as the Director General, National Informatics Centre (NIC) under Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY).

·         ACC approved the appointment of Kimbuong Kipgen as Secretary, Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB)

 

5.       GOI PLANS TO LAUNCH ‘JAN SAMARTH’, A COMMON PORTAL TO IMPROVE THE EASE OF LIVING

·         The government of India(GoI) is set to launch a ‘Jan Samarth’ portal to improve the ease of living for the common man.

·         This is a common portal for the delivery of various schemes run by different ministries and departments.

·         Initially, the new portal plans to onboard 15 credit-linked government schemes, as a part of GoI’s vision of Minimum Government Maximum Governance.

·         The portal aims to bring together several schemes on a single platform and enable the beneficiaries to access them without any hassle.

 

6.       GUJARAT TITANS – WINNERS OF IPL 2022 

·         Gujarat Titans (GT) led by Captain Hardik Himanshu Pandya won the 15th edition of TATA sponsored Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 by defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

·         Ashish Nehra becomes the first Indian Head coach (Gujarat Titans) to win an IPL trophy.

·         Women’s T20 Challenge (2022) took place in India, in which a total of 3 teams participated. Supernovas women (Supernovas) won the Women’s T20 Challenge 2022, defeating Velocity which was held at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, Maharashtra.

 

7.       MEN’S ASIA CUP HOCKEY 

·         India beat Japan and won the bronze medal at 2022 Hero Men’s Hockey Asia Cup  which was held at the GBK Sports Complex in Jakarta,Indonesia

·         South Korea won the gold medal by grabbing the 5th Men’s Hockey Asia Cup title.

·         Malaysia was second and won the silver medal.

·         The top three teams not already qualified will qualify for the 2023 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup.

·         India will host the 2023 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup or 15th edition of the Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup.

·         Top scorer of the tournament: Razie Rahim of Malaysia who scored 13 goals.

·         Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament: Takashi Yoshikawa of Japan

·         Rising Star of the Tournament: India’s Uttam Singh

·         Hero Best Player of the Tournament: Jang Jonghyun of Korea

 

8.       UN AGREES TO CHANGE TURKEY’S OFFICIAL NAME TO ‘TÃœRKIYE’

·         The United Nations (UN) has approved to recognise the Republic of Turkey as ‘Türkiye’, pronounced “tur-key-YAY”, following the request from the government of Turkey.

·         “Türkiye” will now be used in all foreign languages and the country’s full official name will be “Republic of Türkiye”.

·         Türkiye President– Recep Tayyip Erdogan,Capital– Ankara,Currency- Turkish lira

 

9.       RBI’S FIRST GLOBAL HACKATHON

·         ToneTag, a brand of Naffa Innovations Pvt Ltd, has been named the winner of two categories in the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) first global hackathon, HARBINGER 2021.

·         In November 2021, the RBI launched its first global hackathon, “HARBINGER 2021-Innovation for Transformation,” with the theme “Smarter Digital Payments.”

 

10.    INDIA INX &LUXSE SIGNS AGREEMENT TO STRENGTHEN COOPERATION

·         The Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) and the India International Exchange (IFSC) Limited (India INX) signed a cooperation agreement in the Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City in Gujarat.

·         During the occasion, the admission of a green bond issued by the Indian company Power Finance Corporation Limited to LuxSE was announced.

 

11.    TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION (THE) AWARDS ASIA 2022

·         Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences in Solan, Himachal Pradesh has been highly commended under the “Outstanding Support for Students” category of the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2022.3 Indian institutes were recognised in THE Awards Asia 2022

·         Taylor’s University, Malaysia was declared a winner under the Outstanding Support for Students category. 

·         Savitriba Phule Pune University, Pune, Maharashtra has won the ‘THE Awards Asia 2022’ under the “THE Datapoints Research Improvement Award” category.

12.    FORBES: LEBRON JAMES BECAME THE 1ST ACTIVE NBA PLAYER TO BECOME BILLIONAIRE 

·         According to the Forbes estimation, LeBron Raymone James Sr., an American professional basketball player representing the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA), has officially become a billionaire with a net worth of USD 1 billion.

·         Michael Jordan became the first NBA player to become a billionaire in 2014, almost 11 years after he retired as a player.

 

13.    SANTOOR MAESTRO PADMA SHRI PANDIT BHAJANSOPORI PASSES AWAY

·         Santoor Maestro and Padma Shri awardee Shri Pandit BhajanSapori passed away.He often referred to as the ‘saint of santoor’ and ‘king of strings’ for his mastery over the instrument.

·         He was born in Sopore in Kashmir Valley in 1948 and belonged to the Sufiana gharana of Indian classical music. 

·         He was great-grandson of Pandit Shankar Pandit, who had developed the style popularly known as the ‘Sufi Baaj’ (style)
The Indian santoor instrument is built primarily of walnut and has 25 bridges.

·         Each bridge has four strings, for a total of 100.

·         It is a traditional instrument from ancient times in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

14.    WORLD BICYCLE DAY 2022 – JUNE 3RD 

·         The United Nations (UN)’s World Bicycle Day is annually observed across the globe on 3rd June to create awareness about the social, economic and environmental benefits of cycling.

·         On 3rd June 2022, The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organised World Bicycle Day 2022 as a part of the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav-India@75.
