1.       INDIA AND MEXICO SIGNED MOU ON RESEARCH, TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION

·         Through this MoU, India’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Mexican Agencies can provide their effective inputs to the global society with Research and Innovation Partnerships for technology development,

2.       SWACHH SUJAL SHAKTI SAMMAN 2023

·         The “Swachh Sujal Shakti Samman (SSSS) 2023″ was organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti in preparation of International Women’s Day (March 8, 2023)

·         ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan – Catch the Rain 2023’ (JSA: CTR-2023) campaign [4th in its series], with the theme “Source Sustainability for Drinking Water,” was launched by President

 

3.       YUVA UTSAV LAUNCHED ACROSS INDIA

·         Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Information & Broadcasting, launched the Yuva Utsava-India@2047 from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar in Punjab.

·         “Yuva Utsav India @2047” is being held in all Indian districts by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MoYAS) through its flagship youth organisation, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS).

 

4.       WORLD’S 1ST 200-METER-LONG BAMBOO CRASH BARRIER

·         The world’s first 200-meter-long Bamboo Crash Barrier named “Bahu Balli” has been installed on the Vani-Warora Highway in Vidarbha, Maharashtra.

·         Bahu Balli barrier is made of Bambusa Balcoa bamboo, which has been coated with recycled High-Density Poly Ethylene  (HDPE) and treated with creosote oil.

 

5.       INTERNATIONAL MARITIME EXERCISE CUTLASS EXPRESS 2023

·         Indian Navy Ship (INS) Trikand is participating in the International Maritime Exercise/ Cutlass Express 2023 (IMX/CE-23) being held in the Gulf region

·         TheTalwar-class stealth frigate, INS Trikand is the third and final ship of the second batch of Talwar-class frigates ordered by the Indian Navy and was commissioned into Indian Navy service on 29th June 2013.

·         It was built by the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia and is commanded by Captain Ajay Kochhar.

·         The other two Talwar-class frigates were INS Teg and INS Tarkash.

 

6.       WORLD BANK’S WOMEN, BUSINESS, AND THE LAW REPORT

·         According to the 9th edition of the World Bank’s “Women, Business, and the Law 2023” report, women across the world only have 77% of the legal rights that men do, and nearly 2.4 billion women of working age live in countries that do not provide them the same rights as men.

·         From 2021 to 2022, the global average score on the Women, Business, and Law index increased just by half a point to 77.1.

·         “Women, Business, and the Law 2023” examines laws and regulations impacting women’s economic participation in 190 economies from 1971 to 2023 (calendar years 1970 to 2022).

·         The report focuses on eight indicators: Mobility, Workplace, Pay, Marriage, Parenthood, Entrepreneurship, Assets, and Pensions.

·         Only 34 gender-related legal reforms were noted in 18 economies in 2022, the lowest since 2001.

·         At the current rate, it would take at least 50 years on average to achieve considerable legal gender equality everywhere in the areas and it will need another 1,549 reforms to reach that target.

 

7.       BBC ISWOTY 2022 AWARD

·         Indian Weightlifter, Padma Shri Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, who became the 1st Indian weightlifter to win the silver medal at Tokyo Olympic Games, has won the 4th edition of the “British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Indian Sportswoman Of The Year (ISWOTY) 2022”.

·         MirabaiChanu, the 28-year-old Commonwealth champion, became the first athlete to win the award twice in a row. Previously, She also won the BBC ISWOTY 2021.

 

8.       KUWAIT PRIME MINISTER

·         Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah is re-appointed as Prime Minister(PM) of the state of Kuwait Government.

9.       SHIP LAUNCHED VERSION OF BRAHMOS MISSILE TEST-FIRED

·         The Indian Navy (IN) successfully test fired the Ship launched version of the BrahMos supersonic missile in the Arabian Sea.

·         The test was carried out from a Kolkata-class guided missile destroyer warship.

·         BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd, an India-Russian joint venture between the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Russian Federation’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya. It produces BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms.

·         BrahMos missile flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound.

·         Its Flight Range is 290 Km and Operates on Fire and Forget Principle

·         In January 2022, India signed a USD 375 million deal with the Philippines for supplying three batteries of the missile.

 

10.    S-400 `TRIUMF’ SURFACE-TO-AIR DEFENCE MISSILE SYSTEM

·         The Indian Air Force (IAF) received the third squadron of the S-400 `Triumf’ Surface-to-air defence missile system from Russia which will be deployed along the western sector, bordering Pakistan.

·         In October 2018, India and Russia signed a deal of $5.43 billion for the procurement of 5 units of S-400 air defence systems to India by 2025.

·         The S-400 defence missile has a range of up to 400 km and it has a tracking capability of almost 600 km.

 

11.    BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

·         Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, a Belgian-Dutch driver, won the 2023 Season-Opener Bahrain Grand Prix, which was held at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain (officially the Kingdom of Bahrain).

·         Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso finished 2nd and 3rd consecutively

 

12.    AIRBUS RECEIVES ORDER FROM INDIA FOR TWO ACH160 HELICOPTERS

·         Airbus Corporate Helicopters (Airbus) has received an order for two ACH160 helicopters in India, marking the first sale of any helicopter in the H160 range in the region.

·         With 68 new Airbus patented technologies, the ACH160 is the latest member of the ACH family and the most technologically advanced helicopter in the world.

·         In comparison to medium twin helicopters of a previous generation, it offers 20% more volume per passenger and 35% larger windows, giving it the brightest cabin in its class.

 

13.    TEJAL MEHTA NAMED FIRST JUSTICE OF A DISTRICT COURT IN US

·         Tejal Mehta, an Indian-American woman judge who promised to make a real impact to the community and treat people with compassion, has taken oath as the first Justice of a district court in the US state of Massachusetts.

·         Mehta will serve as the first Justice of the Ayer District Court

 

14.    NSDC ENGAGES ISB AS KNOWLEDGE PARTNER FOR G-20 EDUCATION WORKING GROUP

·         The Indian School of Business (ISB) is collaborating with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), as a knowledge partner for the G-20 Education Working Group (EWG).

·         As part of this collaboration, ISB will provide research support to NSDC in the broad area of the ‘future of work’.

 

15.    RBI LAUNCHES MISSION ‘HAR PAYMENT DIGITAL’

·         The Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Shaktikanta Das launched the mission ‘Har Payment Digital’ as part of the Digital Payments Awareness Week (DPAW).

·         The DPAW 2023 was being observed by RBI from March 6 to 12, 2023 to further deepen the usage of digital payments across India.

·         The campaign theme of DPAW 2023 is “Digital Payment Apnao, Auron ko bhi Sikhao” (Adopt digital payments and Also teach others).

·         RBI also plans to initiate a programme named ‘75 Digital Villages’ in observance of 75 years of Independence.

·         Under the programme, 75 villages across India will be adopted by Payment System Operators (PSOs) to convert them into digital payment-enabled villages.

 

16.    CHIEF MINISTER OF MEGHALAYA

·         Conrad Kongkal Sangma ,President of the National People’s Party (NPP), was sworn in as the Chief Minister (CM) of Meghalaya

·         The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance took power for the second time after the NPP received support from the BJP, United Democratic Party (UDP), People’s Democratic Front (PDF), Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), and a few independents.

·         The NPP emerged as the single-largest party in the elections after winning 26 of the state’s 60 seats

 

17.    CHIEF MINISTER OF NAGALAND

·         Neiphiu Rio, leader of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) of Nagaland, was sworn in as Chief Minister (CM) of Nagaland for the 5th time

·         In the 2023 elections for the 60-member Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the BJP-NDPP coalition won 37 seats: BJP-12 seats and NDPP-25 seats.

 

18.    CONTROLLER GENERAL OF ACCOUNTS OF INDIA

·         S.S. Dubey, a 1989-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer, took charge as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Ministry of Finance (MoF)

·         He is the 28th CGA of the Government of India.

·         The Controller General of Accounts (CGA) is ‘the Principal Advisor’ on Accounting matters to the Union Government.

·         INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2023-8 MARCH

·         The first International Women’s Day was observed in 1911
