Bank (WB) Group appointed Yuko Keicho, a
Japanese national, as Vice President (VP) and Auditor General, strengthening
its governance and internal audit framework.

She will lead the Internal Audit Vice Presidency (IAD), overseeing governance, risk
management, and operational integrity across World Bank Group institutions.

NEW KING OF NORWAY
·
Crown Prince Haakon, became King Haakon VIII following
the death of his father King Harald V, succeeding as the
monarch and Head of State of the Kingdom of Norway.

He
has also served as a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Goodwill
Ambassador and contributed to various philanthropic and
international initiatives.

PRESIDENT OF ESGF

Ashish Shelar, Maharashtra Minister for Electronics, Information
Technology (IT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development and Cultural Affairs,
was elected President of the Esports Games
Federation (ESGF).
·
ESGF: Established in
2024 and headquartered in New Delhi,
the ESGF is the national body
dedicated to the promotion, regulation and development of esports and mind
sports in India.
·
It is affiliated with the Global Esports Federation (GEF) and
International Esports Federation (IESF) and is recognised by the Paralympic
Committee of India (PCI).

RBI APPOINTS SUMAN RAY AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) appointed Suman
Ray as Executive Director (ED).
·
Prior to his promotion, he served as
Regional Director for Maharashtra, reflecting his extensive experience within
the central bank.
·
He
will oversee the Deposit Insurance and
Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) and the Premises Department.
·
RBI Established on 1 April 1935
under the Reserve Bank of India Act,
1934, and is headquartered in Mumbai with Sanjay Malhotra as its current
Governor.

FIRST NON-MEDICAL WOMAN TWO-STAR OFFICER IN INDIAN DEFENCE
FORCES

Air
Vice Marshal (AVM) Shakti Sharma created history by
becoming the first woman officer from the non-medical stream of the Indian
Defence Forces to attain the rank of AVM or equivalent.
·
She assumed the appointment of Assistant
Chief of the Air Staff (Education) at Air Headquarters, New Delhi.
·
IAF Established on 8 October 1932, the IAF is headquartered in New
Delhi and headed by Chief of the Air
Staff Amar Preet Singh.
·
Its
motto is “Nabha Sparsham Deeptam.”

PM Jan Dhan Yojana Completes 12 Years
·
The
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) completed 12
years, emerging as the world’s largest financial inclusion
initiative and transforming access to formal banking services across India.
·
The
PMJDY was launched on 28 August 2014 as National
Mission for Financial Inclusion by the Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi.
·
The
Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance (MoF) is the nodal department for the
implementation of PMJDY.
·
The slogan of PMJDY is “Mera Khata – Bhagya
Vidhata” (My Account – My Fortune).
·
As
of 19 August 2026, a total of 59.09 crore (Cr) PMJDY
accounts had been opened, with total deposits of Rs 3.17 lakh
Cr.
·
Women hold 55.7% of
PMJDY accounts, amounting to around 32.92 Cr accounts.

ESTABLISHMENT OF MEDIATION COUNCIL OF INDIA
·
The
Department of Legal Affairs (DoLA) which works under
the Ministry of Law & Justice (MoLJ) notified the establishment of
the “Mediation Council of India (MCI)” with its head
office in New Delhi, to promote domestic
and international mediation and strengthen India’s dispute-resolution
framework.
·
The
Council comprises a Chairperson, two Members, three ex-officio Members
and one part-time Member
representing a recognised body of commerce and industry.
·
Non-ex-officio Members serve for four
years and are
eligible for reappointment, subject to an age limit of 70 years for the
Chairperson and 67 years for other Members.

AISHE 2022-23 & 2023-24
·
The
Department of Higher Education (DoHE), Ministry of
Education (MoE) released the 13th and 14th edition
of All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) for 2022-23 and 2023-24, respectively,
providing an evidence base for tracking
developments and reforms in higher education, including those aligned with
the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The AISHE reports highlighted the number of universities increasing
from 760 (in 2014–15) to 1,289 in 2023–24 (+69.6%); number of colleges increasing from
38,498 to 48,246 (+25.3%); and standalone institutions increasing from
12, 276 to 15,221 institutions (+
nearly 24%).
·
The data of the reports further showed that total enrolment in India’s higher
education increased by 31.5%, from 3.42 crore
students (in 2014-15) to 4.50 crore (in 2023-24).
·

GOLLALA GUDI TEMPLE DECLARED MONUMENT OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE
·
The
Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Ministry of Culture (MoC) declared Gollala
Gudi in Palampet village,
Mulugu district, Telangana a ‘Monument of National Importance’, taking the number of sites under the ASI to 10 in
Telangana.
·
The
temple is located south-west of the
UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization)
World Heritage Site Kakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) Temple in
Palampet.
·
The
temple is a Trikutalaya, meaning a
shrine with three sanctum structures.
·
Mandapa: An east-facing mandapa
(pillared hall).
·
Three Sanctums: It has three
garbhagrihas (sanctum sanctorums).
·
Central Sanctum: The central
garbhagriha houses a Shiva Lingam.

INDIA, GERMANY DEEPEN GREEN PARTNERSHIP

India and Germany signed a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI)
on the Conservation and Wise Use of
Wetlands of International Importance during the 4th Indo-German Environment
Forum (IGEF) under the
theme of “Together for More Resilience” in New Delhi.
