A Campaign on Promoting
Digital Transactions in 50000 Gram Panchayats namely ‘SAMARTH’ under the AzadiKaAmritMahotsav was launched in Lucknow,
Uttar Pradesh by the Union Minister Giriraj Singh, Ministry of Rural
Development (MoRD).

This campaign was already
initiated on February 1, 2023, to promote
Digital Transactions in rural areas, particularly among women.

The BC (Banking Correspondent) Sakhis in UP brought digital
transformation to the tune of 5 Crore 57 lakh transactions.
·
BC
SakhiYojana was launched by the CM of UP to
benefit the women residents of the state by providing employment possibilities
through this scheme.
·
Under the scheme, the
state govt deploys BC Sakhi in rural regions to eliminate the need for rural
residents to travel to the bank as Sakhi delivers the money to their doorstep.

According to ‘Levels
and trends in child malnutrition: United Nations Children’s Fund/World
Health Organization/International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, The
World Bank Group: the Joint Child
Malnutrition Estimates (UNICEF/WHO/The World Bank Group: JME) key findings of
the 2023 edition’ report released,18.7%
of Indian children were affected by wasting in 2020 due to poor nutrient intake
and/or recurrent illnesses.

India is the largest
country in southern Asia, which has half of all children with wasting in the
world live.
·
In 2022, an estimated 45 million children under five (6.8%) were
affected by wasting globally, of which 13.6 million (2.1%) were suffering
from severe wasting.
·
India
had a stunting rate of 31.7% in 2022,
compared to 41.6 % in 2012, a decade ago.
·
India
had an overweight percentage of 2.8% in 2022,
compared to 2.2% in 2012.

SETS UP INTERMEDIARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Securities and
Exchange Board of India (SEBI) constituted a 21-member Intermediary Advisory Committeechaired by the former SEBI executive
director(ED) S Ravindran.

The committee will advise SEBI on changes in legal framework
and increasing transparency in the functioning
of market intermediaries like stock exchanges, depository participants,
clearing corporations, among others.

SEBI was constituted as a
non-statutory body in 1988 and later it was established as a statutory body in

APPROVES AMALGAMATION OF MARATHA CO-OP BANK WITH COSMOS CO-OPERATIVE BANK

The Reserve Bank of India
(RBI) sanctioned the merging of the voluntary Scheme of Amalgamation of Maratha
SahakariBank Ltd., Mumbai (Maharashtra)
with the Cosmos Co-operative Bank Ltd, Pune (Maharashtra).
·
It is the second largest
urban cooperative bank of India through Voluntary scheme of amalgamation from
May 29, 2023, in exercise of its powers conferred under Sub-Section (4) of Section 44A read with Section 56 of the Banking
Regulation (BR) Act, 1949.
·
A voluntary scheme of amalgamation refers to a merger or
consolidation of two or more companies based on their mutual agreement and
voluntary decision. The Companies Act, 2013, governs the process and
regulations related to amalgamations and mergers in India.

Princess Sophia Duleep Singh, a suffragette Indian princess, Red Cross nurse,

Sophia Duleep Singh was
Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s
granddaughter and the daughter of
Maharaja Duleep Singh, the last ruler of the Sikh empire and the goddaughter
of Queen Victoria.

In 1910, she was also a
part of the action on “Black Friday”,
where more than 300 Suffragettes marched on Parliament.

Suffragette is a woman
seeking the right to vote through
organized protest.

She supported the Indian

World War I and housed refugees during World War II.

Sophia Duleep Singh, the last princess of the Sikh Empire died

PM NARENDRA MODI INAUGURATED NEW PARLIAMENT
HOUSE

Prime Minister NarendraModi inaugurate the new building of Parliament
House and dedicated it to the nation and installed theSengol with Nandi at the top facing East-West direction in the new
Parliament House.

The new parliament building includes the LokSabha, RajyaSabha, Central
Lounge, Central Hall for joint session, Constitutional hall, open courtyard and
Offices.
·
The new LokSabha has a seating capacity of 888 members, almost
thrice the number compared to the current chamber of 552 seats.
·
The new RajyaSabha complex have a
seating capacity of 384 members compared to 245 seats of the current
chamber.
·
PM NarendraModi placed the historic
sceptre ‘Sengol’ near the LokSabha Speaker’s chair in the newly built
Parliament building. The name of the
historical sceptre, ‘Sengol’ was derived from the Tamil word ‘semmai,’ meaning
‘righteousness/full of wealth’.
·
PM unveiled a commemorative stamp
and a special Rs 75 coin during the inauguration of the new Parliament
building.
·
The coin is made from a four-part alloy, comprising 50% silver, 40%
copper, 5% nickel and 5% zinc.

ATAL BHUJAL YOJANA WATER SCHEME EXTENDED FOR
ANOTHER 2 YEARS

The National Level Steering Committee (NLSC) at its fourth meeting held
in New Delhi, Delhi has made a decision for the continuation of the AtalBhujalYojana (AtalJal), India’s Central
Sector water conservation Scheme for an additional two years beyond its original
2025 end date.

The AtalBhujalYojana Scheme is facilitating sustainable ground water management since April 2020, as a Central
Sector Scheme under the Department of Water Resources (DoWR), River Development
(RD) and Ganga Rejuvenation (GR), Ministry of Jal Shakti.

the GSLV-F12/NVS-01
mission and placed a second-generation Navigation Satellite, NVS-01, into
geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO).

The satellite was carried through a 51.7-metre-tall, 3-stage
Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) rocket with a cryogenic upper
stage and lifted off from the SatishDhawan

conclusion of the negotiations of a first-of-its-kind international ‘IPEF Supply
Chain Agreement’ at the IPEF Ministerial Meeting
which was held in Detroit, Michigan, the United States of America(USA).

The agreement over Supply Chain (Pillar II) aims to increase the
resilience, efficiency, productivity, sustainability, transparency,

ASTRONAUT JOINS SPACE STATION MISSION

China successfully launched the Shenzhou-16
manned spaceship, sending three
astronauts, including the first civilian to its Tiangong space station for
5-month mission.

It was launched onboard Long March-2F carrier rocket from the Jiuquan
Satellite Launch Centre in Gobi Desert in northwest China.

INDIA CONDUCTS ASIA’S 1ST PERFORMANCE-BASED
HELICOPTER NAVIGATION
·
India conducted Asia’s first demonstration of performance-based navigation for helicopters. The flight from Juhu (a suburb of Mumbai), Maharashtra to
Pune, Maharashtra was made using GAGAN
(GPS(Global Positioning System) Aided GEO Augmented Navigation) satellite
technology, which allows high-quality of air traffic management.
·
The GAGAN technology was jointly developed
by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Airports Authority of India(AAI).:
·
The GAGAN technology supports the aircraft/helicopters with guided
landing at airports which do not have instrument landing systems for
low-visibility operations.
·
The GAGAN is a state-of-the-art space-based augmentation system that
uses a system of ground stations to provide necessary augmentations to the GPS
standard positioning service(SPS) navigation signal.
·
GAGAN is the regional Satellite
Based Augmentation System (SBAS) implemented by the government of India.

NATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE FOR FSSAI
·
Union Minister DrMansukhMandaviya, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
(MoH&FW) inaugurated the state-of-the-art
National Training Centre for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India
(FSSAI) at Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh (UP).
·
As mandated by the Food Safety
and Standards (FSS) Act 2006 and the FSS Rules, 2011, FSSAI is responsible
for providing training to individuals involved in food businesses, including
food business operators, employees, Food Safety Officers, and designated
officers.
·
Food Safety and Certification (FoSTaC), an e-
learning app
developed by FSSAI that contains learning and training modules about food
safety guidelines, such as proper food handling, storage, and hygiene practices

MH-60R HELICOPTER MAKES MAIDEN LANDING ON INS

The Indian Navy’s MH-60 ‘Romeo’ (MH-60R) helicopter, known for
its anti-surface and anti-submarine
warfare capabilities, successfully landed for the first time on the Indian
Naval Ship (INS) NS Vikrant, an indigenously designed and constructed aircraft
carrier.

The MH-60R, stationed at the Naval air station INS Garuda in Kochi,
Kerala, made the landing on the indigenously
designed and constructed aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in the Arabian Sea.

The 2023 Arctic Challenge Exercise (ACE 23) scheduled from 29 May 2023 to 9 June 2023, is the sixth of its
kind which Finland, Norway, and Sweden have hosted together.

The addition of Finland doubled the length of the border NATO shares
with Russia, while Finland shares a 1,300-kilometre (800-mile) border with
Russia.

INDIA’S GDP GROWS AT 7.2% IN FY23: UNION GOVT

According to the official data released by the Union Government on May
30, 2023, the Indian Economy’s Gross
Domestic Product (GDP) growth in Q4 FY23 (Fourth Quarter of Financial Year
2022-23) i.e. from January to March 2023 is projected at 6.1% year-on-year
(YoY) when compared to the 4.5%
growth in Q3 FY23 and 4% in FY22.

India’s growth rate for FY23 was projected at 7.2% compared to 9.1% GDP
growth in FY22. Due to this growth, the Indian economy is now USD 3.3 trillion
in size.
