1.       RBI REPORT: STATES GROSS FISCAL DEFICIT BELOW BUDGET ESTIMATE

        Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the report titled “State Finances: A Study of Budgets of 2023-2024”.

        RBI has allowed card-on-file tokenistation (CoFT) through issuer banks or institutions, card networks.

        It will provide cardholders a facility to tokenise their cards for multiple merchant sites (e-commerce sites) through a single process.

        Earlier, RBI had announced to extend this tokenization service to issuer banks and financial institutions as part of the Statement on Development and Regulatory Policies in October, 2023.

        RBI’s model pegged India’s FY25 GDP growth at 6.0%

        RBI developed Dynamic Stochastic General Equilbrium(DSGE) model has projected GDP growth for India at 6.0% for FY25(2024-25).

        RBI’s model projects FY25 retail inflation at 4.8%

        RBI has introduced new norms in order to curb “evergreening” of loans by lenders through Alternate Investment Funds(AIFs).

 

2.       NATIONAL SPORTS AWARDS 2023

        Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) announced the National Sports Awards 2023 which will be conferred on 42 sportspersons, coaches and entities under 5 categories on 9th January 2024 by the President of India,

        Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2023 will be given to the Badminton duo Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty and Rankireddy Satwik Sai Raj.

        Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar (Punjab) won the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy 2023 for the record 25th time.

        Arjuna Awards will be awarded to 26 Awardees.

        Dronacharya Award for Outstanding Coaches in Sports will be awarded to 8 Awardees.

        Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games 2023 will be awarded to 3 Awardees.

 

3.       “PAAT-MITRO” APP TO EMPOWER JUTE FARMERS

        Ministry of Textiles(MoT) has unveiled the ‘Paat-Mitro’ mobile application(app) to provide important information about Minimum Support Price (MSP) and agronomy to jute farmers.

        The app was developed by Jute Corporation of India Limited (JCI), a central public sector undertaking(CPSU) under MoT.

 

4.       ASIAN YOUTH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023:

        Indian chess players Kiyana Parihar (Under -8 Girls) and Harsh Suresh (U-16 Open) won gold medals (Standard – category) in the Asian Youth Chess Championships 2023 held at Al Ain City of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

5.       OFFICIAL JERSEY, LOGO, AND MASCOT OF THE 6TH KIYG IN TAMIL NADU

        Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports(MoYAS) unveiled the official logo, jersey, and theme song of the 6th Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG 2024) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

        The mascot of 6th KIYG named “Veera Mangai” and the ceremonial torch named “Thamizh” were also unveiled during the event.

        The 6th KIYG is scheduled to be held in 4 cities of Tamil Nadu namely Chennai, Trichy, Madurai, and Coimbatore.

        Silambam, a form of Indian martial arts, has been included as a demo sport in the KIYG 2024.

 

6.       ROBERT M SOLOW, NOBEL-WINNING ECONOMIST PASSED AWAY

        American Economist Robert Merton Solow, who won the 1987 Nobel Prize in economics has passed away at the age of 99.

        In 1987, he won the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his contributions to the theory of economic growth.

 

7.       NATIONAL FARMER’S DAY OR KISAN DIWAS 2023- DECEMBER 23

        National Farmer’s Day, also known as Kisan Diwas, is annually observed across India on 23rd December to highlight the significance of farmers’ contribution to the overall social and economic development of India.

        The day also marks the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, a champion of the Indian farmers’ community, who served as the 5th Prime Minister(PM) of India from 1979 to 1980.

 

8.       KERALA EMERGES AS THE MOST PREFERRED STATE TO WORK: ISR 2024

        According to the 11th edition of the India skills Report (ISR) titled ‘India Skills Report 2024: Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Skills, Work, Mobility’, Kerala have emerged as the most preferred State to work for both male and female employable talent.

        In terms of large talent availability, States with the highest concentration of highly employable youth are Haryana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh (AP), Uttar Pradesh (UP), Kerala, and Telangana.

        Telangana has the highest concentration of employable talent in the age group of 18-21 with 85.45% followed by Kerala with 74.93%.

 

9.       FORBES’ WORLD’S HIGHEST-PAID FEMALE ATHLETES 2023:

        Polish Tennis Player Iga Swiątek has topped the Forbes’ annual list World’s Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2023, with a total earning of USD 23.9 million (on-field USD 9.9 million; off-field USD 14 million) in 2023.

        Indian Badminton player Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (PV Sindhu) is tied with American Gymnast Simone Biles in 16th position with a total earning of USD 7.1 million

        Sindhu is the only Indian and the only badminton player featured on the list.

        Chinese freestyle skier Eileen Gu (20 years) is ranked 2nd with USD 22.1 million

 

10.    FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP 2023

        The United Kingdom’s Manchester City Football Club (F.C.) won their maiden FIFA Club World Cup 2023 by defeating Fluminense F.C.(Brazil) in the finals held at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).

        Manchester City also became the first English team to win the FIFA Club World Cup at their first attempt.

        The Golden Ball was given to Rodri (Manchester City), while the Silver Ball and Bronze Ball were awarded to Kyle Walker (Manchester City) and Jhon Arias (Fluminense), respectively.

 

11.    NATIONAL CONSUMER RIGHTS DAY 2023- DECEMBER 24

        National Consumer Rights Day, also known as Bharatiya Grahak Diwas or National Consumer Day, is annually observed across India on 24 December to raise awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities.

        The day commemorates the enactment of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) of 1986, which received the assent of the President of India on 24 December 1986.

 

12.    GOOD GOVERNANCE DAY 2023 – DECEMBER 25

        Good Governance Day, also known as Sushasan Diwas in Hindi, is annually observed across India on 25th December to mark the birth anniversary of the former(10th) Prime Minister (PM) Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

        25th December 2023 marks the 10th Good Governance Day and 99th birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
